10/ Willie Williams, OLB, Louisville
#1 recruit for the Miami Hurricanes a few years back. he's a thug & got a restraining order put on him in the city of Miami. Redshirted his freshman season at Miami U. Played JUCO last season & will now play for Louisville.

9/ Kenny O'Neal, WR, Tennessee
Nationally Ranked Sprinter out of Skyline High School (Oakland, CA). Committed to Florida State but saw nothing but some special teams. Transfered to powerhouse City College of San Francisco & put up monster numbers. Will now look to fill the Void of Robert Meachem.

8/ Ako Poti, OT/G, Penn State
Not Nationally recruited out of High School. Played for City College of San Francisco allowing only one sack to Dexter Mangley, Jr.. First ever Penn State player to come out of the JUCO rankings.

7/Kyle Reed, QB, Cal
former EA sports "Elite 11" quarterback. many said he is Xavier Lee with a better arm & better mechanics. Not likely to start for Cal but should be right on Nate Longshore's tail.

6/ Dwight Lowery, CB, San Jose St
College All-American. came out of the JUCO ranks to lead the NCAA in interceptions last season

5/ Xavier Lee, QB, Florida State
he may be the best pure athlete in college since Micheal Vick & Adrian McPherson. Former FSU #1 recruit who fans are waiting for to over take Drew Weatherford.

4/ Ray Manamula (sp?), ILB, USC
was an absolute beast for USC in 2006 who many compare to Junior Seau. Hard nosed player & punishing hitter. Should be a first round pick.

3/ Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers
one of the best stories in college football last season. A heisman candidate who should be the first back selected in the 2008 NFL draft.

2/ Calius Campbell, DE, Miami (FL)
I've read about this guys comparisons to Mario Williams. former All-American basketball player who passed up an opportunity to play for Roy Williams at UNC & instead chose to play Defensive end for Miami.

1/ Devone Bess, WR, Hawaii
well see if he is legit or if he is jus a product of the run & shoot

I really hope Bess turns into something special. It would be nice if the 49ers could get a nice shot at possibly drafting him. Or Marcus Monk.

As a Rutgers fan, I'm glad to see the program starting to get respect but there's no way that Rice is the first RB to be taken IMO.

With Rice, he just doesn't have many qualities that make him stand out. He's not going to have a lights-out 40 time, he's not really a bruiser, he's not a great receiver nor is he particularly great in the measureables category. Plus, with the way Schiano is running things, I don't see many guys leaving early and if Rice doesn't....he'll have plenty of tread on his tires.

Its sounding at the moment like Lumpkin and Brown are going to get most of the action at RB for UGA this season, although if things go like they did last year, they wont keep Moreno on the bench for long.

How can we scout Willie Williams from the bench? He's in Kragthorpe's doghouse down at Louisville.

Bess is a very good wide out. he can catch any passes that comes his way. The only thing that he got to work on is Blocking because Hawaii dont do a lot of blocking

I love USC and could see Vidal Hazelton being a big threat in their passing game, but it's completely outta line putting him as Top 10 player to watch; I'm not even sure he is a Top 10 player on USC.

And also no Frank Okam ? This guy is an ATHLETE at 300+ lbs, kinda reminds of a shorter John Henderson (DT, Jax).

Could probably be a dominant DE for us in the 3-4, and fill many different spots on a defensive front.

Hazelton will be the number 2 receiver behind Turner and has far more upside.

My list also has a bunch of people nobody knows about yet and will be big time names come this fall in the college circuit.

But now that I think of it, Adarius Bowman should definitly be on my list.

Okam is the second best tackle on the Texas team behind Derek Lokey, who the team desperately missed after he broke his leg since he was used in short yardage situations by the offense as well.

Okam busted out onto the scene larger than life and has not taken that next step yet.

He reminds me of Marcus Tubbs in that aspect, so much talent, but not much progress from year to year.

I don't know what this thread is about. Is it the top 10 players we want the 49ers want or just the top 10 players period. I will go based on who I want on the team and based on need going into the year. Of course a lot of these could change if players step up.

1) Marlon Favorite DT, LSU: A junior coming into the year and will be a force to be reckon with and could be a legit nose tackle for the team if he comes out.

2) Glenn Dorsey DT/DE, LSU: He will be in the draft and again could anchor the defense at either nose tackle or defensive end. However I doubt we are able to land him.

3) Kenny Phillips S, Miami: This may be a stretch but if the safeties don't play up to potential Phillips could be a guy that could be a force on this team.

4) Adarius Bowman WR, OK ST: I like the guy a lot and I think he is poised for a big year and will definitely get a lot of attention.

5) Davone Bess WR, Hawaii: I like him a lot as well and could be a great get for us in the 20's. If he comes out which I expect he will, he will be a nice fit alongside Hill in the future.

6) Marcus Harrison DT, Arkansas: I probably should have put him at #2 as he is more of a possibility then Dorsey but again another monster nose tackle that could anchor the defense.

7) Early Doucet WR, LSU: Hasn't lived up to the potential yet but I think with a big year could be the best receiver available and just don't think we have a great shot at landing him.

8) Limas Sweed WR, Texas: Probably one of the best guys out there. Probably will go in the top ten but may drop because of his speed. I am hoping DeSean Jackson and Doucet tear it up so we can get a shot at landing Bess or Sweed.

9) DeSean Jackson WR, Cal: Many will ask why he is this far down but that is because I don't think we could land him. I like him the best of any receiver but just don't think he will fall to us.

10) Lawrence Jackson DE, USC: This is another key position for us as BY is soon to be leaving. I have not seen a lot of film on Jackson and the only reason I have him this low is because of that. I am not sure he fits the 3-4 as he seems like a speed rusher but he is a beast nonetheless.

Those are the guys that I am watching coming into the year as far as first rounders go for us. I think the two big positions of need are nose tackle and wide receiver coming into the year. Another possibility but I don't know who fits the 3-4 end position as BY will probably be gone soon. But if Franklin can step up and be a force or a wide receiver I think it could change quickly as things usually do.

The sad saga has come to an end. Given how bad Louisville's defense has been, I was really hoping that Willie could crack the lineup. :look:

I've been hearing that again this week with a healthy Lumpkin and Brown, as tenured leaders on the team, but c'mon. Moreno is the truth. C'mon!

1) Marlon Favorite DT, LSU: A junior coming into the year and will be a force to be reckon with and could be a legit nose tackle for the team if he comes out.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I'll keep my eye on this guy.

2) Glenn Dorsey DT/DE, LSU: He will be in the draft and again could anchor the defense at either nose tackle or defensive end. However I doubt we are able to land him.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Unfortunately, this guy seems Dallas/Arizona bound. He is a monster and I think he may be the BEST def. player available come draft day.

3) Kenny Phillips S, Miami: This may be a stretch but if the safeties don't play up to potential Phillips could be a guy that could be a force on this team.>>>

Is this guy the next Ed Reed or the Next Mike Rumph? A little hesitant about Miami 2ndary guys.

4) Adarius Bowman WR, OK ST: I like the guy a lot and I think he is poised for a big year and will definitely get a lot of attention.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I don't know a lot about this guy. He does have size, but is he Roy Williams or Charles Rodgers?

5) Davone Bess WR, Hawaii: I like him a lot as well and could be a great get for us in the 20's. If he comes out which I expect he will, he will be a nice fit alongside Hill in the future.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This guy does look good, but is he a product of the system? Can he block? I don't think he'll be a 1st or 2nd rounder. 3rd is a possibility.

6) Marcus Harrison DT, Arkansas: I probably should have put him at #2 as he is more of a possibility then Dorsey but again another monster nose tackle that could anchor the defense.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Don't know about this guy, but he does have size, but Michael Carter/Haloti Ngata/Vince Wilfork's are hard to find.

7) Early Doucet WR, LSU: Hasn't lived up to the potential yet but I think with a big year could be the best receiver available and just don't think we have a great shot at landing him.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I've heard about him, but have, yet to see him play.

8) Limas Sweed WR, Texas: Probably one of the best guys out there. Probably will go in the top ten but may drop because of his speed. I am hoping DeSean Jackson and Doucet tear it up so we can get a shot at landing Bess or Sweed.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This guy also has size, but can he block? Does he run good routes?

9) DeSean Jackson WR, Cal: Many will ask why he is this far down but that is because I don't think we could land him. I like him the best of any receiver but just don't think he will fall to us.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This guy has impressed me, but will his athletic ability translate to the NFL level? I think Ted Ginn, Jr.'s season may move him toward the backend of the 1st round or even into the 2nd round.

10) Lawrence Jackson DE, USC: This is another key position for us as BY is soon to be leaving. I have not seen a lot of film on Jackson and the only reason I have him this low is because of that. I am not sure he fits the 3-4 as he seems like a speed rusher but he is a beast nonetheless.>>>>>>>>>>>

This guy has size, but can he take up blocks and dominate the line of scrimmage? Is he best suited for our def. scheme?

Here's my top 10 based on need and fit for our team...This is by no means in order of where I rank the players.

1) James Laurinaitis ILB OSU - I've had the pleasure of watching James over the past year or so. I think he would complement Patrick Willis extremly well inside. James is excellent in pass coverage and would allow P-Dubs to be used more in blitz packages. Derek Smith is getting up there and having 2 strong in the middle of the field would make our def. even tougher to run on. IF he declares I don't know IF he'll fall to us, but u never know McNolan might trade up for him.

2) Tyson Jackson DE LSU - I know he plays next to that monster Dorsey, but LSU has produced some talented players over the last few years. Jackson has size and can step in IF BY retires after 2007.

3) DeSean Jackson WR/RS CAL - This guy is exciting at the college-level and we do need an electric return specialist, but can he be a Steve Smith-type WR or is he just another Desmond Howard?

4) Kenny Phillips S MIA/FLA - Is this guy in the mold of Ed Reed or another Mike Rumph in the making?

5) Phillip Wheeler ILB GT - This guy is a warrior, I've seen him play a few times. He has nice speed, blitzes well and can tackle. My only problem is I haven't seen him much in pass coverage.

6) Ian Johnson RB BSU - This guy is exciting to watch and would be great insurance in case something happens to Gore. I know we have Michael Robinson, Mo Hicks, and Thomas Clayton, but they don't seem to be anywhere near the level-player of Gore. Clayton has had off-field issues in the past and despite a STELLAR pre-season didn't make the roster. Mo Hicks is a good change of pace back, but I don't know IF he can carry the load should Gore suffer injury. Robinson hasn't been given enough of a chance, IMO, but he also didn't impress in the pre-season running with the 1st team O. Johnson is a guy built similarly to Gore who can take some of the load off of his back. The trend in today's NFL is to have 2 quality backs, Y should we run Frank into the ground?

7) Brian Cushing OLB USC - This guy has the size and can tackle, but can he rush the passer? Can he play OLB in a 3-4 scheme? TBC hasn't impressed thus far. Manny Lawson & Jay Moore are both injured. Haralson hasn't gotten a shot and Hannibal Navies is getting up there.

8) Chris Long DE UV - Long may be one of the best players suited for our Defense because Virginia plays a 3-4. He has experience and may be able to step in and take over for BY should he decide to retire. My only question is will he be available when we pick?

9) Frank Okam DE/DT Texas - THis guy has size and is known as a runstopper. In our DEF he would probably serve better as a DE because he can take up blocks with his size and might be dominant at the point of attack.

10) Adarius Bowman/Malcolm Kelly OKSU/OKU - These guys both have size and speed, but can they be GAMEbreakers at the NFL level? Can they run great routes? Can they block? Can they be that BIG TARGET that Alex needs in the REDZONE so that teams stop double-teaming VD?
