View Full Version : The proposed site in Santa Clara is a much better idea than SF.

The Santa Clara plan is much better than SF for all kinds of reasons. Even though it's going to be a longer drive for me, I'm all for it.
More space. Fewer parking hassles. Better weather. Great America next door. Hotels already there. Significantly cheaper cost as opposed to building in Hunter's Point, or anywhere in or near SF for that matter.
Luxury boxes filled with highbrow Dotcom execs. I know how it sounds, but it does take money to build stadiums after all. And this one is going to be magnificent. The best in all of Football.
Easier access, especially with BART connected to the stadium. They will probably finish the Fremont extension first, but a Peninsula route will eventually complete the loop. So, people who live in SF who are complaining about the stadium being further away will not have to drive.
And just look at the pictures of the proposed new stadium! The layout of Candlestick is all messed up. We all know it's true. There are not a whole lot of good seats at Candlestick relative to the size of the stadium, especially on the 49ers side of the field (where my seats are). The new stadium is designed like some European soccer stadiums I've visited. The spectator is the main focus of the design. Even the cheap seats will be 2x as good as they are now.
And finally, the best reason of all. Those of us here (most of us, I assume) who are current season ticket holders will be sitting pretty when that new stadium opens, especially those who already have gold tier seats. It's obvious just by looking at the concept photos. The overall look of the stadium may change some, but the seating arrangement will not.
If you don't already have season tickets, now would be a good time to get them. Once people actually start to see construction going on ticket orders are going to go through the roof. I will not be surprised in the least if it sells out completely with season ticket holders, especially if the team continues it's upward trend. I finally got my own season tickets just this year after 20 years of seeing games. I got tired of groveling my uncle for one of his, and with the new stadium coming I want to make sure I'm covered. I got LR 12 at the 15 yd line. They're ok seats, not great. Under the overhang. No major pole issues though. If you already have awesome seats by the time the new stadium is ready, you will still have awesome seats. Lots of us here who have less than awesome seats right now are really going to benefit from this new stadium. I can't wait!!!
Bill Walsh Memorial Stadium in Santa Clara, sponsored by (insert some Dotcom name). I don't care what they call it, but it had better have Bill's name in it somewhere. If Curly Lambeau can have a stadium named after him, so can Bill.

Did you pay someone $$$ to transfer the seats to you? You don realize that when a new stadium is buile, seats will most likely be awarded by senority. Senority starts when YOU became the STH, not the other person.
It could be that you won't have seats in the same location at the new stadium.

Good points although there are a hell of a lot more hoops the team must jump through before SC is a reality. It could easly fall apart just like the stadium mall and the team is back to square one. Like I said in another thread if San Francisco puts a vote on this years November ballot giving the go ahead to the Hunters Point reconstruction and clean up, it may get interesting.

How can you pay someone to transfer seats to you??? I didn't think that was possible. I got my tickets on Ticketmaster. They are in my name. I bailed on my uncle's seats for the very reason that you're mentioning. Those seats are not in MY name, and they never will be.

Of course not. Everything is going to get reshuffled and assigned by seniority. What I'm saying is that there are going to be a lot more good seats at the new stadium. I got in the gold tier right away, so I'm pretty sure I'm in line ahead of all of the people in the other tiers. Since I have decent seats right now, I expect to have significantly better seats in the new stadium.

I don't have much confidence in the voters. They already poo pooed on the idea once. They had their chance and I can't believe they let it slip through their fingers. The main problem with the Hunter's Point site, aside from the cleanup costs, is an extra 9 figure sum for a modified foundation. It will be much more expensive to build, and the other financial benefits of being located in the Silicon Valley will be hard to pass up. I think this stadium plan will be approved. The South Bay is about to have a HUGE cash cow dropped in their lap. I don't see them saying no.

So how did you become a Season Ticket Holder? How did you get LR 12 seats? Did you call and ask what the best location you could get for Season Tickets?

The following question and answer came from the www.supportourniners.com website:
I have season tickets at Monster Park. Will I have an opportunity to purchase comparable seats at the new stadium?
We will determine a fair seniority-based system to allow current season ticket holders at Monster Park the opportunity to select seats at the new stadium before seats are available to the general public.

Again, I got them on Ticketmaster about 2 weeks ago. I linked from the 49ers website, and at the time there were Gold, Silver, and Red tier seats available. I was amazed because gold tier seats are not easy to come by, and there's not much movement in that price range. There were seats in LR 12 and LE 25. I opted for LR 12 because the LE seats were in like row 45, or something like that.

Yes, of course this will be the case. I'm pretty sure that senority also goes by price tier though. Common sense dictates it. Someone who has been getting Silver tier seats for 15 years and decides to upgrade to Gold tier will have to go back to the end of the line. My seats in LR 12 will remain mine until I have a chance to upgrade. Over the next 5 seasons I don't expect to be able to upgrade my seats very much. Like I said, there isn't much movement in the Gold tier seats. When the new stadium is done though I expect to get much better seats.

Do not be so sure, as just two years ago all seat prices were the same. So someone in the endzone was paying the same amount as someone on the 50. The person in the endzone for 20 years may have tried to upgrade with no success. (I know I tried for four years to move my 6 seats to the 50 and ever year the 49ers said sorry full) People have just recently seen their ticket price go down and may have given up moving. I think those people should be allowed to upgrade before someone who has bought tickets in the last few years.
I think they should go soley by senority as many will not choose to pay the seat license and huge amount the 50 yard line seats will cost. The biggest demand will be for seats bordering the licensed seats. Those should go by seniority
You also have to think about numbers of seats. Should a person with 2 seats get to purchase 6 or more?

There's going to be a seat license? Bummer. When they tiered the prices I'm sure they went down the seniority list and gave everyone an opportunity to improve. I got a small # of tickets on Ticketmaster 2 weeks ago long after every other season ticket holder did their renewal. Apparently nobody else was interested. There was also a seat in LE 25 when I did my order. I checked back a few minutes later and it was gone.
Don't be so sure about the cost issues either. There are lots of rich people in the Bay Area who can burn ten grand and never miss it.
You also have to think about numbers of seats. Should a person with 2 seats get to purchase 6 or more?
Of course not. Season tickets are exchanged on a 1 for 1 basis only. As it is right now, if you want to increase your number of tickets you have to buy what's available and try to get them put together or piggy backed when you renew in the future. I guess the only thing that's safe to say is that those of us who already have season tickets will be taken care of when the mad rush of new orders start coming in. When construction on the stadium begins, people will get excited. Lots of people in the South Bay who don't already go to games will jump on for sure. If the new stadium only has 62K seats instead of close to 70K as it is right now, it's going to sell out before it's even finished. Even Arizona sold out that new stadium with season ticket holders. No worries though. A few 5-11 seasons will take care of that.

Senority is senority. If you are number one on the list and you want to move each year you can have your pick of the seats. The good thing is that the people with the most senroity stay put year after year. I think the big problem if and when we get a new stadium is the 49ers version of the psl. The psl will get ahead of senority by the way I have read things. Even if the psl's are in one section as everyone knows there are season tickets al over the Stick.

You got very lucky, especially if you got two together in the gold seats. Often one seat will open up but I never saw two or more together. Sometimes teams will hold VIP seats and relize they do not need them and release them far after tickets are bought and sold out. For example: I got tickets to a Warriors Mavs playoff game the day of in the lower bowl from ticketmaster at face value. The game had been sold out for a week.
Here is the link to some facts about SC.

The Santa Clara plan is much better than SF for all kinds of reasons. . . More space. Fewer parking hassles.
Are you sure about that? Those facts have not been officially analyzed. In sheer open space, the stick is MUCH bigger. Santa Clara is congested on almost all levels.
Those of us with current ST will certainly be in better shape than people trying to wait till the last minute to buy seats. I think it's going to be based on seniority solely. Just because you have great seats now on the 49er side of the field, doesn't mean you'll get that opportunity in the new stadium. The obscenely large luxury suite being proposed for new stadium will force most people off to the sides or to the visitor's side. Most of the senior holders also sit in that section, and they'll get first pick LONG before recent buyers. Don't hold your breath on keeping your good location. Then again, if they put a $5,000 per seat price tag on the Builder's Licenses, we may see many current holders drop out.

I think people who wait until the last minute are going to be SOL. As soon as people SEE this stadium being built 100% of the available tickets are going to be gone long before the stadium is even ready for use. This is part of the reason why I finally got my own season tickets in my name. When the team moves I want to make sure I'm taken care of.
I think it's going to be based on seniority solely. Just because you have great seats now on the 49er side of the field, doesn't mean you'll get that opportunity in the new stadium.
After further consideration I think you're right.
Then again, if they put a $5,000 per seat price tag on the Builder's Licenses, we may see many current holders drop out.
This is what's really going to dictate who gets what. Money buys access. That's the way it goes in a Capitalist society. And there are plenty of rich people in the Bay Area who can shrug off a 5 figure price tag for seats. From what I hear, Builder's Licenses are also going to be tiered. Plan on something like $2,500/$5,000. And demand is going to be high. A good chunk of the seats are going to be BSL's, so people who don't want to pay for them are going to have fewer choices to begin with. People on a budget, regardless of seniority, are going to be up top in the corners. The numbers may change a little, but the BSL's are going to happen.
I'm no millionaire, but I'll pay 10K for 2 seats. So will a bunch of other people. If I have lousy seats that are far away, I would rather just stay home and watch it on TV. It's worth it to me to pay $$$$ for good seats. What I'm hoping for is that most of the people willing to pay for a BSL will be newcomers, and I will be in line ahead of them. If good seats are important, I suggest that people start saving now, especially if you want 4 or 6.
You got very lucky, especially if you got two together in the gold seats. Often one seat will open up but I never saw two or more together.
I didn't get 2 seats together in LR 12. I got 2 singles that are kind of close together. In the coming years I will most likely be able to put them together, or at least piggy back them. It's impossible to get pairs together in the gold tier unless you're renewing. Again, I'm planning for the future.
