Since its never too early for draft prospect talk, who would you like to see the team target in next year's draft? :banana3:

It ain't gonna be possible, but my #1 choice is Glenn Dorsey.

Any defensive lineman will be my target of choice.

Peyton could go down... I'd want Dorsey as my #1 choice, I'd also LOVE to get DeSean Jackson.

Isn't he Howie Longs son. Isn't he the highest rated player in draft boards already?

I can't really decide, since there's about 40 guys I would love to get haha.

But to name a few....

Phillip Wheeler Georgia Tech LB (imagine him with Willis :)), Jonathan Goff LB Vandy (if no Wheeler), Kenny Phillips S Miami, DeSean Jackson WR Cal, Quentin Groves LB/DE Auburn, Keenan Burton WR Kentucky, Bruce Davis OLB/DE UCLA.

Only problem is most will go in the 1st or early 2nd round. :(

He's Howie's son, but I haven't seen him as the highest rated player on any boards. He's a top 5 DE, top 2 or 3 DE for the 3-4. Dorsey and McFadden seem to be getting the #1 spots everywhere I've looked.

You mean that the Colts made the playoffs...seeing as we traded our first in '08 to New England to pick Staley...

More likely DE, he's only 299 last time I knew.

I thought he gained weight over the summer? Maybe not.

Clearly EVERYONE wants Glen Dorsey, but that isn't going to happen. Seriously unless Manning gets hurt in the very first game Doresey will be taken about 20-24 picks before we are up. On the other hand you never know. Remember last year. Moses was the #1 ranked DE at the start of hte season, but not only was he outplayed by Adams, but wound up falling to the 3rd round. Carriker on the other hand was a nobody and jumped up to the high 1st round. So I guess you never know. It's hard to guess this stuff before the season even starts.

Overall though I think that we really need to address D-Line. It will be interesting to see what type of players step up during the season and establish a presense for themselves. I am hoping that there will be some good 3-4 DL.

The only other position I see us maybe (5% chance) drafting would be FS.

Carriker was hardly a nobody. And Moses was outplayed by his own teammate Charles Johnson as well haha.

My hope is that Kenny Phillips falls to us somehow since sometimes Safeties aren't exactly a high draft priority. Ed Reed went late in the 1st. But Sean Taylor and Roy Williams went top 10, so who knows. Luckily this should be a heavy draft in QB, RB, WR, OT, DE and even LB in the first round, so some good talent will fall to us.

anyone who will improve our mediocre d-line

Calais Campbell from Miami
he's 6-8 and about 260.... so I dunno if he could play DE in a 3-4 or not

but I also agree with Dorsey and Long

but a realistic pick at our spot (since we have IND's pick) would Tyson Jackson DE from LSU (6-5, 280)

^^^ I'll be watching all 4 of those players this season

Campell doesn't really fit the 3-4. He is more of a Tampa-2 defensive end where he can get to the quarterback. Much like Vernon Gholston. Jackson could work but haven't seen much of him.

nfldraftscout.com has him as the #1 DE too.

UVA plays a 3-4, so besides Dorsey, he may very well be the best senior 3-4 end prospect.

im thinking Tyson Jackson, Kendall Langford, Frank Okam if we go DLine

if we go safety then Kenny Phillips or Quinten Demps

and if we do go receiver then Bowman, Sweed, or Manninghamm

I like Dorsey, Okam and DeSean Jackson. Jackson is a ridiculous game breaker when he is on the field. Also would love a safety like Phillips and a true back-up RB. Another ILB at some point needs to be brought in.

OregonRob
08-28-2007, 08:33 AM
The DLine is probably where we should focus but I would like a run stuffing ILB as well. I realize that we just drafted an ILB and it's not likely we dip into that well again, but IMO... the need still remains. Moore is very good and should probably be starting over Smith, but neither fill the holes with authority or are especially good at taking on blockers and stopping inside runners in their tracks. We have two very good versatile sideline to sideline guys in Willis and Moore. And both can drop into coverage reasonably well. I'm not advocating that we should use a high pick on an ILB.... but I am interested to hear what everyone thinks about our LBs and how they fit in our 3-4.

DeSean Jackson.

Is a better return man than Ginn Jr. and could potentially become a Steve Smith type WR.

Hello..Coach Tressell?
Yes, speaking.
This is Scott McCloughan VP of player personnel for the SF 49ers. I was just wondering IF James Laurinaitis will enter the draft?
Definitely a player I'd hate to lose, but after 2 seasons as arguably the best LB in the nation it's more than likely he'll declare.
What can U tell me about him?
Well we don't call him "LITTLE ANIMAL" for nothin' and IF U pair him with that Willis kid u'll have the best pair of ILBs possibly ever.
That's all I needed to know, coach. Thank U for your time.

While it's always nice to see a former Warrior on the Niners' roster (Lelie, Ulbrich, Sopoaga), I'd much prefer Smith continue his improvement and turn into the franchise QB we've been lacking for so many years.

OregonRob
08-29-2007, 03:13 PM
actually, they have him as the number 1 senior, there's gonna be plenty of juniors entering this year...

and another name that should be thrown out there:
Andre Fluellen, Florida St., 6-4, 285, runs a 4.90

Good call.
Fluellen is a tough, athletic run stopper, who also has the quicks to get after the QB. He's a good fit at DE in the 3-4.

He's coming off a real downer year. We'll see if he has the motivation in his final collegiate season.

He looks like he can break the streak of the big but lazy Mich linemen. I was impressed with him every time I watched him. He's got a motor on him. Also, he's only a junior, so it'll be interesting to see how much he's bulked up since last year.
