The 49ers learned that during their 1994 Super Bowl season when a defense loaded with big-name free agents -- Deion Sanders, Ken Norton Jr., Rickey Jackson and Gary Plummer -- struggled early.

"Good defenses play together, just like good offenses," Nolan said. "And when you add new players, there's a clock that goes along with when you get there. It's not just show up and we're good. ... In training camp, when you have new players, they're all trying to show that 'Hey, I'm a good player,' and sometimes they get off the beaten path as far as playing as one. And we've done that a couple times.

"But we've gotten better through the preseason. Last week we had a few more lapses than we'd like. But the challenge is going to be playing together as one. And that will just get better through the season."

Relax guys, we will be fine. This aint Madden!

I remember that year. They did struggle on defense for awhile until they went on their monster winning streak all the way to the Super Bowl.

Tim Harris, Rickey Jackson, Bryant Young, Dana Stubblefield was our starting d-line. This d-line is nowhere near that. Add in Lee Woodall, Ken Norton and Gary Plummer and it is abundently clear that our front 7 then was light years better than our front 7 now.

Tim Harris? I thought Chris Doleman was on the DLine. Man the 94 team was unstoppable..

I remember I believe it was 94 agaist the bills K. Davis jump the pile trying to get into the endzone and I think it was Plummer Smacked his @ss and dude fumbled Woodall picked it up and ran it all the way to the house, anyone else remember that play. maybe the year is off

You can't compare these two defenses.

For one, the 93 defense wasn't nearly as bad as the 06 defense.

I remember that play well. It looked like we were going to loose the game, and then suddenly, we were ahead!

Not sure what you mean here. I guess as far as the progression between the the 2 years?

Exactly. There wasn't as far to go from '93 to '94, so bringing in some FAs was more like sealing up a drippy leak, rather than trying to build a dam like '06 to '07.

This ain't the 94 defense either (nor offense, for that matter).

nobody is saying it is, nolan is saying that it's resemblent to how the 94 defense was built. bringing in stars and how it took some time for the players to play as a team much like this 07 defense.

I was 2 in 81, just from what all the more seasoned fans claim I wish I could have enjoyed that team.

That doesnt make any sense, in madden all that matters is raw talent because team chemistry is non existant.

Besides we have some crazy fast linebackers which is awesome in madden, not quite as effective in real life. So again im not sure where you are going with the "relax its not madden."

I think Sanders was the key to that defense. I remember he didn't start playing until a few games into the season and the defense started clicking

Well, he didn't link to the article anywhere, but by the context I'd say the writer is making that comparison, not Nolan.

Nolan's quote just says it takes them awhile to learn to play together. But I think its the writer who then draws a parallel to the 1994 team, whose additions on defense were much bigger.

Primetime running down the sideline looking at Atlanta's bench while he pranced into the endzone after that pick was grrrrrrreat. Man, I wish every year was 1994!

I didn't have to work besides mow the grass, food was free, rent was free, electricity was free, the NINERS WON THE SUPERBOWL!

I think it was Doleman too. The play you are describing was the following year though and I think it was a Monday night game. I was actually lucky enough to have tickets in that end zone. I have never heard the Stick that loud before.

They started their turnaround @ Detroit. It was the game they had to comeback and win. Nate Singleton and William Floyd both scored. They won because I was there.:tease:
