I got the Big Ten Network and watched this entire game.
There's NO excuses AT ALL for this loss. They got outplayed. . Period.
People are gonna look at their defense and say "they had to replace 8-9 starters, they're inexperienced, etc.." blah blah blah.. Listen. This game is on the OFFENSE! You got all americans at every offensive level, a so-called Heisman candidate in Manningham who did NOTHING, Henne looked like a freshman, false start penalties on the o-line (must've been too loud.. o yeah, they were the home team.. :pards: )
Disgraceful..
Now people also need to give credit to Appalachian St. I was very impressed with their corners and their coverage on Michigan's receivers on the outside was pretty much flawless all day.. This team won 2 straight double A championships i believe, and is a lot better as a unit then people are gonna give them credit for..
However.... This is STILL a double A level team. And you're playin in "The Big House".. Unbelievable.

I've never heard any Michigan fans talk crap. Usually that is reserved for the Pac-10 and SEC fans, with Ohio State fans taking up second.
Michigan fans are pretty down to earth, they know they usually suck.
Now, if you mean LAST year they were talking crap, it was a bit well deserved. But I would have to admit everyone talks just about the SAME amount of crap. It doesn't matter what team you like, chances are you talk crap about another team.
Kinda like you are doing about Michigan right now.
And I'm a Purdue fan.

If it weren't for Hart, this game would have been a blowout. Michigan played very poorly and were fortunate to have even had the chance to win it at the end.

There's a few forums I used to post on frequently and the Michigan fans were some of the most annoying, arrogant fans you could ever encounter. There were some very down to earth ones as well, but they were drowned out by some of their more homer fans.

I live right on Ohio - Michigan border. It's so funny. People are either laughing their butts off(Buckeye fans) or hanging their head in shame(Wolverine fans). I watched that game and that team was faster and quicker than Michigan. They were not intimidated by the "Big House" at all. It was an awesome win for them and college football. It proves that on any given day...anybody can be beat.

Michigan deserves every piece of trash talk that gets thrown in their face. They played like crap and lost to a much much lesser team. They deserve to have their noses rubbed in it.
Now with that being said, I know that next week they are going to take it out on my Oregon Ducks.

I don't know, after losing to Appalachian St. there's no telling how Michigan will come back from that. The whole team could be down during practice all week resulting in a lackluster performance vs the Ducks.

The Ducks aren't intimidated by them, especially since we beat them last time we played them when they were ranked 3rd in the Nation! But I'm still concerned about Michigan just swallowing their pride, and trying to grind out a win with Mike Hart getting 50 carries since Houston was able to run all day against the Duck defense.

You were comparing Barry Sanders (as a pro with the Lions) to Hart (as a collegiate player with Michigan)
Hart is eating up lots of yards on the ground, but isn't breaking lose and scoring. Though he's moving the ball, he ultimately isn't winning the game for Michigan.
The Lions reached the playoffs 6 times led by Sanders. He got them there almost single-handedly.
Vick, though an exciting player who ate up lots of yards on the ground, didn't win games for the Falcons.
Get it?

good players, the HC is the real joke. and the fact that he's kept a job this long is the punchline.
Nope those players are overrated. Can u honestly tell me a CB who doesnt know how to play man coverage is the coach's fault? or an Oline who cant block for **** on the Right side? the players are just no good.

putting players in the best position to win is the coach responsibility. Michigan has the talent. the fact that they never make adjustments is the coaches fault.
coaching in college football trumphs everything else. a good college coach makes all the difference, moreso then a ton of talent.
actually Ron English is an excellent DC
Agreed Carr sucks. Although I would argue that many of their players other then Mike Hart are overrated at this point. The problem is that Carr sucks at coaching, and that they haven't been developed and found the potential that they have. Most of Michigan's players are horrible underachievers. They always have great recruiting classes yet they underachieve like crazy.
Hobbes2d
09-08-2007, 03:55 PM
Carr is a great recruiter but terrible coach. and good/bad coaching in college football is very obvious because it makes all the difference. Michigan players seem to never be in the right place. that shows me bad coaching, gameplanning, and adjustments by the coaches.
Its great because I dislike Michigan a lot and this has been very fun to witness. PLUS, I doubt they really have anybody who will want to step in to save that program. All of the best up and coming or highly regarded coaches are already set for life at their perspective programs due to the success they have already achieved. :whip:
They'll likely have to take a chance on a highly regarded, but unproven coordinator like Ron English (but with the way his defense has played, he might be fired too) or find someone who is retired or go for an NFL coach or ex NFL coach...

I wouldn't expect him to go that high. He is reliable, but not particularly explosive, and he'll likely be up against McFadden, Slaton, Rice, etc. Being a senior who gets lots of carries each year will also hurt his value as it means there is less tread on his tires.
I'd expect him to be late 1st at the earliest.
