Not every name, of course, but some interesting names.
(and NO, not as in a "lets sign him" kind of way).

http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d801fb8e1&template=with-video&confirm=true

Former 49ers punter Chad Stanley was released by the Texans

The Rams released J.D. Washington, the son of actor Denzel Washington.

also:

CINCINNATI -- No. 2 quarterback Doug Johnson was released Saturday by the Cincinnati Bengals, who replaced him by getting Ryan Fitzpatrick from the St. Louis Rams for a conditional draft pick.

And from the Jets:
defensive tackle Kimo von Oehloffen will be released by Jets. von Oehloffen, who started all 16 games for the Jets in 2006...

Bengals released Ed Hartwell. Must not be fully recovered from his injury.

Will Demps doesn't get a second chance in NY. Instead they keep Dahl who hasn't looked good in preseason.

Bengals also released Reggie McNeal and Bennie Brazell. I'm sure they are looking at the PS for Brazell, not sure if McNeal qualifies.

Otis Amey got cut by the Falcons, didn't even know he was in their camp.

the Steelers traded a 2008 conditional draft pick to the Atlanta Falcons for return specialist/cornerback Allen Rossum. Rossum, a 2005 Pro Bowl selection as a special teams returner, holds the Falcons record for career punt return yards (1,723), career kickoff return yards (5,489) and career punt returns for touchdowns (2)

The Giants had one of the worst secondaries in the league last year and alot of that had to do with Sam Madison and Will Demps. Both were terrible last year.

Well I know they had a pretty bad secondary. But wasn't Madison like the only bright spot? He sucked on bombs, but he was pretty good on medium to short passes. Or so I read in an ESPN article. Webster and Dockery were apparently awful.

From the Giants games I saw, which was a good amount of them, Madison was badddddd.

I think he had an ankle injury throughout most of the year but when he was in he was playing way and off he looked slow. Maybe it was the ankle, but he was not good at all.

He made a couple of goalline plays but at this stage in his career, with his ability to read plays and made breaks, you'd almost expect it but he was very good inside the 5.

Quentan Moses
ryan mcbean
Nick roach
Buster Davis

All rookies with some up side, Mcbean is a great 3-4 end type and didn't make it in Pittsburg because they are trying to go 4-3 in the future.

Buster Davis with some time could be the other inside linebacker

Nick roach was all over the place but had some potential

Quentan Moses is kind of sad last year was a projected first round pick and can't even make a roster

Kr/Pr Az zahir Hakim, could be an upgrade.

But that could also have been due to the old D Coordinator who had no idea how to use his personal. Madison should have pressed more, but Tim Lewis always had him playing off.

As for Demps, he was terrible. I live in upstate NY so i watch all the Giants games and you have no idea how badly i wanted them to pick up Chris Hope(i also wanted the Niners to try to get him). I also wanted them to address the secondary concerns in this offseason, but all they got bascially A. Ross. Who i consider a wasted pick, in the same mold as S. Moss was last year.

It seems to me that lotz of teams drafted BPA without regard to their particular scheme... That's why there are a lot of draftee's that got cut this year.. it seems there is quite a bit of talent available on the waiver wire, that would be an upgrade to what we have now.

Or teams are getting to wrapped up in a players 40 time and bench press and not if they can actually play football.

Santana Moss........

This preseason, hes looked exactly like a scared little girl. He wont go over the middle and whenever he sees a defender you can see the shear panic going through his body. He hasnt even stood out or caught many passes against 2nd and 3rd stringers. The only thing hes done is run the reverse and he hasnt even been very successful at that.

Too early to call him a bust but I was happy we didnt use our 2nd rounder on him like a lot of people were calling for. One dimensional speedsters bother me, too inconsistent.

Mac9er
09-02-2007, 11:25 AM
I could see:

Moses, as a backup OLB, over Haralson. Move Haralson inside.

McBean, as a backup DE.

D. Hunter, as a backup FS, the Cards played him at corner, I think with his speed, size and hitting, he would be much better at FS.

I'm sure there is a better PR/KR/WR than B. Williams out there, although Williams doesn't return kicks, I'm sure there is someone out there who does both.

what's wrong with Haralson? he's been a monster this preseason and right now might be the 49ers best pass rusher.

Mac9er
09-02-2007, 11:51 AM
I don't think, he will be as good outside, as he would be inside. An OLB in the 3-4 has to be able to cover a TE and rush the passer from both sides of the line left or right. Otherwise, it eliminates the some of the element of surprise when blitzing LB's...

the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday signed veteran lineman Kimo von Oelhoffen to a one-year contract.

The deal came just one day after von Oelhoffen was released by the New York Jets
