I know they are planning on closing it. I'm not saying that this idea is head and shoulders above the others. Frankly, I think the neighbors would pitch a fit since that area is largely residential. I'm just wondering what other people think about using that space. I used to live in Foster City, so I'm familiar with the area and I think it might have some viability. 101, 92, 84, and 280 could all be used for access. I could see 101 getting mobbed though. Thoughts.

Interesting that the exact same sites are being mentioned now that were being mentioned when Eddie D. tried to build a stadium. Bay meadows and Moffett were both brought up. Another possibility then could have been the NE side of 101 and 92 interesection, where the old fashion island mall used to be. But now that has been redeveloped into what is called Bridgepointe mall (I think). Pity, as that would have been a good site - close to 101 and 92, Amatrack and maybe BART could have been extended that far also. Plus it is not nearly as far as Santa Clara for the North Bay fans.
It does get quite windy out there though in the evenings. Well, another opportunity lost in the saga that is the 49ers stadium :-(.

That whole area around Fashion Island is reclaimed land, and so is all of Foster City. It's a nice area for a stadium. Too close to the water though. It would probably sink during a 7.0 earthquake.

fashion island?? i haven't heard that name in years. remember that old ice rink? i played broom ball there once (kind of like hockey but no skates) they also had that food court with places like sbarro pizza, 1 potato 2, and my favorite grandma's buffalo chips. kind of your typical suburban mall with snotty kids like me and the buds i used to hang around with.

Oh yeah, I used to live right across the 92 from Fashion Island in the latter part of the 1980's. The only difference between that mall and the others is that we could ride our skateboards through the mall itself, along the main drag, and there wouldn't be anyone to stop us. Nor would we have to worry about running into anyone because there was never anyone there. Especially on weekdays. The busiest place in the mall was the arcade.
