View Full Version : Is Tom Brady still a game manager?

People like to point out that Brady is just a glorified game manager, especially when comparing him to Montana.

But given how he is playing, should the game manager label still be on him? Or is threatening to break Manning's TD record enough to get the label off of him?

If he continues this pace for the rest of the year and wins another super bowl, he would be making a VERY strong case for G.O.A.T. Yes I said it. The kid is good and he is a winner. I am a die hard Niner fan and would NEVER put anybody above Montana. All I am saying is, he is making a case for himself to be talked about amogst the ELITE.

The issue is, during his 1st SB win, he was just a game manager.
No amount of growth can change history.

However, as you've pointed out, he is no longer a game manager.

At this rate, as long as he isn't inured, Brady is going to be blowing out records left and right.

if the Pats don't start running more Brady is going to get hurt. they are turning into a shotgun version of the Iggles.

true story.

Bellicheat has it plug in play. They could probably put Cassel in and not see that much of a difference.

Except Brady isn't getting sacked, and their plays go for 40 yards instead of the 5-8 the Eagles usually get.

Up until this year, he has certainly been referred to as a game manager. I didn't really agree with it myself but have certainly heard and read it.

Thats what I was thinking.

He worked well with what he had, mediocre talent. He made alot of guys look better than what they were.

I wouldnt call him a "game manager" but I would say he had to take his game down some to adjust to what he had to deal with.

Brady got sacked 3x last game. and who knows, it might continue. lineman usually take more punishment when pass blocking more then run blocking because they have to absorb so much. that line might take a beating and in return, Brady will follow.

the Iggles reference, i think you get my point. all pass and no run.

I see what you mean but McNabb doesn't have the weapons Brady has and is vastly inferior. And sure, both teams are looking like passing teams, but the Eagle dink and dunk and Brady just gets TD's.

I do think that the Pats will run more when they get Maroney back but until someone shows that they can stop them, I don't see them deviating too much from their gameplan.

Well, I can't really argue against any of those points. :hoppy:

Tom Brady is a douche bag. :thankyou:but he is a hell lot better douche bag than Peyton Manning!

but in all seriousness, BRADY is both a good manager and a savvy QB. Probably, 2nd to Montana. (at this point though MONTANA is still the savviest of all time)

He was a game manager early in his career but he's morphed into a perfect QB who's going to go down in history as one of the best to ever play.

No it's not, it contains McNabb's vomit from him getting tired.

By the end of his career, I might just have to put Brady above Montana. Maybe. They're virtually the same player to me...except one is slower when they try to run.

Tom is doing all this without a running game. He is the shizt!!! No matter what WR you put out there.... he makes them heroes. He will make a nobody WR into a big name contract guy aLa Welker, Brown, dude who went to the seachickns.... and more. Now he has MOss and Dante ...

Man... you can take Moss out of the picture and he will still be slinging shots to the next WR Diva... F it.. Brake makes WR Divas in his house!

5 TDs passes BEFORE 1/2 time in Miami.

And a few of them were some long bomb throws.

And sets a new record for 1st QB to have back to back 5 TD games.

Jeezz.............

That's true..
What is it now.. 26.. 27 tds?
And 2 ints..

If he gets 1 more SB he ties Montana for SBs.
He's still rather young..
This guy could very well own every meaningful record as a Qb.
And as much as it hurts to say.. He could take Montana's seat as the GOAT.

I can't believe the Pats haven't pulled Brady yet.

It's 42-7, and Brady is still throwing deep passses (per http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter?season=2007&week=REG7&game_id=29288)

Hilarious how Cassel got pulled for Brady again, only for Brady to throw another TD. I think Brady could've thrown for 8 TD's today if they really tried, the Patriots are so ridiculous this year.

I wish I were Cassel. Sit behind maybe the best QB of all time, and if you go in and throw a pick 6 (which I could probably do), you just get pulled for Tom again like no big deal.

Yup. It's pretty sick.

As of right now Brady has 27 TD passes.

In the past two years, only two QBs had more than 27 TDs passes per season
(Palmer and Peyton both times), an in both of those two season, 28 TDs was good enough for 2nd place.

What's funny about this is that the great Joe Montana has only thrown more than 27 TD's in a season twice with 28 and 31.

I just don't see how people can live in denial and think that Joe is better than Brady. But hey, I guess Joe just didn't have good receivers right?

You have a very solid point.

But I rarely think it's fair to compare QBs of different eras.

The NFL rule book has changed so much. Defensive players are allowed to do so much less than they used; and overall, passing yards are going way up across the NFL. You can counter this with Joe never had to worry about the salary cap, but that just adds to the point of different eras.

At this pace, he will obliterate it.

Although I would have to think at some point the Pats will try to tone it down to prevent Brady from getting injured.

I'm some how thinking all the reports of being cheaters has really motivated Brady and the rest of the Pats to just play full out every down and wipe teams off the map to prove they can do it with or without "help."
