View Full Version : Why we will take AJ

Coach Nolan is a defensive minded coach. I have not heard him express dissatisfaction with Eric Johnson, injuries happen. However if we allow for AJ to slip through we may not be able to fill that void with a talent nowhere near his. There are a number of ok TE in this draft that will give us depth at that position, assuming EJ is back.

AJ Hawk
Tye Hill
Daniel Bullock

of course nolan is not going to give out who he wants...but rest assured, if Davis is on the board still, we will take him =)

If Hawk is there I think we take him.....But I dont think he will be there.

I just remember Nolan saying that he needs to surround Alex Smith with weapons......Weapons=Vernon Davis

I won't mind AJ is VD isn't there. Being able to get both Hawk and Lawson in the first round would make our linebacking corp outstading.:homer:

It'll be a tough choice between Hawk and Davis. I'll be happy with either player.

as much as i like vernon i think we should take hawk is his there because we need defense than can stop our westcoast rivals and hey ej might come full healthy this year and we have a young reciever core so we should be ok on offense,,imagine we have either williams and lawson,or hawk and wimbley i think either those dou defense would improve the niners defense..even if we pick cb in the 22

I dunno I like VD's game film... the 49ers need a receiver that won't go down on the first hit. I can see it being 3rd and 10 and VD gets the ball and gets hit 5 yards from the first down but still fights for it and the first down. We need a player like that!!!

I think the reason we traded up, is so we could be assured of one of the elite linebackers and it wouldn't be a mistake to take vernon at 6, but I agree if vernon is gone aj would be the pick unless mario is somehow there.

i agree- Vernon davis @ #6 :headbang: - Bobby Carpenter-OLB, Ohio State @ #22 :headbang:

I'd rather have an offensive and defensive player taken in the first round. We need help on both sides of the ball.

Yeah i think we would be making a mistake if VD was available and we passed him up w/ our first pick. That said if he is gone, then i am not sure we shouldn't trade down and pick up several defensive players in round 1 and add an extra round 2 or 3 pick.

I would love to get Hawk or Huff, but I also want to get as much talent around Smith so he can get some confidence and progress. If we dont get Davis though, I would like to trade down a few spots and get Huff.

I Read that AJ said in 4-3 OLB would be fine, but in a 3-4 he would rather play ILB, that would not bode well

We would have to go with Hawk at 6 because he is the safest pick and a position that we need more than just one guy at. I would love to get a LB and DB in the first two picks.

Alright, here is why we don't need to take AJ Hawk. First of all you guys are saying how we can get manny lawson and hawk in the first round that is a terrible idea. We have numerous holes, unless i was watching a different 49er team we need offensive to help alex smith. There is no other offensive playmaker in the draft besides reggie bush than vernon davis. Due to this fact we have to take VD if he is there, which he should be and pick up lawson or another defensive player with the 22nd because there is more depth at defensive than offensive. I mean if we take hawk who out there can help alex smith, I don't think Chad "i cant catch a ball" Jackson can help us. I also heard on a draft site that they expected the niners trading for the saints number 2 pick to take mario williams what do you think about that???

For some reason, I don't see Hawk rising to the same superstar level he was at in college. Maybe it's because I watched him get tossed around vs ND, he had tons of trouble shedding blockers and was really only effective when in pursuit. Don't get me wrong, he's got great speed and great football instincts, but if he gets man handled by college FBs and TEs, what will happen in the NFL?

Maybe a move to SS would be best, sort of like Archuleta. He does have 4.45 speed or so right?

4.59 I believe. But i doubt he has the coverage ability to move to a SS, but I may be wrong.

Our need at offense is as necessary as our need at defense with the TE position we have a solid starter now as long as he is healthy. The depth in the draft is deeper at the te spot than the olb mlb position. we can still possibly get mercedes lewis at 22 if we get aj. if we pick vd what value at olb mlb will be available that late. I dont want you to think im underestimating vds talent but i want tha most bang for our buck

OLB is as deep if not more deep than TE in this years draft class. Lewis would be a horrible 1st rounder 3rd round is where he goes. if we do take VD an OLB or DB at #22 and in the 3rd a FS and the BPA at TE in the the 4th
