View Full Version : What is the situation with a new stadium for the Niners in San Francisco?

From a Niner fan that doesn't live in the Bay Area, what are the possibilities of the team moving, even to Santa Clara? When I think of the Niners I associate them with the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco as much as I do with Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Steve Young, Ronnie Lott, Bill Walsh, being 5-0 in the Super Bowl etc... Is it truly a possibility that one of footballs all-time great franchises could change cities? That would be like the Steelers leaving leaving Pittsburg, or the Cowboys leaving Dallas.

I guess what I'm getting at is if the team did move to Santa Clara, would we still be called the San Francisco 49ers, or the Santa Clara 49ers.

I know that it says we'd still be called the SF 49ers, but what ever happened to that ridiculous law that Diane Feinstein was trying to pass to prevent them from using San Fran in the name? Did that fall through?

It was all pretty empty.. anything at the federal level (Feinstein) would be laughed out of committee. Anything attempted at the state level (Midgen) would be very unlikely to make it through the legislature, and even if it did, it would be swiftly veto'd by Ahhnold.
