Down by 3, 4 minutes left, opposing 23 yard line, iffy catch (the receiver caught it WITH HIS KNEES) to make it 4th and 1/2 a yard.

He calls a timeout. 2 left

Then he challenges the (correct) spot. 1 timeout left

THEN HE GOES FOR THE FIRST. And the chiefs never touch the ball again.

So basically, he handed the ball to the other team while simultaneously giving up the timeouts he needed to get it back. Epic.

There was no question that that was a catch.

I didn't see it, but since when has Herm Edwards been known for making good decisions in tight spots?

They'd been running the ball well for most of the game, so the decision to go for it on 4th and 1, i can't blame him that much.. The decision to challenge the catch was really the biggest blunder imo. Losing 2 timeouts over that 1 play is just crazy.. But I can't get on his case for goin for it on 4th and 1.. they've had success all day and he took a gamble..

Before he blew timeouts it was a defensible though aggressive decision. Defensible because you can get the ball back.

But realize that how you move the ball on regular downs has very little to do with how successful you'll be on a short yardage attempt, when the personnel are all anti run and gunning for the stuff.

Again, the issue isn't going for it. It is going for it after burning the time outs. That's like having 1:20 less clock to work with when an easy FG would tie.

It certainly wasn't incomplete, but it was in the guys' knees (not his hands), so if the refs don't think that's possesion, then he hasn't completed the catch. And then the defender pulls it away. I would have been at least a little worried about it being called an interception.

I know, but this was epic even for him.

That's all true, but you still have to show the confidence in your football team and O-line that you can get 1 yard when you need one.

Personally, I've always thought Herm Edwards was a terrible coach.
