I think a bunch of teams did but quite frankly I think LSU didn't deserve to play in that game at all. Ohio State was an ovious choice but LSU I think can go fork themselves. They pretty much just got the bid because they won the so covetted SEC & because Les Miles went on to whine about how nobody could beat them in regulation. When you lose by 1 or you win on the last play the same thing goes thru your mind. wow, what was close. Close shouldn't cut it for LSU. How are they better then USC? if you wanna play the "but card" But USC didn't get beat when they were at full strength. But Kansas lost 1 less game then them. But West Virginia doesn't have a conference championship game after their heartbreaking loss that drops them from the top in the last game of the season. But Hawai'i hasn't lost to anybody. But their strength of schedule sucks. But they play in the whack WAC. so what?! But Virginia Tech didn't lose to anybody that wasn't ranked in the top 5 at least at the time being.
I think the most deserving team was clearly Ohio State.
the #2 team should be Hawaii. what fault do they have that they play in the WAC? Nobody has beat them. Last year Boise State left a lot of people thinking "oh ****!" Alex Smith won a bowl game with a non BCS school. Boise State beat Oklahoma. Hawaii definately in my opinion is the most Screwed team.

I personally would rank Hawaii #1. Everybody wants to say they couldn't and wouldn't be undefeated if they had a tougher schedule. Well how do you know that. You are assuming that and not making a factual argument. The simple fact that they have won every one of their games is a statement of FACT not opinion. Another team that got royally jobbed is Oklahoma. They just beat the #1 team in the nation and didn't even move up in the ranking. Instead the #7 team jumps to #2 and is playing in the title game,:nonono:

Will poeple be left thinking, well maybe they should have been given a shot? Just look at Boise State lsat year. They beat Oklahoma who should have destroyed that team that was a fluke. This is football and any team can win if they are iven a shot at doing so. For me no team got screwed this year. Teams that had 2 losses didn't get screwed, they messed up twice this season. I know it isn't perfect but this season allowed for so many teams to have the opportunity to play for the title.
These ten are the ten that I feel are playing the best:
1) USC
2) Oklahoma
3) Georgia
4) Virginia Tech
5) LSU
6) OSU
7) Florida
8) Arizona State
9) Tennessee
10) Missouri
As far as who is the most deserving:
1) OSU
2) LSU
3) Georgia
4) Virginia Tech
5) Oklahoma
6) USC
7) Missouri
8) Florida
9) West Virginia
10) Arizona State
That is the main problem with the BCS. I think it does a good job at looking at an overall season and picking out who did the best. I mean USC lost to Stanford, that is an embarrassing loss anyway you cut it. You put LSU's losses against Georgia or Virginia Tech and they are better so to speak.
However, how well the teams are playing right now isn't a factor as it is. That is what a 4-6 team playoff would allow you to do. Looking back in previous years, there are usually at most 4 teams that are elite status. Maybe College Football is changing and it is really turning to be like College Basketball. Until I see otherwise I take this year as just a fluke.

Actually, LSU just lost to an unranked Arkansas team. As far as a fluke, last year was the same thing. Boise State knocked off Oklahoma and finished the year undefeated. They deserved a shot at the title. The only thing the BCS caters to is MONEY.

Yeah an unranked team with the best player in the country in McFadden and also with a very different style of offense. I don't think Stanford has anyone close to the talent level as McFadden.
I am not an LSU fan but they lost both of their games in 3OT. Not saying they are playing the best, but comparing their losses to others, I think the BCS got it right.

A team can only play who they have on their schedule.
And retards can only play in the special Olympics. Whats your point?
This entire system is based on how much money each game will make, PERIOD! Hawaii deserves to get a shot. What if they destroy Georgia?
It's also, or so I thought, about giving us the best game possible. Hawaii played a crap schedule, struggled against a bottom feeder Pac 10 team, a 4-9 Washington (a team Arizona State destroyed 44-20). Florida, a team that isnt even playing in a BCS game, would run over Hawaii like the joke that they are.
Pen this in right now. Hawaii is going to get destroyed by Georgia.
Just look at Boise State lsat year. They beat Oklahoma who should have destroyed that team that was a fluke.
Yea, that was an Oklahoma team that got beat by Oregon last year too... That team had so many problems, they were dying for someone to uncap the tub of butter and batter them up.
Besides, would you rather see a "what if" game rather than something that should be a sure fire good game?
This is football and any team can win if they are iven a shot at doing so.
So lets let Rice play for the title, k?
The simple fact that a 2 loss team is playing for the title and an undefeated team is not, is all you need to know about how flawed the system is. BULL CRAP SYSTEM!
That 2-loss team could play its second string with me as its coach and still dismember Hawaii.
Don't forget Illinois in that group as well.
Excellent call. Illinois was another crapper of a team. How these coaches voted for Kansas and Mizzou to be in the top 3 of the nation makes me wonder how smart these people actually are...

Just your opinion. You have no way of knowing which team will do what until they play. You are acting like this is Appalachean St. (sp?) vs. Michigan, oh wait, Michigan the #5 team in the nation lost that game, my bad.

Again the strength of schedule does not mean anything to me. Going out onto the football field and performing is what matters. I support Hawaii becasue I want to see what they can do against the "big boys" of college football. Of course these so called "big boys" have to give them a shot which has not been the case. Everybody wants to bag on their strength of schedule but have you seen some of the teams that OSU and LSU beat up on? Come on now.

I was mainly talking about the non conference games these big teams decide to play. I am all for great games to watch. I just like watching a possible cinderella team get a chance. They do not have that in college football and it irritates me watching the same teams over and over again (of course unless they actually do deserve to be there). Like I said earlier, I still don't understand how LSU jumped over so many teams when they barely beat the #14 team in the nation. Oklahoma should be there over LSU and I haven't even touched on Ohio State.

Well, the first reason LSU gets to #2 instead of OU is because they were ahead in the rankings before each team won it's conference. Yes, VT, Kansas and Georgia were ahead of LSU already, but Georgia and Kansas didn't win their conference and VT lost to LSU by 41 points.
Also, I'm sure OU's 80th, I believe, ranked strength of schedule had to play a part in this as well.

I had thought that Oklahoma was ranked higher for some reason. Either way, LSU almost lost their title game while OU destroyed the #1 team in the nation. Don't get me wrong, LSU is a very good team but there are teams with the same record that are playing WAY better football right now IMHO.

OU played the #1 team on paper, but I think we all know they weren't really the #1 team in the country. If they really were, they wouldn't have been underdogs going into the game.
And yeah, teams like Georgia and USC could definitely make a case that they're playing better ball than LSU, but we're never going to find these types of things out until we get rid of the current system and implement a playoff system. This is the only sport where the two teams playing in the title game are there based on opinion.

The BCS is totally screwed up.
LSU is not the best team in the league, IMO, however they won probably the toughest conference. A 2 loss in the SEC is >> then a 1 loss Big 10 team. I would take a 2 loss Pac 10 Champ or Big 12 Champ over a 1 loss Big 10 as well.
OSU is a good team, but their one loss record in a weak conference is nothing to crow about.
Out of the 6 BCS winners, the top four are:
1. USC - Best D in the nation and would beat the other three now that they are healthy again. They were ranked #1 at the start of the season for a reason. Most of their tough games were on the road this year.
2. LSU - Won the SEC, but most of their tough games were at home.
3. OKL - Both of their losses were on the road. Looked great against Missouri.
4. OSU - Tough D, and OL, but their passing game doesn't scare anyone. Plus they haven't played enough prime time, major league games this year. Best team they played is Illinois at home, and they lost.
Thats my ranking, but you could make an argument for any of the four to be the best. They should have a least a top 4 BCS conference championship series. Keep the bowls for the first round, and have one more game at the end to crown the new champs!
I wonder what happens if OSU finds a way to barely beat LSU (on turnovers) and USC crushes Illiniois. Would there be a split NC?

As long as BCS schools back out of contracts to play non-BCS schools proving themselves to be pansies who are afraid to play teams like Hawai'i, Boise State and Fresno State on a home-and-home basis there will be arguments about the strength of schedule for schools like Hawai'i this year.
Do they belong in the championship game? Who can say? They were undefeated and that was enough to give BYU the title in 1984 on the strength of Robbie Bosco's arm and a schedule with ZERO ranked opponents and a win over a 6-5 Michigan team that was 6th in the Big 10 in the Holiday Bowl.
Over the last few years I know several teams, Louisville, Washington State, Michigan State, and Kansas that have backed out of games with Fresno State. Stanford flat refuses to even consider playing Fresno State. Notre Dame wouldn't agree to a schedule with 2 games in South Bend and 1 at neutral San Francisco against Fresno State. Arizona and Arizona State won't play Fresno State.
Hawai'i lost a big BCS game this season from a team that was contracted to go to the islands and backed out this past spring.
How are the non-BCS schools supposed to get ranking respect when the BCS won't play them?
There needs to be a playoff system. Nothing else will ever be remotely fair.
blueprint
12-03-2007, 07:21 PM
i think a playoff system involving the 4 major bowl games (sugar, rose, orange and fiesta) should be implemented. #1 ranked team hosts the Orange/Fiesta bowl winner. #2 ranked team hosts the Sugar/Rose bowl winner. For example.
Sugar bowl winner vs. Rose Bowl winner.
Orange bowl winner vs. Fiesta bowl winner.
#1 ranked team gets a 2 week bye.
#2 ranked team gets a 2 week bye.
It would be unfair to have the bowl contenders play 2 extra games before facing the #1 or #2 ranked team but this has been proposed and i like it.
There can also be a 10 team playoff with 2 top teams getting a bye and awaiting the winners of the other

You really want to know who got screwed this year? We did. Us fans got a large cheese grater bj from the polls all year long, and now were paying for it. Every BCS game is going to be very one sided aside from the national championship, which means the 2007 season was a complete waste. Tell me, who here is actually excited to go watch Illinois, Hawaii, Kansas and a Pat Whiteless WV get blown out?
blueprint

i really think the Rose Bowl will be a blow out... USC defense just too much for Illinois. The kansas/va tech game doesnt appeal me but i'll have to give Va Tech the win. Oklahoma will absolutely destroy W. VA without Pat White and even with him i dont think they stand a chance.

Blueprint, 9am ET is far too early to be hitting the sauce. Barely squeaking by a 4-9 Washington team is no where near playing a dominating Georgia. It's going to be a massacre. Even my beloved Sun Devils, sitting at 10-2 from a real conf would have gone in and got man-handled.
