What's the worst bowl game for you guys?? Im gonna have to go with the Rose Bowl with the Fiesta bowl at a close second. USC is gonna blow Illinois out by atleast 2 TD's and Oklahoma is going to seriously pound WVU with or without Pat White.

Probably the Sugar Bowl, I wish that 2 big time schools were playing.

I think it'll be a pretty competitive game. I did some research on Georgia to find an opponent who ran an exclusive spread/pass offensive system and the only one i could find was TROY, a 8-4 team from the Sun Belt Conference.

Heavily favored GA beat TROY by 10 Points and gave up 310 yards in the air. Say what you will about Hawaii but it'll be close with Hawaii pulling off the upset.

Richt said Troy was the only team on Georgia's schedule which comes close to matching Hawaii's commitment to the passing game.

"Troy doesn't do it as good as Hawaii, but Troy does throw the ball an awful lot and they did spread it out quite a bit," Richt said. "I'd say half of their offense was throwing little quick screens behind the line of scrimmage ... whereas Hawaii has short, medium and deep-ball opportunities.

All of the bcs bowls other than the national championship. Hawaii, Ill, Kansas and a Pat White'less WV are all posers.

The same Michigan team that struggled to beat shotgun/spread/option offensive schemes in teams like Appalachian State and Oregon? granted this was early in there season i just don't think they have the firepower to compete... not to mention all the distractions going on in that team with Lloyd Carr's departure. Also... they dont have a lot of momentum going into this bowl game losing to Ohio State and Wisconsin.

Michigan has never seen an Urban Meyer spread... not to mention a really tough dual threat quarterback in Tebow. Also the history of the SEC owning the Big 10.

Michigan will get crushed.... just like last year in the Rose Bowl.

South Florida is a solid overall team that beat W. Virginia, Auburn and Louisville. Oregon has lost 3 straight after losing Dixon and have looked awful against Arizona, UCLA and Oregon State.

USF also had a 3 game skid but they rallied to finish the season strong against Louisville and Pittsburgh.

and no other team depends on one player as much as Oregon does and Dennis Dixon, USF is an easy pick to win over Oregon imo

oh i changed my post about Oregon beating USF.... i denno why i did that... guess i had a brain fart and mixed up USF with UCF.

Michigan has never seen an Urban Meyer spread... not to mention a really tough dual threat quarterback in Tebow. Also the history of the SEC owning the Big 10.

Dennis Dixon and Juice Williams come to mind - they both ran an effective spread and both had solid offenses

Illinois' biggest problem is that they are an undisciplined group - when they get their act together they beat OSU - when they give up late hits on 3rd and long they lose to teams like Michigan and Iowa

Can Michigan handle the spread - no - but they also have the type of offense that can run it down a teams throat and hold onto the ball for long periods of time rendering the other teams offense useless for a majority of the game

I find it hard to believe Michigan and all those seniors wouldnt want to send Carr out with a win

And as for the SEC owning the Big Ten - do you watch the Big Ten other than last years NC game?
BCS era - the Big Ten has a winning record against the SEC including a 2-1 mark from last year

That is not owning - just because you and everyone else thinks the SEC is better doesnt mean it is :boxing:

Other than MSU (and they have a fighting chance) - I think the B10 can do pretty well - USC has shown it doesnt like playing a spread option/pass team with a mobile QB - Illinois is a younger Oregon - this game might be closer than some think

blueprint
12-10-2007, 09:25 PM
USC ranks 2nd in the nation in total defense... im sure they can handle whatever Illinois's offense can bring. Problem is can Illinois's defense stop USC's power running attack?

Juiced
12-10-2007, 09:35 PM
and OSU's is #1

Illinois' Defense also did an okay job against Hart and Wells

They will give up yards and points to USC but I dont think they are a pushover

Vernon Davis little brother is their starting CB and he is a fun one to watch
Benn will give the USC secondary problems
Juice can throw and run
and Mendanhall is a beast

I think USC will win it - i just dont think its going to be a blow out - but this is also Ron Zook - guess we will wait and see

I am bias a bit here... but i definitely agree with your OU comment. Oklahoma proved against Missouri that speed on offense will not beat them. Temple was shut down for the most part, the WR screens had no effect on the OU defense... the speed on Oklahomas defense will be something that West Virginia's offense has not seen all year.

OU.... BIG

Im not saying the Sugar wont be a competative game, in fact Im hoping it is a good one (sort of), but I didn't think the final score showed how much UGA really controlled the Troy game. Troy called three timeouts in thier final drive of the game and scored a meaningless touchdown with six seconds left.

I think you will enjoy it. I also think Fresno State will be a lot better next year. They only have 1 senior at a skill position, RB Clifton Smith. Their best RB is a freshman and they have a lot of RB & WR talent that are freshmen or sophomores.
