Word is he is going to enter the NFL draft. He is massive 6'8" 285 DE from Miami. Before the year he looked like a top 5 pick, but his sltock his slipping after a mediocre year. he has the physical tools to dominate, he just needs to put it all together. From what I have read, he will be a mid 1st round pick, but should he slip to us (unlikely, but possible) would you draft him? I don't know if given the oppurtunity, we could pass on such a talent. What do you guys think?

I would yes. But we won't get a shot at him.
I saw him play vs OU earlier this year and he looked very impressive, in a game where his team was getting abused, and he kept playing hard. Which is more then I can say for some of his teammates on the defense who played like dogs.

If he slipped to us I would ABSOLUTELY draft him.
Jebus... can you imagine this...
Calais Campbell - Patrick Willis - (someone not named Smith) - Manny Lawson
That would be an insane 3-4 linebacking corps.
However, don't get your hopes up... He won't fall to us. And we probably should draft some 3-4 defensive linemen more than Campbell. Campbell would have to put on a good amount of weight to play the 3-4 DE position effectively.

Campbell is a 4-3 DE. He would not play LB or DE in the 3-4.

That's how I see him too. Despite his enormous height, his is still rather light for the 3-4 end position, and too tall and not athletic enough for the 3-4 LB position. If we are running the 4-3 next year, he's worth considering, but there are other players I would target.

I agree he's best suited to be a 4-3 defensive end. But I think he could translate into a 3-4 outside linebacker. I will admit, I haven't watched a lot of film on him this year, but from what I've seen, I think he could do it. But he'd probably be a huge liability in coverage.

He'd be a liability in coverage, and would just look awkward trying to drop his hips and make cuts with RBs/TEs. His size is a better fit on the line where he can rush the passer, and get those arms up to block the QBs vision and knock down passes.

we should definetely draft him but there is NO WAY he will slip to us. Huge DE's that rush the passer are hard to find.
