Is it true that the 49ers are going to switch back the jerseys from the early 1990's at some point ?? Ive heard this rumor several times over this year but havent been able to get in confirmed. All I know is that the uniforms from our Super Bowl years look so much better than these ****ty ones weve had since 1996. Does anyone have any information on this. Are they switching back, and if so when?

The ones from the 94 season were cool ... white pants and a throwback jersey.

There was alot of talk about this matter last year and something was said about League rules requiring a lag period between request and uniform change. My guess is the whole idea was put on the back burner. Most likely, Nolan doesn't want to call attention to the glory days. And naturally, he also likes staying the course. Though I agree with you, the uni's from the early 90's look far better than the current ones, I don't expect to see them replace the current one's anytime soon under Nolan.

Dammnnn !! Then there is no truth to this at all I guess then. It isnt even close, the old ones are literally 100 times better. We just look better in them, and look more formidable in them. The old red is so much brighter and the old gold helmet and pants are awesome. Oh well. I am so dissapointed that there isnt any substance to this rumor.
I belive in the 49ers UNIFORM CURSE. We havent won a Super Bowl since we switched jerseys. 1994

uniform change would be nice, but that would be too traditional right? i mean **** nolan coached before the niners glory years, and his son is here after them. we dont have those uniforms or even the west coast offense that bill walsh invented that instills 49er legacy.

WEEKLY THROWBACK?: Nolan is a fan of the "throwback" uniforms that the 49ers wore Sunday when they beat the Vikings, and he wouldn't mind seeing them become a weekly fixture.
But league rules stipulate a lengthy advance notice for a uniform change. Nolan said even if owner John York and the NFL gave their blessing, the earliest they could be worn regularly by the team would be the 2008 season.
Nolan first developed an appreciation for the style of the uniform as a ballboy for his father, former 49ers coach **** Nolan.
"It's a great uniform," said Nolan. "I know our players really like the uniform and I kind of like it, too. Not just because I grew up with it. I just like that red. But obviously, that's a John York decision as much as anybody's, if he likes it."
http://49ers.pressdemocrat.com/default.asp?item=670103
"We're in the process of looking at our uniform. But I'd rather leave it at that for now," Nolan said. "We haven't game-planned our comments on that, yet."
When I asked if the permanent change in uniforms is something that could possibly happen this season, Nolan said coyly, "I don't know. We haven't game-planned our comments on that."
Of course, with the way this season has turned out, god knows what is going on with the uniform idea right now.

And considering the 49ers emailed all the STH 3 months ago to see what they felt about going back to the 89 jerseys I'd say yes it is a very good possibility for next year.

Good points by all on the desire to go back to the old uniforms. The 89 unis are the best by far. The new sf symbol on the helmet looks stupid and the red is totally wrong as is the gold. Let's get our colors back, get our look back, get our pride back, and stay in Candlestick and re-live the glory years until we have new glory years under Shaun Hill. Tradition is all about remembering the glory years. The way York has run this team into the ground, I'm surprised he even foots the bill for the extra throwback uniforms twice a year. Is there any truth to the rumor that York was going to be putting the Superbowl trophies on ebay? Remember when Eddie D tried to introduce those new uniforms after the terrible loss to the Giants in the 90 Championship Game! Poor Eddie was distraught as we all were. I still have a hard time watching that game on tape, that was a heartbreaker, then we lost Ronnie and Roger and Eddie tried to switch uniforms, it was a crazy few months there in early 91.

.
Oh yes indeed. I wasn't disputing the fact that he seemed to like the idea of having them back at one point. And I was real enthused when he started talking about it. But that was then and this is now. He made the statement when things still seemed pretty fresh with him here and things seemed to be looking up.
It's obviously different now, at least for him. If he were able to bring them back this year, it would've looked like a terrible idea with the type of season the Niners have had. A whole lot of people would've been talking about what a dishonor Nolan had brought upon those uniforms and that the Niners should take them off forthwith.
Personally, I don't put much stock in that stuff about disgracing the uniform. I just like the look and the feeling of Niner tradition attached to them. The fact that the present players don't compare to the ones who wore them in the glory days, takes nothing away from what those old players did while wearing them.
The glory of that time goes to the player far more than it does to the uniform. The uniform is simply a symbol of what once was and could still be in my view and I like that reminder. But then, I'm an optimist.
In any event. I do hope there's some follow up on them. :sflogo:

It would be nice to have our traditional uniforms, colors and logo back! This is the look we had during the great years of success, and 20 years before that! We should sport this look with pride!
The 49ers are considered to be one of the "Classic" franchises in the NFL, along with the Steelers, Cowboys, Packers, Colts, Bears, Raiders. When you see those teams take the field, good or bad they have the look of a champion/success!
Like the Yankees and Dodgers in baseball, tradition is everything! Can you imagine if the Yankees went with a new color scheme and logo??? Why would they...the look is $$$ for that organization. "Brand Recognition"
Let teams like Arizona, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, JAX change up color schemes and logo's every year to create that great look of "Expansion".

I agree with you 100%.....the one thing about the "throwback" uniforms that I wish they would change if they do go back to the real 49ers uniforms is how shiny the jerseys are. The jerseys of '89 did not have that super shiny look that many have today, and with the classic shade of red, it just doesn't look right. Also, they may want to reconsider the whole black cleats thing, as the 49ers of the '80's did not wear those. The 49ers went to the wide stripe pant in 1976, and by then few teams in the NFL were wearing black cleats. It looks kind of funny for the 49ers to be wearing black cleats with the uniforms from the '80's...if they want to wear the black cleats, they should go all the way back and wear the thin stripe pants of the old school 49ers uniforms...that would be a cool look too, like the NY Giants and Jets classic 1960's look unis today.

I agree. The classic unis would look great with the narrower strips on the pants. I also like what the NY teams did, especially doing away with the satin shine pants.

Thank you! I knew i wasn't dreaming that, i got in a massive and slightly childish arguement with a mate of mine about that.
The balck cleats should also go because i think the kit boy has been polishing them with lead paint or something, they seem to weigh twice as much as the white ones!! Its the only way i can explain the fact that the Oline seemed to age 10 years overnight, Gore could shed tackles like he used to and our receivers could get separation for love or money!
They were all slowed down by those heavy black cleats! What? Its no more ridicluous than we'll win if we switch our jersey back to the ones we wore in 19canteen... so come on who's with me?

We Havent Won A Super Bowl Since We Switched Jerseys In 1994. This Curse Is Real. We Need To Switch Back
We had the 56 uni's in 1994 for the NFL's 75th Anniversary Season. They were only going to be used by teams for two games that season (week 3 and 4) one for road and one for home. The 49ers lost the next time they went back to the 89's that season and asked the NFL to use the throwbacks the rest of the season, I think the Lions and one other team did it also. In 95 we went back to the 80's uni's and then in 96's for the 50th we went to the jersyes we have now. So the last SB win was in the 56's uni's.
Someone also talked about the "One Day Uninform". They came out with them after the 1989 SB win over the Broncos. They were bad, very bad. None of the team would go to the press showing the new uni's.

I don't blame the unis. I blame the organizational changes that coincided with the new uniforms. However if the team went back to the 89s as a gesture of a commitment to embody the commitment to winning that we all enjoyed back then, I'd be ALL for it!

That's not quite right. During the first three years in the current unis, we won at least 12 games and a playoff game each time. Our bad luck started when our leadership shifted from a competitive, football centered man to a disinterested doctor and his wife.

what's wrong with the "old" logo?
I could get all typophile/graphic designer on everyone and go on about how the kerning (letter spacing) is all to hell and how the typeface itself has been really quite badly messed wih to get it all to fit in the sheild, but at the end of the day, the biggest issue i've had with it is that it was a nightmare to use at smaller sizes.
The whole thing became a mess, there were too many stars, and just what the logic behind the number of them was other than "we cant fit anymore in" i'll never know because it had nothing to do with the number of teams or states represented in the league or anything! The ball looked awful as well, who has ever used a ball that shape? That thing must have been inflated well above the regulation 13lbs is all i'm saying.
Also from a production stand point Reebok and other manufacturers will be much happier as it will be easier to reproduce when it comes to embroidering onto jerseys and caps etc.
There was nothing terribly wrong with the old one they've just made it cleaner and easier to use at smaller sizes which in this day and age with handheld devices with small screens is no bad thing in my book. And for a change IMO they've managed to update something without totally ruining it which is not always the case when it comes to the NFL and logos.
