View Full Version : Upsetting the Pats draft plans

At this late point in the season, the Niners are playing for three reasons:
- Pride.
- To save some of their individual jobs, and/or make themselves look good to other teams.
- To ruin the Pats' draft plans.
The Pats get "our" first round pick this year, so wherever we fall, that's what they get. At one point, that was the #2 pick, which I am sure the Pats were drooling over. But after our two wins in two weeks, they might not even be in the top ten anymore.
And if we win again next week, hey...anything that screws over the Pats is good by me... :stirthepot:

It doesn't matter which # pick the Pats get, they're going to trade it, and get under-rated players and make them great...as usual.

I think our pick is still currently in the top 10.
1) Fins 1-14
2) Jets 3-12
3) Falcons 3-12
4) Rams 3-12
5) Ravens 4-11
6) Raiders 4-11
7) Chiefs 4-11
8) Niners 5-10
If we win against cleveland we might make it out of the top 10. Either way I think our last 2 wins have eliminated the chance of them landing DMC.

I think if we win out, our pick can go as low as #11.

it doesn't matter much, the pats cant really afford to sign a top rookie anyway, they will have to trade itl

He probably wasn't going there anyway. I'm guessing that they will draft a lot of D this year.

I would imagine if they had the #2 overall pick, they would've rather traded out of that position anyway. Even now, this probably works just as well for them, since I think they'll take a linebacker.

Dream scenario = Patriots rest their starters against NYG, and end up losing.
Moss doesn't get the record
Brady doesn't get the record
Patriots don't get the record

If they didn't rest them today, they ain't resting them on Saturday.

The Giants are going to the playoffs too, and will HAVE to rest their starters after they had to rescue themselves from Eli Manning today...

That would be nice but they really need to address the defense this up comming off season. It's possible that Bruschi, Seau and Harrison are all retiring this year. Those are 3 big hits.

I seriously don't think they're resting anyone next week. They didn't pull brady out of the fins game until there was like 2 mins left in the game. I think all those records are going down come next week against the giants. The giants are more likely to rest people than they are.

Correct. We will trade down and pick up some young LB's. However, if the Pats find a play in the Top 10 that they really like, they won't be afraid to pay them. A la Richard Seymour.

If we really wanted to screw over the Pats, we'd tank all our games and force them to draft #2 over all and way over a pay for a rookie who might not pan out.

i agree, i also think there will be some major changes to that defense, like bruschi and seau retiring. a new young LB stud is what they need.
Also they gotta big out big bucks to keep samuel around.

Like we did in 2005?

who cares about the pats. If we lose, we'll have a better 2nd round draft pick (and better throughout the draft) and I'll be happy about that. If we win, we'll have a nice road win and I'll be happy about that.
