View Full Version : Is Braylon Edwards the next great wide receiver?

Someone mentioned Brandon Marshall but Edwards has the QB and the O line to get him the ball.
He has 15 TDs and he can only get better since this is only his 3rd season playing in the NFL.
Will he be the best receiver in the game and be equal to Moss and TO in the next 2 years?

Edwards, Marshall and Colston are up there for young WRs. Santonio Holmes, Dwayne Bowe, Greg Jennings and Roddy White are all real good young WRs too.

I heard Braylon Edwards shoplifted gum from a store. He's a bad person to look up to.

I think this year is a bit more of an abberation but he is one of the up and commers.

Anquan Boldin is still the receiver that I'd most like to see in a 49ers uniform in the future. He's a grown @$$ man!!!

Just imagine if the Niners kept Jeff Garcia and they drafted Braylon Edwards, Vernon Davis, and Frank Gore
that would be the 2000's version of the triplets

That would have been sweet. All we would be missing is Derek Anderson in the 6th round of the 04 draft and we'd be set lol

I agree. But I like Boldin's YAC style more than any other receiver. He's out to hurt people after he gets the ball. Hah.

Andre Johnson is about to finish his 5th year. Of course he is going to be better then younger WRs.
Not saying thats the only reason why he is better, cause he is clearly a top WR in this league, i just thought it was funny to see his name thrown in this thread. Its about young Wrs, and to see Andre Johnson's name i thought was funny.

Boldin was drafted the same year but you dont think that is funny.
Andre Johnson 26
Anquan Boldin 27
Larry Fitzgerald 24
Braylon Edwards 24
Calvin Johnson 22
Dwayne Bowe 23
These are all upcoming receivers who have showed something in their short careers. To me Andre is showing how dominant he is and how awful the Texans are without him. Texans are 5-3 with his 97 ypg and 2-5 without them.

Didn't realize Boldin was that old. Anyway, when does a player switch from an up and coming young Wr to a vet? After 5 years I would imagine they have made the switch.

Andre Johnson, Boldin and Fitz arent 'up and coming' WRs, most people would include them in their top 10.

Would Braylon now be off the list because of his great year this year. What makes a receiver up and coming then. Because Calvin Johnson and Dwayne Bowe did have good rookie years but nobody knows if they could be the next Michael Clayton so I wouldnt consider them up and coming. Marques Colston could be up and coming but he is already considered the biggest snub in the pro bowl.

Braylon is having a great year but its just that - a year. He might make top 10 WR but leaving him off wouldnt raise many eyebrows IMO.
Johnson is not really up and coming, he had a somewhat dissapointing rookie year. As for Bowe, you cant say hes not up and coming just cause Clayton fizzled out.

OMG WE SHOULD HAVE TEADED FOR THEM! Maybe D Smith, Kwame and Andy Lee's shoe string would get them for us.
Seriously whats with all the CJ love on this board, he could be the biggest first round bust of 2007 the way he performed.

But you cant say that he is because of one year. If Johnson is not up and coming then I do not know what is. But I guess you know the definition of it.

Johnson didnt have a great year rookie year, it was a good year, nothing special. You could argue James Jones of the Packers had a better rookie year.

I'd add Gonzo and Robinson and Rice to that as well. Were it not for the pass happy offense CJ would not have been a top 5 rookie WR this year.
Of course he's still a goliath, and i'd expect in years 2 and 3 he'll pass all but Bowe.

Im not. Im just saying, Hill was considering a polished WR who has a ton of upside where as Robinson was the "project." Looking at their stats, you'd guess it was the other way around.
I still like Hill alot. You cant expect much from a WR until year 3.

Well it would have been nice to see what he could do. To bad our coaching staff is a little clueless but that is another topic.

What does having a good rookie year have to do with becoming an up and coming receiver. You could have a crappy rookie year and still end up being a superstar in this league or you could have a great rookie year but end up being out of the league in the future.

Your chasing your own tail on this one.
How can someone be up and coming if they havent shown they can be elite? CJ has all the tools but he hasnt put it together yet ala his teammate Roy Williams.
All you can base up and coming on is how they've performed. Bowe has been great, as has Colston, Marshall, Holmes and a bunch others. CJ hasnt show that #1 gamebreaking ability yet hence him not being up and coming.

Exactly, Andre Johnson has been performing great which is why he is also considered up and coming. I dont care about CJ, I really do not care for players who are "guaranteed" to be great. One thing people have to look at is that it takes about three years for a receiver to start to produce and their best years are basically 28-31 IMO
