View Full Version : Martz Hits The Market

A league source tells us that Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz is actively looking for similar work with other NFL teams.
This strongly suggests that Martz knows that he'll soon be relieved of his duties in Detroit.
Martz, the former head coach of the Rams, rose to prominence as the offensive coordinator under **** Vermeil, when the Rams came out of nowhere to win Super Bowl XXXIV. Martz became the head coach of the Rams when Vermeil retired after the Super Bowl win.
His final season in St. Louis was marred by a bacterial heart infection and in-fighting with the front office. He has extensive experience at the college level, and he has also worked for the Redskins.

He'd go down a bomb at WVU if they haven't yet filled their headcoach position.

With a sprinkling of "We should still get Marty" threads, right?
And I'm sure some are holding out for Vick to return to the team, too...

Our 49ers offense is a mess. We have Gore and some good receivers. Also our defense is pretty good. We need a new quarterback for sure. Alex Smith is a bust, lets get rid of him. I don't know if anyone else out there is making the trip to Cleveland, but I found a cool celebrity/sports restaurant. It's Alice Coopers restaurant called Alice Cooper's Town, and I found it on this neat website called www.HeadlinerDiners.com. I wonder if there are any other athlete restaurants in Cleveland?

Faulk did pretty well for a stretch under Martz. Faulk had 3 1300+ yard seasons in a row and 10 or more touchdowns in 5 straight years.
In 2000 Faulk had 18 rushing touchdowns and 8 more through the air.
With Martz I would be more worried about our offensive line protecting who ever our QB would be.

well chad johnson has to go somewhere....and i think if martz came here, he would want teh ball going to him on nearly every down. which might not be a terrible idea. i dont want any drama though
just sayin
I'd rather get Cam Cameron if he gets fired, but that's been said dozens of times already.

I don't want him. We are a running team not a passing team. He'll help out Smith but not Gore. Probably give him like 12 cpg. Ill rather get Cam Cameron.

See now if you would have put your title in ALL CAPS and had something like "MARTZ OUT, WE NEED HIM FOR OC" you wouldn't have this problem :shades:

If you step back and think about it, it might not be a bad idea. If Martz were to introduce a spread offense, it may be better for Alex Smith. Also given the size and strengths of our wide outs it may be be to their advantage. It would probably negate a Vernon Davis but has he really contributed to this point. If Gore can become more of a Marshall Faulk type instead of a power runner, it might just work. All this of course is predicated on the fact that Nolan would be open to moving away from the conservative power running philosophy to more of an attacking pass oriented one. I doubt it. Just some things to consider.

No, he would just be catching alot from the backfield. At least it should reduce his fumbles.

WTF? Good receivers? Where, I haven't been able to find them. As much as I love Battle's effort, it doesn't cut it man. And he's our best.

Wait a minute........
You hate Norn but you like the idea of Martz??????yes, I hate watching very complacent playcalling...and excuses to "protect" Alex Smith by calling runs, runs and more runs even when it is 3rd and long.
I like daring playcalling and Mike Martz is just what the doctor ordered.
I think that Mike Martz would at least "balance" his playcalling with NOLAN (please let him go!)
