Hes gotta be the best S in the game right now, good move as usual by the Eagles. Michael Lewis will probably have another stellar season but LJs production really fell off once TO was suspended. Should be interesting to see what he does this year.

Correction, LJ's production fell off when he started getting the dropsies and Mike McMahon started.

I think LJ will have a good season this year, just a feeling.. Michael Lewis better have a good season if he expects to get the contract extension hes looking for.

Ed Reed

Ed Reed is flashier, but Dawkins is more consistant and arguably the best hitter in the NFL. He plays with a passion/leadership that I don't think anyone in the game does. I like both Reed and Dawkins a lot, but I think Reed still has to do it a few more years before he's on Dawkins level (well by then he'll be like 36 )

Im with Nikko. Reed is a playmaker who'll make it on prime time but Dawkins has the coverage ability of a safety and the hitting ability of a LB, a good one at that too.

Plus, Reed has had some injuries just a few years into his career and Dawkins seems to be never be injured.

If you're building a team no doubt Reed is your choice but Dawkins is the better player right now.

EDIT: I may go as far as to say Polamulu is better than Reed.

Reed, Dawkins or Polamulu, you're not going wrong either way. If I had to take one right now, I'd take Reed because of his age and talent.

i'd rank them in the order you have them as well.

i think both Reed and Dawk can make plays even if the rest of the defense forget to show up, Polamulu has a great motor but gets caught out of position more often then the other two guys...

I actually never ranked them in any specific order, but looking back on it, it could very well be the order. I agree with the rest of your statements, especially in regards to Polamulu. I'd like to see a bit more control of his game.

i gotta agree, there are no two safeties in the league better than ed reed and brian dawkins right now. those guys just do it all. i think reed can do more with the ball once he has it via turnover, but that's about the only real difference i think.

and if you don't think Ed Reed can hit you have NEVER watched a Raven's or even a UM game...

Haha, good ole Tiz always starting something. Ed Reed is a good hitter but Dawkins could probably pass as a LB, same cant be said about Reed IMO.

Dawkins plays LB in some nickle packages for Philadelphia.

Proof is in the pudding. (not sure what that means but i think it fits lol)

Dawkins has a physique for LB and plays more like Darren Woodson so to this i wouldn't necessarily disagree but the statement made previously was one that implied that Ed Reed couldn't hit and that in itself was a foolish statement..

Ed Reed can lay the wood and does so...

Ed Reed can definately hit. Dawkins is arguably the leagues best hitter though. I like both safeties a lot.

Well I guess its a good thing I never implied that.....

Dawkins signs two-year extension with Eagles

CANTON, OHIO (Aug. 6, 2006) -- Brian Dawkins agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Eagles that could keep the five-time Pro Bowl safety in Philadelphia through the 2008 season.

"It's nice to get this out of the way and it's time to get the season going," Dawkins said before the Eagles played the Oakland Raiders in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. "I'm looking forward to being here another two years. It's a good thing for me, absolutely, and for the organization."

Dawkins, who will turn 33 in October, was to earn $3 million in the final year of his contract this season. Terms of the new deal weren't immediately known.

Not so fast! Trotter takes less $$$: Shame on the cheap Eagles FO even though he turned down 5-6 million a year from KC.

Dawkins takes less $$$ from what it looks like:

link (http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/sports/15215807.htm)

Source: Dawk chose Philly over more money
CANTON, Ohio - Brian Dawkins' agent Jim Steiner did not return calls seeking comment last night, but another source close to the situation said that, like Jon Runyan, who is represented by the same firm, Dawkins made a decision that the benefits of staying in Philadelphia outweighed the strong possibility of making a little more money in free agency than the Eagles were offering in an extension.

Dawkins was scheduled to make about $3 million this season, the final year of the contract he signed in 2003, since he reached clauses letting him void the final 3 years of the 7-year deal, which included $8 million in bonuses. This deal, with Dawkins approaching his 33rd birthday Oct. 13, is considerably more modest. The source said Dawkins will get an extra $6 million for extending his commitment 2 years past this season. He now will make around $5 million this season, including a new $2 million roster bonus, then will get $4 million more for the extra 2 years.

"I'm definitely excited to finally get that thing over and done with," Dawkins said after the game. "I've said a number of times I wanted to get it done as soon as possible, to get it off my mind, if it was, and off you guys' minds, so I can stop answering the same questions over and over again."

But then again, when Tom Brady takes less $$$ to stay with the Patriots their FO is, "Genius, Smart, How great are these guys at working the cap!?!?"
:rolleyes2:
