Couple of surprises in there:
Mayock's top 5 WRs:
1. Mario Manningham, Michigan
2. DeSean Jackson, California
3. Limas Sweed, Texas
4. Malcom Kelly, Oklahoma
5. Early Doucet, LSU Interested to see what Mayock has to say about Manningham, and why he deserves top billing.
Mayock's top 5 CBs:
1. Leodis McKelvin, Troy
2. Brandon Flowers, Virginia Tech
3. Aqib Talib, Kansas
4. Mike Jenkins, South Florida
5. Reggie Smith, Oklahoma Brandon Flowers??? Surprised he doesn't have Rodgers-Cromartie in there (probably bumped by Flowers).
Good to see Laws in the top 5.

Wow! Cromartie would be a steal if we got him in the 2nd.

I'm actually a fan of Mayock's... I just checked out ther rest

and I'm going to excuse him for now and say he's just waiting for certain players to show something in the combines.

he may be abit off now but he does give a good analysis. gotta give him some credit. one of the few if not the only tv guy that actually has some good and knowledgeable insight.
I like his analysis, but wow do these rankings effect my opinion of him a little. It's cool he's willing to put his own lists together without regard for other "Draft Site" regurgitated rankings, but a few of these are head scratchers. No DRC in the top 5 CBs? Letroy Guion a top 5 DT? Manningham the #1 WR? WTF?
I like how he has the balls to rank another RB ahead of McFadden. If I'm looking for a RB, I'd take both Mendenhall and Stewart before Run DMC. But then, I subscribe to the work-horse back philosophy.

Cason not in the top 5 CBs
I missed that one...yeh, that's a definite head-scratcher.

The OT group is a bit interchangeable though. Cason is, for me at least, hands down the best CB available. He won't be the fastest at the combine, but he'll get to more balls and be the best at the next level.

What do you think of Thomas DeCoud in the 3rd round if he is avialable ?

I'm totally perplexed on 4 of 5 TE's. Most of the others i can justify but no rucker or the A&M guy?
Clearly he knows something i dont.
Maj----Cason.............we are in the same boat to me he's far and away the best of a very good bunch.

If I had to guess I would have said he made his rankings without watching the tape of these guys yet, as he's been known to do but he just saw a lot of these guys at the Senior Bowl......so hence I am perplexed. I agree with not having McFadden that high at RB, since he's more of a great athlete then a great RB IMO and has the chicken legs problem, but some of those other rankings are just puzzling.

I agree.
I think Mayock does his rankings mainly like a scout, based on observation. So some of the people who seem too low or missing may be because he hasn't watched much of them yet.
What I always find more interesting is the guys he has high. Manningham that high is interesting, as are Flowers and Guion

Flowers isn't that surprising at all, he is one of the better cover corners in college. Guion has a lot of potential but from what I've seen he is extremely raw.

among many of the other head scratchers already mentioned, i can't believe he doesn't even list martellus bennett in the top 5 TEs. that guy's one of my favorite players in this year's draft. if we needed a TE, i'd be dropping his name all the time.

See thats why Im perplexed, he usually refrains from listing underclassmen until he has watched tape, so that could explain it, YET Manningham is #1 for WR's?

I think DeCoud would be solid as well, he's got fantastic leaping ability too, he can really challenge guys during jump balls. He's a good hitter too.

Cason seems like a perfect fit in NE. just a hunch if Samuel walks.
I'd be surprised if they a CB that early when they got Meriweather last year.
Hobbes2d
02-07-2008, 06:47 PM
Merriweather is a hybrid. he could play CB, but he could also play Safety. but i think his best position is as a nickel back. he's a good coverman on those typical slot WR's. i get your point though. but one can never predict what NE will draft. LB would be most logical.
My guess would be trade down and maybe take an OT since Kaczur is crap. Jeff Otah would be a good fit at RT.

His rankings looks twacked compared to the other Draft sites, but then again he probably has a lot more resources on the rookie prospects than any of those random sites. So I wouldn't put it past him to have a more accurate ranking board than most draft sites. I think he's the best guy on NFL network as far as talent evaluation and insight. I'm not saying that his rankings should be the end all be all, but they are normally pretty accurate.

That's not saying much when you consider all of the retards NFL Network employs. Jamie Dukes ftw! :falldownlaugh:

He must be getting bad ratings, because NFLN seems to be trying the hardest to push his show. I wish they'd do us all a favor and can him already. The guy is incompetent.

i watched his show once, just once. he does this segment of his show where he replays an interview, usually a post game interview of a player. well instead of letting you listen to what the guy has to say all you hear is fatty Dukes saying "uh huh" "yup" "thats right" over the interview the entire time. wow it was so annoying. the dude blows, i have no idea how he got a job.
Every networks seems to have gone to the same consultant that explains to them they need at least one obnoxious/annoying/ishstain of a personality. I don't get it. Just find people that have something worth listening to, quit trying to force feed us retards.

The only reason I can think of is he has a serious connection with one of the higher ups on the NFLN staff. Otherwise he'd already be canned because the dude is plain retarded and his ish aren't even funny. I know I would have fired his *** if I had the power to

i like Deion because he works well with Mooch and Marshall but he can't even say Wes Welker. Deion calls him something like Was Warker.
but agree, these networks are ridiculous with the retards on air. and now i know why sometimes my dad says they need to stop hiring former players and personality guys instead of guys with substance.
I like Deion...until he goes prime-time and I have to turn the TV down a few notches so I won't wake the dead. He was actually even a good listen in the game he announced too.

I agree with Mayock's rankings for QBs, RBs, OTs, DEs, OLBs, and Safeties. I don't think Manningham deserves top billing at WR. He isn't physical enough to be a No. 1 WR, IMO, and would be better suited as a split end at the next level. Personally, I rank Manningham only slightly above Malcolm Kelly:
1. James Hardy
2. DeSean Jackson
3. Early Doucet
4. Andre Caldwell
5. Mario Manningham
I can live with Keller in the top 5 TEs, but I don't know why Mayock didn't put Rucker in his top 5. Personally, I would draft Kellen Davis as a DE more than a TE. My top 5 are:
1. Fred Davis
2. Martin Rucker
3. Martellus Bennett
4. Dustin Keller
5. Jacob Tamme
I can't really comment too much on interior lineman, because I have a very different view than most draftniks. I would draft Sam Baker, Carl Nicks, Heath Benedict, Eric Young and Tony Hills as guards before I would draft Roy Schuening. Very hard for me to rank them.
My top 5 DTs are almost identical, except I have Pat Sims instead of Letroy Guion (???). Really, I've got Trevor Laws and Pat Sims tied for 4th. Sims is more of a load than Laws, but Laws plays with unmatched leverage, and an uncanny ability to locate and tackle the ball-carrier. I think Laws will be very Marques Douglas-like at the next level -- undersized, but just gets the job done.
Don't like the ILB group at all. Where's Wheeler and Gooden (who made a much bigger impact when they moved him inside)? I like that Jo-Lonn Dunbar made the top 5, but Beau Bell??? He'd be a good thumper at Ted linebacker, but where's the sideline-to-sideline range? That's why I usually break up the ILB group to 3-4 and 4-3.
4-3 MLB/3-4 Mike Linebacker:
1. Tavares Gooden
2. Dan Connor
3. Curtis Lofton
4. Vince Hall
5. Jo-Lonn Dunbar
3-4 Ted Linebacker:
1. Phillip Wheeler
2. Ezra Butler
3. Spencer Larsen
4. Dan Connor
5. Beau Bell
I like Brandon Flowers as a very physical and consistent CB, but come on. Better than Mike Jenkins? Better than Aqib Talib?
1. Antoine Cason
2. Leodis McKelvin
3. Mike Jenkins
4. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
5. Aqib Talib

Interesting that About.com has us picking him (Manningham).
If he was the top WR, hard to imagine he'd fall that far in the first round, no?
29. San Francisco 49ers (from Indianapolis) - *Mario Manningham, WR Michigan
Team Needs: WR OT DE CB OLB
Manningham lacks elite speed, but he does a good job of using his quickness to gain separation from defenders. With the 49ers in need of a No. 1 receiver, he should get some consideration at this point.

dukes used to be on one of the am sports talk stations here in atl and was unbearable to listen too....his side-kick who worked on the other sports talker here recently was hired also by nfln and i am scratching my head....the nfln HR hiring process must be pretty twisted.
