Which QB would you want the 49ers to take?
Poll coming...

IMO Flacco, Henne, Woodson will all be gone by the third. I wouldn't mind having Ainge or Johnson. Can't decide...
BTW I think Brennan is the correct spelling...

What about Brohm from Louisville, he's projected to go early 2nd round?

well you guys know we're gonna draft one we ran out of qb's last year and had to sign one just to fill the roster cause all the other ones got hurt.
well i do know this much dixon isn't nfl material unless he's a carrer back up or roster filler and samething for woodson. booty well i havn't really decided on him yet he didn't impress me.
i would like....hmm it's a tuffy. hang on i have to flip a coin, heads it's henne tails it's flacco
i'll be a son of a gun it stood straight up in my carpet....guess we have to get both

Henne in the 5th. I honestly dont think we need a QB right now. We have 2 competing. Henne would be great if he ever went to the 5th.

the 5th? i don't even think he'll be available when we pick in the 4th, and if he is, i wouldn't mind us taking him there depending on what we've done so far. i do agree that drafting a qb is not the biggest priority for our team right now, but i think henne's got a good shot at being a pretty good QB in the league.

I think drafting a new QB project is a priority. It isn't a first 3 rounds priority, but it will be distressing if they don't grab one. There's a reasonable chance Smith and Hill will not be very good, which would lead to bringing in another poor vet and drafting one next year, missing out on a prime chance this upcoming year for a late round project to hold a clip board and learn from Martz.
Henne will go in the 2nd or high 3rd rounds. I tried to "value" all of the qbs on the list by putting them in the lowest round they are generally being projected for.

Why is it that I wouldn't be completely surprised if Martz picked him as his starting QB.

In 2009 maybe. Doubt he would this year. Not with us picking up Smitty's $8m roster bonus, then shelling out a few mil for Hill. Smith will start, no matter who wins the pre-season battle.

yeah, i know... my comment was to the person that said henne in the 5th, which would be a fricken miracle. also, i never said i didn't want us NOT to draft a QB, i just don't think it's a day one priority.

**** that, if we do that we're just asking to lose. Pick the best guy. I hate this coaching staff :thud:
Positives: Has a quick release, especially when throwing under duress...Has a live arm, showing above average velocity on all throws...Stands tall under pressure and is not the type who will get happy feet when flushed out of the pocket...Has the mental toughness to take command in the huddle...Shows very good timing throwing over the middle...Is quick to locate his secondary targets, showing very good progression reads...Despite a lack of speed, he is quick getting back from center to his pass point...Shows good delivery quickness and a fluid over-the-top release point...Keeps his eyes downfield and won't get rattled in pressure situations...Has very good accuracy on his short and intermediate throws, as it is rare that his receivers have to adjust for the ball when Olson is able to stand in the pocket...Does a very good job hitting his targets when they are coming out of their cuts.
Sounds like a Martz QB to me. :hoppy:

I'm all for Olson getting his shot. I was happy when we signed him. It's the finances that will prevent it. The plus for him is he's been here a year already, so he's been able to practice with some of our guys. Could be a gem if polished.
Even though Smith will be the day one starter, it doesn't mean he'll finish the season that way. I think we can afford to have a quick hook on these guys this year.

Same I like Getsy too, hopefully he can be kept stashed on the practice squad this year.

I'd be okay with that. I was a big fan of his when he came out of college and never understood why he didn't get drafted. He improved every year in college, put up great numbers as a senior, has good arm strength, accuracy and pocket presence. I don't understand why somebody wouldn't even use a 7th rounder on him. Baltimore didn't give him much of a chance either. He clearly outplayed troy smith in the limited action he got in pre-season, but they still went with smith anyway.

We have a number one and two. I think we see how it goes this season and make a decision next term on whether we need a new man in town.
Olsen may get a chance as a number three with upside, and that's fine by me.
Certainly in the 3rd round, SF will have other pressing needs (as a potential starter or impact player).

I don't think we should draft a qb. We need to look at free agents, because both our guys are coming off of injury plagued seasons. Hill is a servicable backup that did his job last year, but has troubling medical issues, he would be an ideal #3 that could step in when needed. I think We should try to get a proven veteran backup like Volek in FA, and place Olson on the practice squad. I bet Volek would fit right in a Martz type of offense, should something bad happen to Smith.
If we were to keep Hill as the primary backup, with Olson as the 3rd guy, the only QB I would think about drafting for competition is Ainge in rounds 6 or 7. Maybe call Brennan in last few rounds and sign him as a priority undrafted free agent to the practice squad.

I really don't think we draft a quarterback before the 4th round truly, I think we need to let this year play itself out see where Smith and Hill play out and maybe see what Olson can do for us possibly and if we have to draft one I say Ainge, or Brennan but Ainge preferably

What has he proven in college besides how to lose? We need winners on our team, not losers. A losing mentality is contagious.

I liked him in the UNLV game, but in the All-Star games he played in, he looked horrible. Has a weak arm, no accuracy, and seems flighty.

ha. yea I love the "winning mentality" thing. It only means something when you want it to. All of the winning quarterbacks from Nebraska, Miami, Oklahoma, Oregon, Hawaii... The QB has to be a leader, so he has to be an external and internal optimist.
At the end of the game you can't penalize a guy for going to a team that has no defense or a much weaker line or terrible wide receivers. You can only measure them.

well, it's not like he was surrounded by much talent. he gave SDSU the best shot at winning than anyone on that team.
drafting a QB in the 6th that's big, strong, athletic, smart, and accurate is fine with me. he's got the attributes you look for, just a little raw, but it's the SIXTH ROUND!!! most players picked in the round end up on the practice squad anyways, which is a good place for a raw prospect. it's not like any QB we'd draft would be starting this season anyway, unless of course we continue to regress and have bad luck.

I find it quite ironic that the same guys are saying Brennan that are bashing Smith. System QB in a weak conference. Brennan's biggest game in his career and he looked like garbage. How's Chang doing in the NFL these days?

good point, plus he looked like crap when martz put him under center for the senior bowl.unless a team runs an offense similar to what new england was doing this season brennan will be a clip board holder for a very long time

Hard to believe that I'm the only guy here to pick Brohm, if we could get him in the 2nd round which I doubt.
He more than fits Martz's type of QB. Maybe because everyone thinks that Baltimore probably will take him in the 1st round but look what happened with AAron Rogers.

I left Brohm and Ryan off because I think it's pretty much assured they'll be off the board before the 49ers even start thinking maybe about taking a QB in the 3rd.
If we had to take a QB early I'd wheel and deal something and land Joe Flacco.
But we don't....I guess.
Therefore I'd use a 6th or 7th Rounder on Kevin O'Connell or Matt Flynn (Believe it or not).
In post draft free agency I'd bring in Blake Barmore.
