(02-28) 08:30 PST PHILADELPHIA (AP) --

The Philadelphia Eagles have cut Jevon Kearse.

The Eagles released the former rookie of the year Thursday. The 31-year-old defensive end failed to live up to the lofty expectations when he signed as a free agent in 2004.

Kearse recorded 3 1/2 sacks in 14 games last season and saw his playing time diminish late in the year. He missed most of the 2006 season with a knee injury.

Early in his career, Kearse was one of the NFL's most feared pass rushers. He had 36 sacks in his first three season. He earned Rookie of the Year honors in 1999.

I know he hasn't done much lately, that knee injury seemed to really effect him, but i wonder if another year away from that injury could help him be productive again? wishful thinking, but maybe the niners should take a look at him not to start per say, but even just to add depth to our line?

I don't know if he would be a good fit because of his production value currently...I wonder if he would be a good veteran leader on the line though...the ony way to tell is by interview with the staff...but idk what kind of money he'd be looking for...i think justin smith would be a better fit due to the fact he is young and has potential in a growing defense

Might as well sign this dude instead. They are equally injury-prone.

So The Freak is 31 & Justin Smith is 29.**** in only 2 years you become hella old. When you stated he was young,I thought maybe he's around 25 0r 26.I guess 2 years can make a difference.

Look at his career stats. He's never injured and has played almost started every game but 1. There's a difference between the 2.

Yeah, but Javon Kearse is very good when healthy while Justin Smith is mediocre to pretty good.

I know he 31 now, and has failed to live up to the "freakish" expectations, but he has been hurt. I feel Javon Kearse is the kind of guy that when healthy, can still record 8-10 sacks and put himself in the running for comeback player of the year. They need pass rushers! Period. He would be a great fit in SF.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

*clears throught and gathers himself*

Forgive me for that

What we need is energy and athleticism, Not old age and injuries. If he was not an injury risk, maybe.

Good job man...my sentiments exactly!!!

Sometimes I wonder what people think about in terms of building a team, NOT JUST FOR NEXT YEAR but for years to come

Recently released by the eagles because he couldn't stay healthy. We are in dire need of a pass rushing specialist. Should we add Kearse to our list of possible FA signings?

I was looking to see if anyone had posted this yet.....its an interesting option, if hew can stay healthy it would be a good addition, but he shouldnt be signed for much.....a contract with heavy incentives would be the best, with the linebackers we have a DE of some quality would be great for the team.
