Why isn't NFL Total Access in HD?

How come they don't broadcast all NFL Total Access and NFL Gameday shows in HD?


The NFL is making billions of dollars and their network shows have the budget of a cheap reality show where they can't use HD cameras?

My cable provider doesnt offer it as an HD channel... although the regular season games are broadcast in HD by a Canadian sports network

1) The NFL is the parent company of the NFLN but I believe that the NFLN still runs as a separate entity. So it's not like the NFLN can just be granted access to the unlimited pool of money that the NFL has.

2) I don't know much about the size and other equipment needed to use HD cameras. I would assume that is it alot more troublesome. Perhaps their set doesn't really allow for it.

3) I think that from a business standpoint, it also depends on the number of people who even have NFLN let alone NFLNHD. With so many people not even having the chance to watch NFLN, it may not make alot of sense to spend the money to make the shows HD.


People always complain that things should be done "better" when a company is successful, thus having alot of money to make it happen. The problem with that line of thinking is that successful companies don't get that way by making careless decisions in terms of budget. With the NFLN, either they are waiting for a better time to do renovations to accommodate the cameras and equipment, or maybe it was determined that it wasn't a sound business decision to have them. My guess is that they will probably come sooner than later.

You must not know what HD is. Sorry but NFL Total Access is not in HD. Yeah there are 2 channels but it is still not broad casted in HD. If it were in HD then it would not have the bars on the side.

When you change your TV to the NFLHD channel 212 it still has the bars on the side unless you change your TV to wide or you zoom in. This is not HD. Yes you are getting a digital signal but not an HD signal.

Yes it is. NFL total access is on channel 212 on Direct TV. There is 2 212 channels. I have a 42 in plasma and one channel in the guide says HD and the other does not. When U swithch the channel back and forth from the HD channel to the regular channel there is a huge difference in picture becuase the HD channel is way way clearer and focused.

Yes there is a huge difference because one is getting an analog signal and one is getting a digital signal. It is still not in HD. I can't believe how many people don't know the difference. I will have to do a search on this and see if I can find you a better explanation. It's just like the ESPNHD channel. When the broadcast on ESPNHD there are bars on the side that say ESPNHD. When those bars are present it is not in HD. When the bars are gone it is HD.

It has nothing to do with Direct TV. Whatever show you are watching has to be broadcasting in HD for you to get it. At least NFL network has the channel now. You used to have to go to like channel 93 to see NFL games aired on NFL network in HD. Now you get the combine and a lot of other things in HD.

I think it is 2009 but it is for digital tv not HD. Not all digital is HD but all HD is digital. They are dropping off the old analog signals.

Isnt all cable broadcast through a cable box/satellite digital... analog is only when u have the cable going directly into your tv.... or it is just bunny ears :P

Older cable boxes are analog. Nowadays they are digital. Although you're correct in saying a direct cable line into your TV will be analog.

It's amazing how many people can't decipher HD programming from regular. Zoom view is not HD even tho it fills the whole screen. Yet I hear people all the time claiming that it is.

I don't even like the zoom or stretch views when watching non-HD programs. I'd rather watch them with the black bars on the sides.

The NFLNHD already exist as a channel it's just the HD programming that we wait for.
