View Full Version : Lot of reciever talk. Who's your top 10

dhimiter

I know, you know, the world knows we need a solid #1 reciever.

We are not trading for C. Johnson, Fitzgerald or Randy Moss.

We need to go through the draft, chances are within at least the first three rounds we draft 1, so I want to know your top 10 recievers and who you want on our team. Meaning just because someone is #1 doesn't mean he may work for us in our system.

To be honest I gotta say this group is really up in the air, I am not really confident with my own top 10, because I feel it can go anyway.
Here is my top 10 and then some.

1. Devin Thomas:Huge upside, yes only one year but potential is through the roof.
2. Desean Jackson: Fast, elusive, productive, run after the catch ability
3. malcolm Kelly: See alot of the positive Terrel Owens, recieving and routes
4. James Hardy: Big and Fast
5. Early Doucet: Everything you look for in a reciever, Torry Holt like character and all
6. Limas Sweed: Very productive, seems soft.
7. Lavelle Hawkins: Love this guy, all around sound player, a football player
8. Andre Caldwell: Clean Routes, good hands
9. Harry Douglas: My favorite player in the draft, could be the biggest steal in the later rounds.
10. Earl Bennett: Needs speed, but they said that out Jerry Rice

Others in no particular order but possible 3rd or 4th round picks:
Eddie Royal
Donnie Avery
Jerome Simpson
Adarius Dowman
Dexter Jackson
Davone Bess
Will Franklin
Mario Manningham

Desean Jackson would probably suit us best, but Early Doucet seems like the best option as a second round pick.

1. Devin Thomas - tremendous upside, added value as a KR/PR
2. Desean Jackson - instant offense, a threat to score anytime
3. Malcolm Kelly - Larry Fitzgerald like attributes
4. Limas Sweed - if you watch his highlights, he killed DBs
5. Mario Manningham - big time player, makes big plays consistently
6. James Hardy - the ultimate red zone threat
7. Early Doucet - just a flat out good football player from a big time program
8. Earl Bennett - his production over the pass three years in the SEC
9. Andre Caldwell - runs precise routes, gets YAC and played in the SEC
10. Lavelle Hawkins - KR/PR value as well, gets YAC, nice in the slot

Others in no particular order but possible 3rd or 4th round picks
Eddie Royal
Donnie Avery
Will Franklin
Keenan Burton

Maj, I'm surprised you don't like Andre Caldwell for us.

I'm not against him for us. Just don't particularly care for him. He was hard to evaluate in UF's offense the last two years, cause all they do is run Tebow, end around with Harvin, or short to Harvin. Bubba's been banged up, and the forgotten man. I just didn't get a good enough feel for him as a player in the situation he was in.

He's probably the single player I'd be least surprised to see us take in the draft. Our staff called his number to win the Senior Bowl for them and he delivered. That's exactly the type of guy Nolan loves, and it seemed like Martz really liked him too.

Some teams are looking at him to play H-Back/TE. Like what we did with Walker. He's a great blocker, and a good player...but yeah, his hands leave a lot to be desired.

Good point about his blocking. I'm not sure how well he would fair blocking on the line as a TE, but he's definitely a great downfield blocker.

2.) Malcolm Kelly - Not a huge fan but he plays like Fitzgerald.
3.) James Hardy - He'll win jump balls at the very least.
4.) Mario Manningham - Boom or bust but if he booms, watch out. Very risky pick though.
5.) DeSean Jackson - Explosive but size is a huge question.
6.) Andre Caldwell - Seems like a safe bet, solid route runner, should be a good #2.
7.) Earl Bennett - Produced at a high level for 3 years.
8.) Donnie Avery - Explosive player.
9.) Jordy Nelson - Wes Welker?
10.) Adarius Bowman - Has the size, but is he even a WR? Very high ceiling but may never improve.

I hear you, and too some extent I agree. However, I am looking specifically for a dual WR/KR threat.

The main reason is, I am still very optimistic about Jason Hill. I like him more then any WR in this draft that we will likely get at #29. I think he will be our #1 WR by the end of the upcoming season. Or at least our #2, playing like a #1. He just needs to stay healthy is all.

WRs that have KR/PR skills bring a different dimension to the position. I think it would be good for us to get one, and there are a couple of good ones in this years draft.

In my ever changing mock, I have Thomas as a possible WR at #1, but it doesn't look like he will be there. As such, I don't think we will grab one until rounds 3 and 4. Which is fine with me. I want BPA for the first 3 rounds. We have too many holes to fill, to reach for a guy.

I am thinking more and more, that we will get an OT/CB in the first round. Just because I think thats where the most likely value pick will be come draft day.

But its not because his hands suck. Either a vision or concentration thing or both. Dwayne Bowe had drop problems at LSU, and he did pretty good last year.

Won't matter since we won't draft him, we'll end up with some scrub of a smurf instead.

But he's going to be a steal for whoever does take him.

Bowe had lasic surgery before his senior year, and his catching improved that season. If Bowman has a similar issue, he'll be wise to get it corrected.

Being as how I think Bowman has knocked himself down to the 5-6th round area, he will be a steal, if he can perform well enough to make a roster.

I hear you on the KR/PR skills for the run after catch aspect.

I also was hoping Thomas would fall to us, he would be a great addition to our team, I also think after him there is a drop off and an equal calaber reciever will be available in the later rounds.

Funny you say OT/CB I am all about the Oline right now and believe we should go 1st T 2nd G unless my boy Albert is there than visa versa but than I heard about Cason and have been intreged by his abilities, we have a chance to possibly get a good corner who may fall in the first or second round, with the imergence of D. Rodgers Cromartie, Flowers and Justin King in recent weeks, players like Mike Jenkins, Cason, and even Mckelvin have been falling every corner can't be taking in the first and I believe most people do hesitate to take a corner early now adays.

The predictions of 5 possible OTs, 6 possible DE, 6 possible CB, leaves more and more open that someone is going to fall in our lap.

nt rly

Belichick personally went to USF and worked out Mike Jenkins and Trae Williams, and took them into the film room to quiz them. I'm pretty sure Jenkins will be the 1st CB off the board. It's the draft sites that fall for hype, not NFL front offices. The top 4 are still Jenkins, Cason, McK, and DRC, and they will probably be drafted near that order.

No. He is Wes Welker cause he can get quick seperation and always gets open. DeSean Jackson is more like Santonio Holmes.

I wouldn't say that puts him in a Welker mold, though. A ton of players possess many of the same qualities, but Nelson doesn't compare to Welker in much else other than his ability to separate. He's a lot bigger and plays a different game.

Welker gets in and out of cuts extremely quickly, something that Jordy doesn't excell at. However, Welker doesn't have the downfield speed that Nelson has.

I see a lot more Anquan Boldin in Nelson than I do Wes Welker.

I like Nelson but I think we need a 5'11 burner with sub 4.4 speed. Where oh where could we find a person like that? :look: OH WAIT I KNOWS A GUY!
