why not just post them all at once? doing 1 player at a time is kinda dumb IMO

no. This is my kind of doing it.

One player each day leading to the draft. This is why it's called "Draft Countdown".

Why do you have Felix Jones rated so high?

well he's the last player rated in the 1st round. So he gets my very last 1st round ticket. I think he's the 4th best RB in this draft and is right between a 1st and 2nd round grade. Bu he made my list.

I know, the whole point was why though? I don't really see what he's done as a RB to garner that consideration. He's never had more than 20 carries in a game, right? Sure he had a huge YPC this year, but keep in mind he was backing up a guy named Darren McFadden. He's got good tools, but I can't see what he's done to earn 1st rounder consideration OUTSIDE of his tools.

no prob. This is how I see it. Even experts have different opinions. I think DRC is a bit overrated. Don't get me wrong, I really like this kid, but he got overhyped toooo much after the great Senior Bowl and Pro Combine he had. I think a 1st round grade is exact the right grade but he's not top 20 IMO. Too raw...

Yeah, they are the team I am most afraid of picking him also. Luckily they can still use another DT, SS, CB, OL and LB. All I can do is cross my fingers they will pick one of them instead.

LB, CB and OL arent really needs for them.

They'll go BPA @ DE or DT.

I could see them picking LB...Mike Peterson is getting old and is injury prone. When healthy, he's still one of the best in the league, but will need to be replaced soon.

I'm hoping Phillip Merling's injury causes him to drop to Jax or they feel replacing Stroud with Balmer is more urgent than end.`

If you are doing top prospects, instead of a mock then I kinda disagree with a lot of the rankings so far. For example Albert, DRC, and Groves are all top 20 prospects.

Mock wise they might not go there, b/c of various reasons like position they play (albert LT or LG?), game film vs combine (DRC), or injury (groves), but as far as being ranked as prospects they definetly deserve to go higher. When teams check out the total package, like off the fild stuff, injuries, positions then a lot of these guys will fall in the later parts of the round, but jsut as football prospects then they all deserve to be higher imo.

I'm not seeing Groves in too many top 20 lists, which is why I think we have a shot at him at 29.

As I said - I like Albert a lot. He's the best OG on my list. And I think he will go to Pittsburgh in the first round. He's the real deal at OG. But you have too many other good OT so he should stick with OG.

I like Dan Connor, and a lot of people have us getting him at 29. I hope we dont because we could spend that pick to help the OL or Pass rush. I could be wrong, but im excited to see whats going to happen. So far we have been mentioned with guys like Groves, Hardy, Kelly, Connor, Cherilus, and even Mario Manningham.

Cason could slide to our pick because of his speed. I think he would be BPA over almost anyone else that might be available to us. He would also fit a position of need as Harris is not getting any younger and we need time to develop guys.

Well I thought that was why we drafted Brown out of Texas last year. That way we can develope him and when Harris decides to call it quits, he is there to take over. I think a CB might be the last thing we need to draft in the first or second round.

Well, if Cason is BPA, and you believe in picking BPA, then you take him. We need 3 quality CB's to play in the NFL anyway, and our pass defense last year sucked! Not all of this can be attributed to the PR.

Well I dont like the BPA for this reason. We have greater needs at OL, DL, and WR. Why would we get a CB this year when we drafted one last year? Because he is the best available? Thats like taking a LB every year because he is the best available. I think you look at the positions you need and choose the best avaiable out of those positions. So when our pick comes at 29 I think they will look at OL, DL, and WR. who ever is the best out of those three will be our first round pick.

Why do we go for BPA? Because in the long run, thats what it takes as an organization so succeed. We are not going to turn this around in one draft. If we start reaching now, we will reach next year, and the year after that. Which means overall you talent is less and less then the other teams in the league.

We need to build through the draft, and we need to build to last. We need to get into that habit of BPA and stick to it as if nothing in the world was more important. Otherwise we will be just like any other habitually losing organization!

If you wish to place higher values in certain positions, like OL/DL, then thats fine. I don't think all positions are created equal, but CB is probably the hardest position to play in football outside of the QB. If we get a top flight CB at #29, there is no way we will pass him up.

I agree... if Groves or a top RT isn't there... I hope we get Cason

Possibly, but I think his strength is outside in coverage. I'm not sure I'd put him in the 'last man' scenario.

I completely agree with you. Its really hard to find a good CB. Its a lot easier to find good players in other positions. I was just saying, if we already have few good CB's why draft another one? Brady Quinn fell from a possible #1 pick to a later pick (cant remember what #) Teams dont always pick the best available, but it can work out. Like I said befor, I would Look at OL, DL, WR, and possibly LB. If you dont think those guys will be there with your next pick, go ahead and pull the trigger on the guy.

Albert is by FAR the best OG... he's also likely the best RT prospect ahead of Cherilus... and is being projected as a possible LT now... he's a top 10 talent easily...

no way IMO. It's ok if it's your opinion but I highly doubt he'll go in the top 10.

If someone thinks he's a legit LT, he could go that high. LT is the most important position after QB in the NFL, and there is only 2 other 'natural' LTs available, so it will depend on how teams look at him compared to Clady and Williams.

majesstik1
04-09-2008, 04:08 PM
yeah but I think at the end of the day teams will ultimately pass on him, since he's still a risky pick to put top 15/ franchise LT money into, since there isn't any game film (right?) of him at the position

He played 2 1/2 games at LT this season when Monroe got injured. Apparently he did well enough in those games to make people look at him as a LT. One of the games was against a scrub school, the other was a mid tier ACC team, IIRC.

EDIT: he started at LT against Pitt and MTSU, allowing 0 sacks and 0 TFLs in them.

It's going to be interesting to see who you rate over Dorsey. They don't get much better than him as a prospect. Maybe Chris Long, but no way should anyone else be ahead of Dorsey.

maj, I'm not the biggest Dorsey fan. I know that he is a great prospect that may not come in a long time but personally I believe there are bigger prospects than him in this year's draft to be franchise players. I guess you can think of what guys I'm talkin'.

Set your DVR on ESPN Classic all this week

They're pretty much showcasing all the top prospects in re-airs.

Tennessee's Spring game is airing Tuesday. It's not Niners, but it's fresh football.

Crompton's going to be interesting to watch as a full time starter. He's shown potential before, but as a hungry back-up.

what's your take on Mike Teel?

what's your take on Mike Teel?

Still evolving, but he's on my 'watch list' for top QB prospects this year. He loses Rice, but still has 2 good WRs to throw to. Should be interesting to see how he fares with this configuration.

it's funny how a lot of RU fans have pointed to him as the issue but it seems to me like WR's dropped a lot of balls on him... I am interested in seeing how the WR's step up... I don't think the running game will suffer as long as the OL can fill in Zuttah and Sosa's spots... Anthony Davis is a great starting point

Why encourage him to finish? We should all encourage him to never start!
