The San Francisco 49ers announced Monday that WR C.J. Brewer has been waived.

Brewer was originally signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming in 2006. He spent the 2006 season on the practice squad and last season on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury during training camp.

I know this isnt big news, but what does this mean for out draft? Bringing in 1 or 2 new wide recievers? Or still go for something in free agency?

this means that the 9ers finally woke up and figured out that brewer was a waist of a jersey and cap money.

It means Jerry is taking his spot on the practice squad in light of the new challenge that is Isaac Bruce

Nothing.

Really, he was an undrafted player who never once played for the team.

At most it means the team will sign another undrafted WR after the draft.

We couldn't release him until he recovered from his injury. Now we can sign another receiver for training camp and the practice squad.

And we're getting DESean Jackson OR James Hardy anyway. Brewer=R Woods or D Hamilton or the other lackey busts for WR. We only kept him because he was injured and on IR for the year. He was going to be cut anyway, but maybe there's a rule that says an injured player can't get cut.

If you didnt think so then maybe you should have posted a reply.

Apparently some of the other people have something to say about it.

If he was on the practice squad he didn't count towards the cap.

Yes...an undrafted FA is the definition of a bust ....:thud:

:coffeespit: I don't know what Guest49er was thinking but how do you compare a undrafted WR to a bust, I mean undrafted players can't even be a bust.

Uh, let's see, D Hamilton kept hurting himself and R Woods occupied a bench or was terrible by the time he got out to the games. If that isn't a bust to you, consider yourself lucky the police haven't stopped you for driving a bad car! B Williams the 3rd round WR, cut him in 2 years for he couldn't run a KR move then 15 yards and got us crap fielding. I seriously feel our WR is in the 2nd round in DeSean or Hardy. Out of the 49er WRs, Lelie and Hill are the only ones I consider game worthy. I hope Bruce has not lost a step and B Johnson can catch/run with the ball.

This is what you wrote

Brewer=R Woods or D Hamilton or the other lackey busts for WR

That, to me (and at least one other), says CJ Brewer (an undrafted FA) was a bust on a par with Woods and Hamilton. Yes, Woods was a bust and Hamilton was an injury-induced bust.

By definition, an undrafted FA can not be a bust, only a waste of a practice squad place.

Nobody can reasonably say Brewer = Woods. Brewer = UDFA who didn't have the winning lottery ticket in his jock, it's about the same odds as him turning into a starter.
