New poster and I know this should probably be in the 08 Draft Prospects thread, but I was hoping for some more discussion. Anyways...

What do you all think about the possibility of the Niners selecting Dennis Dixon out of Oregon. I am currently a senior at Oregon so I am slightly biased, but I think he would be an excellent pickup. If anyone really watched him at UO this last year then you know the talent that he possesses.

Right now it would probably be hard to fit him in our draft plans, but if we trade down and get another 2 and either 4th or 5th round pick I think he would be worth a shot.

Some will say he doesn't fit a pro-style offense, but if you have followed the Oregon program like myself you would know his first three years at school were under a pro-style coordinator. Furthermore, other than weight I think he brings more to the table than Alex Smith who ran a similar offense in college. Dixon is faster, has an amazing arm, good accuracy, and has the most amazing leadership skills of anyone I have ever seen.

After his injury he could have just gone disappeared, but he stayed with the team, mentored the young QB's, and was the teams biggest cheerleader. And Nolan loves these kind of players i.e. Michael Robinson. I think he would be a great project for a year or two in case Smith doesn't work out because we all know Hill and O'Sullivan aren't long-term answers. And if all else fails we could give him a shot at WR.

If there is nothing else left worth taking in the 7th, then why not?

Or if all else fails, he can come and be the Indians new closer.:hoppy:

Is he in the Indians system now? I know the Braves drafted him and he was absolutely awful in rookie league play.

guys check out www.dennisdixon10.com he created this site to show NFL GM's how his rehab is coming along. I'm not really for drafting a guy that plays pimarily in the spread or shotgun since we don't use a lot of that. However after checking out some of the video on Dixon's website and reading a great article about him in SI I don't mind dropping a 4th or 6th rounder on him. I think Martz can work with this guy.

I"m a Ducks fan as well, and was hoping the 49ers would draft him. But we already have 3 QBs. I wouldn't mind using a 2nd day pick on him though. Not much to lose. He definitly does have a special quality, above and beyond just being a great athlete, he's a great leader.

Maybe in the 7th... maybe. I wouldn't use anything higher than a 7th on him.

agreed.7th round only,if not bring him in as a udfa.i dont see him picking up a nfl style offense very well.should play baseball,or swith positions if he wants to play in the nfl and not sit the bench his entire career

if he's there in the 6th, we'll get him. He probably will be gone by then tho...

We scouted him a few months back... then we showed up at Dixon's pro day, and then we invited him to our workouts. Shows me that there is some serious interest.
