View Full Version : Desean Jackson

I'm a little embarrassed to admit this but despite seeing Desean Jackson listed on everyone's Top 5 Wide Receivers coming into the draft this year, I hadn't seen any real game time footage of him.

...until now.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=YPfEkWSEhcY

Seriously, everyone's gotta watch this (my personal favorite part is at the :20 second mark). After seeing that video, I'm convinced that Jackson is this year's top receiver going into the draft. He's not a one-year wonder like Devin Thomas. He wasn't injured a la Limas Sweed. He's played pretty consistently throughout his entire collegiate career. Not to mention he is a phenomenal kickoff/punt returner.

I feel a little late to the party but this guy has got to be the real deal. If he falls to us at #29 (I know, next to impossible) we have GOT to snatch him up. I'm a little hesitant to make this comparison but he reminds me so much of Steve Smith.

:welcome2: lol, and there are even more and better highlights than those. HE IS SO FAST he can run fake routes and than run his real route in the same play. He basicaly runs two plays in one. Insane. There is also this one where he literally just runs full speed straight and completely BURNS the safety and CB, right through them and gets a TD. He has sick ability, it's not that he is fast, he has sick moves and jukes that create huge plays.

"Why did we just draft jackson with the 29 pick???"

"We just ruined our 5 year stretch of having bad WRs!"

Now we have to watch all of these highlight reels of him making ridiclous plays!!!

i think alot of niner fans would be stoked if d jax fell to us, but given his extreme talent, he most likely will be taken before we pick.

Very true that's why i highly doubt he falls to us, even though a lot of teams have more needs than just a playmaker to go in the first round. Many scouts think jackson has a bad attitude and he is immature. Also some think he will get crushed. Reasons why he could fall to us. Slim chance but you never know...

Yeah that stop and go move at :23 seconds was ridiculous. He flat out broke that guy's ankle. Hopefully he'll be there at #29. I actually wouldn't mind trading up to get him.

Well he averaged a little less than he did the year before. Regardless, he's an explosive player and has some good run after the catch ability. Looks like what I've seen of Andre Reed. I hope he falls to us.

WE still lack a deep threat, I remember when last year people kept saying we sucked cuz we didn't have speed at WR to open things up.

You can argue that bryant Johnson is a deep threat, but Desean jackson is a home run hitter. Throe a short slant pass and zoom 80 yard TD.

He is tough and plays injured, even though he missed games last season.

He is beefing up too, he is now 175 pounds, he said he put on 6 pounds since the combine. He is working hard and he is working wioth Jerry Rice to learn about the game and what you should do off the field as well as on the field.

Rice praised him, and said great things about him. He would be fun to watch .

I don't think he would be a kick returner though. Only a punt returner. He didn't do much kick retunring in College because it's easier to get injured on kick returns. But on punt returns he is a beast.

I'm worried that he may wear number 81, the player that wears that number is often talented, but gets in trouble. it's the curse (except for Brandon Williams)

lol, I am hoping Rice has taught him about off the field issues like he said he did. Who to hang with and etc...

If we could somehow get desean jackson in the first and Quentin groves in the second, I would...

I wouldn't mind him. My options that I would prefer:

1. Offensive Lineman:
Mainly a tackle since we're pretty much set on gaurds with Baas and Snyder. We don't need Jennings and we might be able to trade him for a 4th or for two average lineman.

2. Defensive Lineman:
Mainly a d.tackle because we've got our 280-290 pound speed end and our heavy set 300-320 end that takes double teams. We just need a enforcer to clog up the middle. Not a pass rusher, we can't prove other areas such as linebackers and dbacks that they were horrible due to the fact of the time they spent on the field.

3. DeSean Jackson
Now it's probable that we won't be able to pick him up. His speed and awareness is just too valuable for teams to not pick him up. Teams such as:
Jaguars, Titans, Vikings, Bills, and Ravens might be able to get him if needed

Jaguars are looking for defensive linemen snce they want a DE and a new DT to replace Marcus Stround, Titans are looking for a tall WR for Vince Young to have an easy target to (limas Sweed and Hardy), Bills are looking for a tall WR to help out new QB Trent Edwards (Malcolm Kelley) Ravens need a lot more than a WR, they need to gte young on defense maybe a corner and they also need a QB (Matt Ryan)

Dallas looks for bigger WRs like Terrel Owens and Patrick Crayton, that can run block downfield, like a Devin Thomas or Sweed or even Hardy here. They also need RB and CB.

Just saying I am starting to see how it's possible for him to fall to us.

Now the Buccaneers ar a team that could pick him up, but it looks like they could get younger on defense as well, and not only that but...

They will probaly look at WR for the second round, Andre Caldwell is mentioned in the link above.

We will see what happens, apprently the Rams are really intersted in Jackson for the second round as well, it's on NFL.com around the web section.

Montana is a state in the U.S.A.

How am i talking tough??? I'm just saying, you bring down everything. Legal drinking age? Who cares?

I am a new era of Niner fan, I'm a fan of this team, not the team of the 80s, and now hoping we become good again, i am a fan of this team with Alex Smtih, Frank Gore and etc.

I'm a true fan, I like this team and I haven't even got to see them have a winning season!!!

So STFU

Oh and to answer you Montana question for real...
Joe Montana arguably the greatest QB of NFL. Won 4 superbowls and was ridiclously accurate. He was mobile, didn't have a stong arm, but he got the job done. He always had a comeback ability, even in Notre Dame. he was small so many teams didn't like him. he was the perfect Qb for Bill Walsh's new WEst Coast offense (at the time)

"joe cool" was his nickname and he ended his career with the Kansas City Chiefs. This is off the top of my head what i know.

Titans are just looking for a capable WR not a big or tall one specifically. The Jaguars are attempting to pick up another WR since they got Porter and need more depth. The Ravens are looking for a young WR and the Bucs don't need a fast receiver since they have Joey Galloway, Michael Spurlock, Michael Clayton and big recievers like Maurice Stovall.

(my attempt at saving this thread)

I like Desean Jackson, and love that he is being "trained" by Jerry. But unless we pick him up in the 3rd, I dont' want him. Where is he gonna play, we already have 5 WR's who are alteast decent. They can get the job done. Hill has the speed and elusiveness to do what Jackson would be doing. And we just brought in Rossum to return kicks and punts. There won't be enough football's to go around.

Plus we need depth up fron, both Oline Dline and LB. I still maintain that we should draft Oline at 29 and Lofton at 39. Then back to oline in the 3rd.

You'd pass him up even if he's the BPA? We may have 5 receivers already, but I doubt they'll all be healthy during the course of the regular season. If I'm not mistaken, Martz and his offense calls for a lot of wide receiver sets. Hopefully Davis will downplay the need for a bunch of receivers.

That and our 5 wrs are very questionable and need to prove themselves.

Bruce- needs to prove he can still play at a high level even though he is old

Johnson- needs to prove he is a number 1 or 2 WR and wasn't just garbage underneath Boldin and Fitz

Battle- only Wr to be proven as reliable, but he has reached his celing and he is a number 3 or 4 WR at best

Hill- Needs to prove he was worth a third round pick and that he can actually play

Lelie- needs to prove he isn't a bust or his career could end after this season

Not looking so great, we still need to upgrade WR even though we have it all filled out now, that could change.

Yeah, lets draft another rookie who is on this list of people who needs to prove themselves.

I think if a WR drops to us that fits our system, and is the best value for us, we should take them. In terms of priorities, I think OT, OG, WOLB, NT, CB, & FS are higher priorities for this years draft. After this season, all of the questions on the WR's above will be answered.

Plus, this is not a top heavy draft for WR. This is a much better draft for OT/CB, and I would hope we grab a quality player at both positions.

I might get some heat for this but I would completely discount Isaac Bruce because he's probably only got 1-2 more seasons left in him anyway. After he retires, who do we have besides Bryant Johnson (who is still unproven, by the way)? A bunch of 2nd/3rd string receivers.

Most likely.

They will be loaded at WR...

Galloway
Bryant
Desean Jackson
Michael Clayton (he is sill decent even if he is a bust)

Garcia would have a fun day, to bad he wouldn't be able to get the ball deep the Jackson when he could be wide open.

 hmm...

Do you think they would want him, is he a west coast offense WR, he is kind of small for that, he could take some huge hits running routes in the WC offense, (short across middle, slants (with safeties about to blow up on you), and other short passes)

True. But Rice is mentoring him and Gruden knows he can enter him in the slot AND he's got that Devin Hester upside with his return ability. That will be enough for Gruden. And he's being mentored by Rice. Rice wouldn't put his name on a kid that wasn't special.
