View Full Version : Does Balmer Allow Creativity on Defense?

I think with Balmer we can have Justin Smith play alittle OLB. The Steelers thought Smith could play some OLB and this pickup could allow him to play some situation OLB.

Soap Franklin Balmer
Smith Willis Thomas Lawson

Now I know Smith is not going to be the answer to our sack issues, thats now what he is, but I think he would be good at the position in spots and in a situational role. And of course how much less effective can he be then the bum Banta-Cain?

We will have no choice, but to be creative...

I believe it will be creative. Him and Soap can play DE or NT so they will probably switch around a lot.

Laws would have been far better if that was the idea

This makes no sense. Balmer is far better than Laws.

this has been my thought too. i think this DE depth allows smith to play both positions depending on what we're doing.

Just like another poster said.... let it go.

He also tried to say that it would have been smart to draft Ted Ginn Jr. at #11 over-all last year....

Trevor Laws can be a good penetrator for a 4-3 team. There is NOTHING to suggest that he can play any position on a 3-4 front in a high level.

oh he will be.

Im mostly saying if we wanted a versatile guy that can play DE and NT in the 3-4 then we should have gone Laws. I dont think Balmer has the motor/motivation to play much NT, he could end up being a good DE in the 3-4 though.

Laws is NOT a NT at sub-300 lbs. Get over it.

Exactly what im thinkin. Maybe Smith might loose 10-15lbs and be the pass rush outside LB and Balmer plays RDE.
