i wanted to creat a thread where we could put all the draft signings and discuss what you think of their deals, and how well each one will do next year.

example. joe flacco just signed with the ravens.5 years 30 max. with 8.75 guaranteed. i think he is the starter by mid season.

Flacco may well be the Ravens' starter from the first quarter of the season; after all, it's not like he has a lot of competition. Whether or not he will be ready to start is the real question. I have heard rumblings that he has had some early troubles already...

Rotoworld really doesn't like him. I read their paragraph talking about his signing and I said out loud "Jesus dude!" because I didn't know exactly what he did to make them dislike him so much...

Let's put it this way, I already heard one RAVENS fan call him "Joke Flaccid" and the PREseason hasn't even started yet...

Why do they already dislike him? Cuz' they like Troy Smith? I know I do, and when I go on their boards they always talk about him.

The only thing I've been able to figure out for sure is that many Ravens fans didn't really want him in the first place. A lot of them wanted to make deals and move around in the draft to get Matt Ryan or Brian Brohm. I have also heard that Flacco has been less than impressive in practice so far, and that is just fuel for the fire...

He just went from a spread offense in D-II to the NFL, of course he'll struggle. But I am a bit iffy on him. I mean, he couldn't take D-I so he went to D-II?... Isn't that a no no?

That is true. Going from a spread offense in D2 to one of the most smashmouth teams in the NFL has to be a big adjustment. Add in a new HC and OC with their own ideas, and it gets even more fun...

I remember some people projecting him as a late first rounder, and I never really understood why. I have the feeling he'll end up being another Derek Smith, and I am glad we didn't take him.

That's where you are wrong. Dan Conner was a "TACKLING machine". :thisbig:

He wasn't a D-2 QB, he was D-1AA.

Whichever. He wasn't playing in the SEC, that's for sure. He would have been eaten alive...

Is there anyway you can prove this? Or is this your own assumption?

I'm a SEC homer, and I like to talk smack about college football. You figure it out.

On a more serious note, there were and still are questions about the quality of defensive play that Flacco faced in college. Those questions were talked over repeatedly in the media before and during the draft, and were part of why everyone was surprised by the Ravens reaching for him. Many people didn't think that Flacco was a first rounder at all, and many still don't.

I watched Flacco play in the playoffs, and his awareness is still in question because of the talent he faced. But there is no question about his arm, he has a rocket arm with laser accuracy.

I have to ask you, when you watched him, did he even stand out? Like he could make it in the pros?

He was a first round pick, so obviously he stood out. Unless of course is arm is an illusion.

I really liked him coming out, of course going to the right fitting team though. I think he fits the Texans well and won't be surprised to see him opening day. Excellent value and you could even say steal maybe by midseason.
