So I just watched "In their own words" on Bill Walsh. I have thought this before but this show really cemented it into my head. Their are so many similarities between the niners of the late 70's and our team today. Bill was talking about all the things that came into place to eventually get us to the superbowl, and you see a lot of those things in our team this year. He was talking about the 81 season and he mentiond that every week another part of the team would really develop and be the difference maker in the game. He talked about the young players that just stepped up and took their roles as professionals and I see a lot of those same things beginning to click. I am not predicting superbowl. but walsh went 2-14 6-10 13-3. I am just excited cause for some intangible reason Nolan inspires a lot of the same confidence that Walsh did. And I thing things are heading up.

Walsh's first year in 79 was like Nolan's first year last year. The team was so bad he also claimed players off the waiver and started them the next week.

WOW! With Master Bill Walsh "endorsing" Nolan and seeing the similarities towards a good and progressive season....means a lot. Inspiration seen from him is not necessary towards the success of our coach Nolan but hearing from Bill Walsh is something noteworthy.
That meant that Coach Nolan is getting the stamp of approval from the silver-haired genius.
GO NOLAN! GO NINERS! GO! GO! GO! :sf49:
While I don't question that Nolan getting an endorsement from Walsh is great I question if you read the original post right. What I got from it was that the poster has been thinking and seeing similarities from 1981 team and this year. I have no idea what Walsh really thinks about this team, I know he called Nolan and some reporters after the Chicago game and complimented Smith and Nolan so I am sure that means Walsh endoreses Nolan. I am thinking that this team does have big similarities to the 81 team, but I think that the players they had in 1981 wanted to prove all the oundits wrong, and thi steam doesn't seem to do that. I am interested in seeing who picks up their game and becomes the game changers.

Did you personally talk to the players that they didn't want to prove their distractors wrong? Or just petty observations from different quotes from the media?
ALL PLAYERS have their competitive agenda or they won't even last throughout the TC and Pre-season. STRESS would result out of something you don't like to do.....and WINNING, I guarantee you....is the common denominators of all players within and outside of the 49ers.
I am just saying that this team from watching the games won't turn out to be the same as the 81 team. They will of course play 110% but the Niners need to step up and make plays, the rookies did it against Chicago but now we need the starters to do that.
