Because he's the most inconsistent QB Texas has had in a while.

It's true that he struggled at times last year, but his freshman year was an all-time season for a quarterback. Texas runs a pro style offense, so McCoy is more prepared to run an NFL offense. Even last year when he struggled, he still threw 4 more touchdowns than picks and ran for another 4. So why isn't he more mentioned as a top QB prospect? Even though Texas hasn't faced very stiff competition yet, he's still looked good, with 7 touchdowns and 1 interception coming into today, and so far he's thrown 3 TD's and 0 picks in the game against Rice. If he continues to bounce back, could he be a top pick?

1.)Arm Strength--he has to prove he can through an NFL out pattern and drill it, not float it to the reciever.
2.)System--he plays in the zone read system a lot, you can't use that system in the NFL. He's played in that system since playing for his dad back in high school, too.
But, being just a 3rd year player, he could prove to have the arm strength after all, and one thing scouts really do like about him is his decision making, not depending on just one receiver all the time, with Irby out and Texas lacking any true 1st day WRs, his skill will be sorely tested, especially in conference play.
Currently, Colt is the 3rd ranked QB in the NCAA, but he's played against some pretty soft competition thus far so don't read to much into that other than he's doing what he should be doing by beating down the cupcakes(of course, Chris Sims did that, too), let's see how he does during that brutal month from Oct 11-nov 8 where he plays Oklahoma and Missouri in back to back weeks followed by Texas Tech 2 weeks later. Those are all games against high powered offenses where he will be asked to do a lot if the team is going to win.
