http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3607238
The infant son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant died Wednesday morning, coach Jon Gruden said.
Matthew Tryson Bryant apparently died in his sleep, Gruden said. The coach said he did not know any further details. The child was born June 16.
"We're shocked and very saddened by this," Gruden said.
That seriously sucks, man...

oh man, that's awful. I was so paranoid about that when my kid was that age. you make everything as safe as possible in their crib, and there is still the chance that they'll die in their sleep.

SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) is an awful disease. And we still dont know hardly anything about it.
I had an uncle who raiseda lot of money for awareness of this disease, I hope in the future maybe something good can come from this and awarenss can be stepped up to help find a cure.

I never really could imagine that happening or how bad it would feel,
but my brother was born a couple weeks ago and now I have a way better understanding on how awful that is.
There's not much you can say to someone who's going through that.
My condolences

My condolences and prayers are with Bryant's family and Cookie's cousin. SIDS is pretty common and tragic. When I was in high school I worked at a real-estate company and one of the relaltors lost a child to SIDS. The baby girl was only 5 months old.

That is horrible. My daughter is 4 months old and we got a baby monitor that also detects her breathing/movements so that if she stops motion for more than 15 seconds an alarm sounds.
I highly suggest anyone with an infant gets one of these.

While you are entitled to your own opinion on what gadgets to buy, and there are other reasons to monitor your child's breathing, SIDS deaths are not usually preventable, no matter how fast you attend to them. Just didn't want anyone to get a false sense of security with a monitor.
Condolences to the Bryant family (and yours too Cookie).

My prayers go out to his family. I can't imagine their pain right now. :(
Sorry to hear about your cousin's kid, Cookie. Thoughts and prayers for your family, man.
I'm a SIDS survivor from about that age (11 months). My aunt happened to walk in the room apparently in the middle of it. I guess I was totally cyanotic and barely breathing. Ended up going through three spinal taps at Stanford while the docs worked it out, and they eventually said it was everything they'd seen with crib death cases, except I just didn't die (obviously). Needless to say my parents barely let me out of their sight for... well, hell, they're still really protective and I'm friggin' 32.

Any shot at saving your infants life is worth the small cost, but I understand what your saying.

No I totally understand what you're saying too, and that's a great story. Having worked as an EMT I have plenty of stories about kids who literally stopped breathing in their parents arms and had CPR administered (correctly) within seconds, with no positive results.
