You know, the player or coach you hated while they were playing or coaching, but have since retired and are now doing TV or radio, and now you like them.
For me,
Michael Irvin - Hated this guy with the Cowboys. When he retired and worked with ESPN I actually grew to like his intense and exciting delivery. He had some great moments on radio as well with Dan Patrick.
Mike Ditka - Never liked the Bears of Ditka. But now he's entertaining as hell on TV, sounding like an old man who's lost his marbles but still wants to be involved.
Emmit Smith - Won't say I like him in the studio, but he's now tolerable and he works well with Steve Young.
There's more that deserve honorable mention, like Shannon Sharp and Kewshawn Johnson.

Emmitt is kinda boring to me, but I like the other guys for the reason's you mentioned.
Anybody who doesn't like Michael Irvin probably still holds a Cowboys' grudge or can't handle the truth, because he will tell it like it is. And he is much more intelligent than people give him credit for.
Me ? The guy I like in the studio who I HATED as a player is... Trent Dilfer.
I can't forgive him for the horrible performance he had last year, but it was Nolan's fault for ever even putting him in the position to play for us.
However, Dilfer is very smart, articulate, and know's what he is talking about.
Listening to him speak, you might even think he could still play...

Jesse Palmer - He's much better in the studio as opposed to being on The Bachelor, the 49ers, the Giants or the Florida Gators.

Or we just don't think he's very good in the studio. He was fired for a reason. To each his own though.
He was fired over controversal remarks I think. Either that or out of fear he would one day drop a huge bomb that the network didn't want to have to cash. I know he wasn't fired for just not being good.

Troy Aikman-cuz he was a cowboy but is very unbiased
Mike Irvin- still hate cuz he wants to say cowboys whenever he has the chance
note: hate kornheiser regardless of played or not

Speaking of Ditka, this clip of him is hilarious:

I liked Marshall Faulk as a player but he is annoying on NFLN. His stupid smile makes me want to peel his face off.

I never held those performances against Dilfer. He wasn't expected to do much and actually gave me more hope than Alex ever did.
I agree he's very smart on football. He could be a coach or coordinator.

Strictly a matter of opinion whether you think someone is a good in the studio or not...
...but he was not fired because of that.
I believe Jumiah beat me to the punch on that explanation.
Michael Irvin is a controversial individual, and with people like that, you either love 'em or hate 'em regardless of what they say.
Somebody like Michael Irvin is gonna have his comments' nit-picked a lot more than, say, Terry Bradshaw (just using him as an example, because he has good PR).

I agree 100% here.
Awesome football player, but the dude is a freakin' geek that was blessed with absurd athletic ability.
And he has the smirk of a pedophile.

Yes, he is way to annoying. If I saw him in real life I'd probably avoid him so I wouldn't get pissed off.

Troy Aikman (though he's not actually in the studio). He's the best football commentator Fox has. It's a shame he's paired with Joe Buck, who doesn't have a clue.

Well, being as how Deion Sanders and Marshall Faulk were long time rivals, I developed a respectful dislike for each of them as foes, but I actually enjoy listening to them call a game together. They're both fresh out of the game and have commentary that is very relevant to the current NFL.
Troy Aikman is another guy I think does a great job calling games.

Trent Dilfer is a good analysis.
Thank god Shawn Salisbury isnt on the air anymore. Also Eddie George is pretty good on a fox sports football show. PFP I think.....

I totally agree. He seems like such a nerd when he talks. When I first heard him talk on NFLN, I was like "This how the great Marshall Faulk sounds and looks. WTF!?" because he seemed so... lame? Haha.
I liked Marshall Faulk as a player but he is annoying on NFLN. His stupid smile makes me want to peel his face off.
I completely agree. Did you hear him yesterday on Total Access when him and TD (Who is a one of the best on the channel!) were talking about rookie QBs? He said Joe Flacco was the most impressive and beat other QBs like Carson Palmer and Derek Anderson and then TD got all frustrated because it was so stupid. He's all like "YOU DON'T PLAY THE QBS! YOU PLAY THE DEFENSE!"
And then Marshall said, "Well, you know, we played other RBs!"
"No! We played the defenses!"

I agree about Joe Buck. Troy does a good job calling games. But Joe is annoying and says stupid things during games.

I've always like him, but Strahan is the man.
yeah, except now hes with some of the biggest idiots on the planet. howie and jimmy are alright by themselves, but when they get together with the biggest dumb@$$ ever, aka terry bradshaw, the 3 are impossible to tolerate.

It is. Even though I hate Howie.
He is the biggest ship jumping bandwagon *** kisser on television. You should meet Howie's son Kyle.
Troy Aikman was the worst as a player, but he's by far my favorite color guy. Great analysis, never afraid to call anyone out for bad play calling, lazy/dumb playing, poor coaching in general, etc.
Strahan's been good so far as well, but that's not a surprise.

I used to like Howie Long when he was a player. I actully met him once in Tahoe when I was a kid and he seemed pretty cool. As he has gotten older and on TV longer, he has pretty much become a jerk.

Uh your a Redskins fan and like Troy Aikman?:headhurts: Troy Aikman was a Cowboy and really seems to like the Redskins- Portis is one of his favorite backs in the league, Moss is one of his favorite deep threats, he really loved Sean Taylor, and he always seemed to have a hard-on for Joe Gibbs...although Troy usually would get our games in December where we'd be on a winning streak, not our crappy games in November...

Michael Irvin was the embodiment of everything I hate about the Cowboys when he played. However, he knew the finer points of the game as an analyst. I was quite surprised.

I hated Deion Sanders with a passion but when he joined the Redskins and Ravens and worked for CBS I reduced the hate but whenever he brings up the Cowboys the old feelings come back.

I think jesse palmer was a better player... he has a spot on Sports center in canada as "the monday morning quarterback" or something like that and he is horrible... all he does is sit there and state the obvious and then at the end he tries to look smart by comming up with some random upset pick that never pans out.

For me,
Michael Irvin - Hated this guy with the Cowboys.
Not many, actually. Moose Johnson comes to mind. Shannon Sharpe is a good pick. I like Trent Dilfer. Strahan is really surprising me. I like Jim Mora. I like Jackson on ESPN, don't like Young.
Can't stand Howie Long, his head is too big now. He's the Fox pregame equivalent of Madden -- a lot of cliches and nothing. Emmit Smith makes me puke, as does Michael Irvin. Ditka needs to retire. Tiki Barber sucks, is he still on?
Sanders is love-hate. Sometimes he's great, other times he sucks.
Jamie Dukes is entertaining in a "what the hell is wrong with him" sort of way.
