Normally, I'd ask, "Why?" but intelligence seems to be in short supply on that side of the bay -- a trickle down effect from the ownership, apparently -- so why bother questioning it?

(P.S. The attempt failed. I know, it's shocking, but it did fail.)

Raiders gotta try scoring somehow.
Though it was a 76 yard field goal, it was probably their best shot.

Well Janikowski has a huge leg. He looked like get got enough of it for a few seconds there lol. Kiffin actually isn't that bad of a HC IMO. Considering the state of that team, their lack of talent, and all the other problems, the Raiders have been in some games they shouldnt have been in this year. He's basically been trying to get fired since the end of last year. I think that was one of those **** it instances and he just wanted to see if Seabass could kick it that far.

Watching SportsCenter as it is, so I hit the rewind button on the DVR and double-checked it.

He kicked it from right in the middle of the hash marks. It sailed about five yards wide right in terms of accuracy, and in terms of length, it was fielded at the San Diego 2.

San Diego tried a return, but got nothing major as Cromartie was stopped at the San Diego 28 after a 26-yard return. And I forgot to mention that this was attempted at the end of the first half, so once San Diego's return attempt was thwarted, the half ended.

Well, if you're threatened with being fired week in and week out...why the hell not?

yup exactly what I got from it

thats awful. Janikowski sucks. his leg is so overrated IMO.

on a side-note, did SD have anyone back there to return the short kick? it makes sense that they would.

Check my reply to your last question. I had exact details.

The call for the 76 yard FG attempt was Lane kiffen's way of saying "fire me now Al".

thanks for the details.

i will say i'd rather have a coach taking this type of risk over the guy we have. Nolans idea of risk is challenging a 6 play to try and gain a few meaningless yards.

I just read about that in "the morning buzz" and was like... what were you thinking? Six yards is not worth risking a time out, or worse, running out of challanges late when two close big plays happen...

They should have spiked it and ran one more play. I guess it's like a hail mary but as long as you dont give up a TD on the return it doesn't hurt. You guys remember Vashers return against us on Nedneys 50 yarder into the wind. That ended up in 7 before the half so it can backfire.

what made that drive so dumb was that there was PLENTY of time for them to not only get in FG range but even attempt to score.

They tried it because he tried to do the same thing in college. He tried to kick like a 75 yarder and it went wide right with yards to spare. He has got a beast of a leg and i guess they said what the hell. Imagine the record field goal being 76 yards. I got friends who can't hit a golf ball that far...

He has the strongest leg in the league, if any one could do it at that elevation he could.

Put that game in Mexico city or Denver and it has a good chance of going in.

Given time was about to expire, I say why not.

Of course, it would be a dumb move if there was any time on the clock, since it would give the opposing team excellent field position, but considering there was no down side, and 76 yard hail marry pass was the only other option, I don't see it has being particularly dumb idea.

There was a playmaker ready to return it and your kicking team isn't the best tacklers. If anything, i would have had Russel just throw it deep.

But they let about 25 seconds off the clock then called a time out to kick it. Why not throw one more pass and make it a reasonable 60 yard kick?

It was a **** funny thing to watch though. :drive:

Whats the longest field goal made in NFL history?

They do have a lack of talent. Their safeties are terrible. No WR's. No Oline. Interior Defensive line isn't very good. Pretty crappy depth at most positions as well.

It was funny watching this 76 yard attempt live and earlier hearing from the commentators in the Denver game that Praeter was kicking 70-yarders at a scrimmage at Invesco Field with a bunch of people witnessing it.

We may see a new field goal record before the year is over!

It really wasn't a bad play, 40 net yards field position which was just as good as a punt. And, more importantly, it tweaked Davis so he will be fired from that Hell Hole and he'll have good grounds to sue the cheap, contract-breaking ******* and win.

Why would field position matter if it's at the end of the half?

Backfield penetration.
