I heard it on Mike & Mike, but if you turn it to ESPN NEWS it's "breaking news" on the bottom of the screen.
Chris Mortenson reports it.

That was foreseeable. The last week was an obvious desperate last attempt.

So not even a 76-yard FG attempt can get you fired first?
Poor Lane Kiffin...

Wonder if Jim Haslett can make any sort of difference. I also wonder if he'll start Marc Bulger next week.

Good news for the Rams.
Not so good for us, since their ineptness was one of things we had going for us.
Linehan really signed his own death warrant when he benched Bulger and rumors of trading Tory Holt started to circulate.

Doubtful he'll make a huge difference, but I bet he will start Bulger.

I like Jim Haslett a lot. He did lots of good for the Saints. I even got my picture taken with him.
Although I believe some of the stuff he did in New Orleans should have been credited to Mike Ditka.

Yeah lets fire a coach with a 2-2 record after 4 games, that will solve all our problems.

Well you could make the argument that the Rams are attempting to improve while the 49ers continue to "stay the course"

If we take a look at Nolan with the 49ers for a minute. His first season 4-12 he inherited a terrible team that could have easily gone 0-16 a nice little 2 game run filled the players with confidence going into the spring.
The next season we went 7-9 and alot of people were on his and Alex's jock.
Then there was last year horrible in every sense of the word, everything went wrong. Sure Nolan got it wrong handling the Alex situation, you can't really blame him for the OC situation, which was the main reason for last year's catastrophe.
This year 2-2 and we look better than last year by a long way. Firing him now would be pointless he deserves this season as his last shot. He has the respect of the majority of the locker room only exception being VD probably, so that wouldn't be good for team morale. Remember the last person who didn't get along with Nolan totally Kevan Barlow where is he at now?

So you believe a Nolan-lead team has the potential to go places? We haven't made the playoffs since 2002, and people here are acting as if a .500 record is acceptable. Come on buddy. :friends:
I know Giants fans were ready to axe Coughlan last year and then the unthinkable happened. I would be happy to eat crow and start Rollin with Nolan if he took us to the playoffs and showed REAL leadership. Instead I get the image of a coach that doesn't have a clue what is going on.

The thing is, though, firing a coach mid-season doesn't seem to ever really help. It does seem to create this weird lame-duck/successor issue though. Especially if they recover a bit and win a few games.
But to each his own. It's not I've seen it make a truly significant difference in either case.

and 4-12 is better than 3-13
My point is that Nolan is not the answer and with him as our coach, I think going to the playoffs is a long shot, even in the weakest division in the NFL.

And replace him with who? Mike Singletary?
If we're 2-6 by the BYE, I say we do it.

I think once at a birthday party he was making balloon animals while there was a football game on in the background. So he has Nolan beat 10 fold

That's also true. Firing a head coach mid-season may be nothing more than a PR issue, but it does at least make the team look like they are trying to improve.
I do want Nolan gone, and I honestly don't care who they get mid-season to replace him as long as next year a good coach comes in to lead the charge.
Of course I was quite ticked (and still am) at the FO for firing Mariucci in 2002. 10 wins + playoff appearance + playoff win= Head Coach fired? I never understood that math.
It was just the FO on a power trip, ya know?

A .500 record is acceptable at this stage of the season. I don't know whether a Nolan team has the potential to go places, I'll tell you at season end.
Also whatever Nolan's leadership qualities, a team that has Mike Martz coaching and motivating Offense and Mike Singletary helping your defensive side of the ball isn't going to be low on leadership.

I hope you're right. I will jump on the Nolan bandwagon if he takes us deep into the Playoffs. Not just an easy Playoff appearance due to a weak division. I mean NFC Title game or Superbowl.

If we won our division Nolan would be safe from the York's axe I think. NFC Div round would be a good season in my book. We have to win v NE though, can you imagine how the laugh at New England thread would explode lol.

His offenses have stunk in STL and his offense stunk in his 1 year stint in MIA. So much for him being one of the best offensive coordinators in the league.

I don't think it's realistic to expect a deep playoff run from a team that finished 5-11 the year before, and hasn't been at .500 for a while.
I wouldn't necessarily want to keep him if we finish 8-8... but we should be very grateful for a playoff berth, regardless of how it comes.

That's pretty much my point though. Nolan has done nothing for the team, really. This team hasn't done damage since the firing of Mariucci.
