Even though Lane Kiffin remained head coach of the Oakland Raiders long enough to meet with the Bay Area media Monday, the process of replacing him has begun.

According to a source, Raiders owner Al Davis scheduled one-hour meetings Monday evening with three members of the coaching staff -- offensive coordinator Greg Knapp, offensive line coach Tom Cable and longtime NFL offensive coordinator and current Raiders consultant Paul Hackett. The meetings, according to the source, were to discuss the possibility of replacing Kiffin, who has yet to be informed of any potential change.

I wonder how much Kiffin gets if he gets fired? Because that's the only reason I can think of as to why he is staying put.

I mean, it sucks to just walk out on a team and be called a "quitter", but I don't think anyone -- not even the Oakland players -- would blame him in this case, given that the owner is a senile buffoon for doing these stupid tactics to begin with. But if there's a huge payday for being "fired", then I guess why not stay?

Maybe next week, we'll see an 80-yard FG attempted. :laugh:

What gets me is Al calls Kiffen a "bold face liar..fired for cause"..Al blamed Kiffen for trading R. Moss for a 4th rounder (Cmon...There's no way Kiffen could have made that trade without Al's knowledge..I mean Kiffen tried to get rid of R. Ryan and Al wouldn't let him..Does anyone think that Kiffen made the Moss trade by himself?) Then Al denied sending Kiffen a resignation letter in off season; one of the many things Al said Kiffen "lied" about..

Al IS NOT paying the rest of Kiffen's contract; I thought I heard on news conf. that the Faiders will not stand in the way of Kiffen getting another job right away (Syracuse?) Goddell will have last say on that..What I found funny was Al's quote when asked why he didn't defend himself in the media, "I don't want to win in the press, I want to win on the field."
