Ok guys so Im looking to buy a Jersey for good ole VD but Im really only trying to spend a hundred bucks or so. While Im not a big fan of the replica stuff, Im wondering if buying one of those so-called "authentic" on-field jerseys off Ebay is a good idea. They look of good quality and are fairly cheap. Feedback on Ebay seems to be good on them. Opinions or ideas?

After reading this thread I decided to check out these jerseys on ebay. I'm still a little pissed that I missed the friends and family deal with Reebok. Anyways after doing a little research the jerseys on ebay ARE NOT authentic. If you currently own a authentic jersey purchased from the nfl shop or any place like that pull it out and study it. The first thing that you will notice is the sleaves on the ones on ebay have a actual sf patch on each sleeve. The real authentics only have the sf blended into the mesh. Secondly authentic jerseys are mesh all the way to the collar. The so called authentic jerseys on ebay stop being mesh right above the chest line. Then from the chest line and above they look like they are made from this satin material. Lastly the last give away that they arent authentic is that the prices on ebay are way too cheap. $99 for 2 VD jerseys (home & away). C'mon
Well thats my 2 cents. The jerseys on ebay are great if you dont care if they are authentic or not.

I got one of the EQT jerseys for Alex off NFL.com for $99. I know it's not authentic, but the stitched numbers are awfully nice. I'm happy with it. I don't think they have them for Davis yet, but surely they will at some point.

Hmmmm Interesting, but not always the case. Shops close down, merchandise gets sold off. I have official replica jerseys from NFL.com and from E-bay. I can tell you right now both types are IDENTICAL. So yea people who just jump on and don't know what they are doing, like all the suckers who bought a picture of an XBOX for $300 when it first came out because they didn't read the fine print, there are no doubt fakes, lnock-offs etc. that people are getting "great prices" but if you pay attention deals are out there.
Trust me, I get them everyday on E-Bay.
I've gotten a few from eBay. Most of the ones they call "authentic" are the Premiere EQTs that you can get from NFL Shop for $99. They look about 20x better than the replicas.
Just stay away from the "Century" jerseys, which are a**. Overseas knockoffs.

I understand you take but you are getting confused. Replica does not equal authentic. I havent seen not one authentic jersey on ebay for a great deal. But tons of replicas for $99 or less. I just want people to be fully aware before they invest their hard earned money.

I'll put it this way, If your going to wear it, almost any e bay jesey w/stitched on numbers is way better than the iron-on number crap they sell at the game for $ 100.
Oh and $7.75 for a beer? or $4,50 for a water? and a whole quarter of the game wasted standing in line for a burger? Theifs.

On the beer price it would not suprise me if the City of San Francisco has a tap fee for each keg. I have done things on fairgrounds and the fair board has a tap fee for each keg. The minute you pull the seal you pay them $200. That was back in 1994. So right off the start you need $260 to pay for one keg that you paid $60 for. I can only guess what the City of San Francisco would want in 2006. I would bet that they have a nice tap fee of close to $1000 a keg.

I've bought both Reebok replica and so-called authentic jerseys off ebay. The replicas do appear to be real deal Reebok, and the price you pay reflects that. The authentics definately aren't, although they do look really good. I would take one of those over a Reebok replica anyday.
Here's a discussion on the ebay forums about fake jerseys:

I just bought one of those knockoff VD jersey's from Ebay. I knew it was a knockoff before I bought it as nobody should expect to pay ridiculously low prices for these jerseys and expect them to be legit.
The only thing I was worried about was whether it would come at all as some buyers complained about not getting their jerseys.
The thing is, I'm also going to buy a VD Authentic, but I just wanted a "cheap one" to mess around in and not have to worry about "taking care" of it. I was gonna buy a replica, but when I saw I could get a jersey a little nicer than a replica for a cheaper price, I thought why not?
Also looked at the fake jersey thread on ebay. LOTS of angry people there, LOL. Can you blame people for buying knockoffs when a shirt with numbers and logos on it sells for $240?

Tell me about it, in one offseason my Carter and Peterson jerseys became obsolete. I'm glad I didn't buy a BLloyd jersey either.

i have an unrelated question: what happened to the 49er shirt in my avatar?
they were selling them on the main website's shop, but now they only have plainer, uglier shirts.
i loved that faithful tee in my avatar, and i was gonna buy it, but now i can't find it.

My apologies, I thought this was about replica jerseys not same as worn by the palyers authentic. I would never buy those except for HOF or should be HOF players of Niners past.
I'm sorry but $300 dollars for a jersey that doesn't have Rice, Montana, Young, Lott, etc. on it is way too much in this day and age of FA.

At least now you can have an authentic custom made, but its gonna be in the new style - so a custom authentic "Sapolu" jersey would look wierd.
I wonder if its possible to have custom throwbacks made. I REALLY want a Tom Rathman throwback. Maybe Ricky Waters, too.
Oh man, I just went to the Mitchell & Ness throwback website and they have Charles Haley's now!!!
