I am not sure if this has been posted already. If it is, who gives a fak. I dont have time to find the thread. Anyway, im sure you guys have seen the video of the controversy hit from a referee to a South Carolina QB. I dont know why it's a controversy when it is obvious that the referee is actually squaring up and hit the QB. Well judge for yourself. I just dont know how you can say it is not a premeditated hit. Maybe you're an SEC fan or something or a Luisiana Fan but eaither way, this shows that sports now a days can be very suspect in terms of referee getting involved of changing games.

SEC is overrated, they use the officials to keep the games close and make it look like everyone is a quality team. haha

honestly, has the dude been fired yet?

Wow, that has to be the most uninformed drivel I have heard in a while. The SEC teams don't look good because the games are close. The teams look good because of their rosters as well as how they do outside the conference.

Having watched the game, at the time it just looked like he was in the way.

From that angle though, it looks like he got some body behind it.

I didn't know we had a 12th man on the road.

ETA: Realistically doesn't matter. It probably was a mistake but it does admittedly look suspicious. The only thing is there are about 500 other more effective ways to fix a game. Curtis Taylor would have wrapped that guy up anyway right there, so it's not like the ref gave anyone an advantage. I would also think that if he were a corrupt ref, he wouldn't have made it as obvious as that on such an unimportant play. All he would have to do would be to call holding or something. Running into the guy doesn't exactly look as innocent as a flag, so if he was trying to hide the fact that he was fixing the game he failed miserably.

Well even if it doesnt changed the game or what not with that one play, the Referee should not ever EVER hit a player. Yea he can get away from a play and if he gets hit, he can brace himself or what not but its obvious that he is trying to hit the QB. I dont know the motivation behind that funny but yet stupid play by the ref but it shouldn't happen. Its funny how ESPN glazed over it like it never happened. They dont even make a big deal about it. I think its a big deal. This is the first time I ever seen a Ref trying to tackle a player or knock a player down. I think it can damage the game if you see a ref actually do that even if he wasn't helpin the opposing team. Maybe he got it in for the QB in terms of personal reason? There's got to be a reason why he does that. ESPN needs to find out more about this situation not just glazed over it like nothing happen. I know they're in love with the SEC or what not but I believe this is the biggest story during the college football weekend. Not Texas being number 1 or what not. And please dont give me this mistake crap. How can a person mistakenly hit or tackle a player? I know you're an LSU fan so you say those stuff but please, be real here.

This guy needs to be suspended.

Weren't they at the 10 yd line or something?

I didnt watch the game so Im not sure if they scored or not on that drive, but how can a referee lower a shoulder and tackle someone for the defense?

Garcia had a good 4-5 yards before getting decked but someone who shouldve move out of the way..

how messed up.

It may honestly have been a mistake, we don't know...maybe he lost his balance and fell into the guy. I'm confident that the SEC will investigate it. We'll find out eventually. Honestly it doesn't matter to me, it might as well have been with another team. It is peculiar though, and I would like it looked into...but let's wait and see.

ETA: The SEC and Spurrier have already cleared him. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3654428

"He was trying to get out of the way," Spurrier said of Hackett, according to The State in Columbia, S.C. "Stephen sort of cut back right into him. Sometimes that will happen."

I think it's funny that he played LB at Kentucky. Makes sense.

Yeah, I mean, how could anyone on an internet message board miss the changes in tone of voice and facial expression which usually denote sarcasm?

Jmichura, I hope your palm is planted squarely in your face right now.
