I just now realized that he only played for 8 seasons. I was only about 9 years old when he retired, did he just retire? Or did he get injured or something happen that I dont know about. He was one of my favorite players and I still argue with my friends about how good he was.

John Taylor had a trucking business back East somewhere.
There comes a time when players just have to leave football--especially due to repeated injuries, though I'm not sure that is true of John.
A year or two ago, I saw John at an autograph signing at the Fan Club. He looked great and I enjoyed chatting with him.
I think I heard he is around in the Bay Area, but I'm not sure. Don't quote me on that...

I don't remember the circumstances of him leaving the Niners.....good question. JT was a stud! He won us a Super Bowl along with Joe and Jerry! I, too, had the pleasure of meeting him at that Fan Club autograpgh signing.
There was nothing wrong with Taylor. He simply chose to retire after the 1994 season. That was a big reason why the Niners traded up to draft JJ Stokes in 1995.
Not every player chooses to play football as long as they can still get around without a wheelchair. Barry Sanders quit when he still had some years left. Jim Brown called it quits after 9 years. It's not that unusual.

Where did you get this exerpt from? It doesn't sound entirely realistic.
You should provide a link. In fact, that is board policy.

This is where it came from

Thank you. However, the story is factually incorrect. Taylor was drafted and played his first season in 1986 - not 1987. Also, the comment that Wikipedia states that Taylor drives for a trucking firm does not exist in the Wikipedia bio.
Taylor did in fact work at Reggie Jackson's car dealership, even for a few years after he became a pro football player.

This was further down on the page from the link I provided.
Post-retirement:
Taylor now drives for a trucking company and leads a pretty quiet life off the field. His only moments in any sort of spotlight come when he's participating in celebrity golf events, such as ones sponsored by his alma mater, Delaware State.

Ok, I didn't see that. But Wikipedia's facts are still in question.

You all are wrong as to what John is and where he is at do you talk to him on a regular basis ? No! Well I do ! I know who where why and when. so my post is factually correct and I repeat John OWNS HIS TRUCKING BUSINESS AND HE DOES LIVE IN CLOVIS BY FRESNO. Besides why does it matter? He does events with me and I set up his deals. He is on the road driving his truck every week. He loves driving coast to coast. In fact you may drive by him someday and not even know the super bowl hero is truckin by... Unless you have his cell number and talk to him all of the guesses are incorrect.
Not trying to argue or disagree,I just provided a link that had info. I accept yours as factual. I was just trying to be helpful. Glad John is happy.
I will always wonder that if Taylor hadn't retired, would we have the elusive 6th SB ring?

Remember Wikipedia is filled out by users like you and I. There is a ton of information on Wikipedia that is factually incorrect, but b/c this site is open to anyone to submit info, i rarely trust wikipedia when it comes to bio's...
