I copied this over from the old boards where I was Kmwpup....Its beauty can not be lost....
This is an optimistic draft, but in the realm of reality. You'll notice only one 7th rounder because to make the draft work we might have to package the other 2 and maybe a late round 2007 pick.
st - Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland – I don’t really need to say anything do I?
st – Manny Lawson, DE/OLB, NC State – This pick really depends on which OLB drops to this spot. Bobby Carpenter and Kamerion Wimbley are also very tempting choices here If they fall. I’m tending to lean towards a guy like Lawson because of his tremendous pass rush ability and that’s what we need most. He certainly has the athletic ability to excel at the OLB position and hopefully he can make the transition as smoothly as Shawn Merriman did. Any of the guys I mentioned would be solid picks here.
rd- Pat Watkins, S, Florida St. – Amazing height at nearly 6’5”, but still has the speed, hips and awareness play FS. He is lanky now, but has the frame to pack on some pounds and become real solid. He will be able to jump with any receiver and make the big plays. Fills a big need. Another good FS that could be picked up here is possibly Roman Harper, if either one of these two falls to us in the 3rd we should snap them up.
th- Chris Gocong, DE/OLB, Cal-Poly – High motor undersized DE who dominated division 1-AA, He will have to adjust to playing OLB in the 3-4 scheme. He is no longer a secret and could be gone before this point, May need to move back up into the late 3rd to get him. Other DE/LB’s to consider: Ryan LaCasse, Stanley McClover, and Parys Haralson.
th- Will Blackmon, CB, Boston College – CB with the size, speed, and instincts that Nolan loves. May need time to develop, but could fight for a starting spot this year or next. Will make an immediate special teams impact. Might have to Package a 7th with our 5th to move back into the 4th to nab him.
th- Jason Hatcher, DE/DT, Grambling St. – A true DE who has the size to play the 3-4 and can generate a pass rush, but still be stout against the run. A good developmental project to groom behind BY.
th- Marques Colston, WR Hofstra – How often do I get to draft a guy from my old college? Hofstra! He is a big target at almost 6’5” and has good speed to go along with it. We’ll need another developmental guy with Woods gone.
th- Will Derting, ILB/OLB, Washington State – A little short and has an injury concern with a torn ACL, but at 247lbs is no small guy. A “Nolan guy” with good instincts and speed. Boom or Bust prospect which is what you want in the 7th.
