nnamdi asomugha=Shut Down on any Wide Reciever in the NFL
Nate Clements could probably shut down most #2 recievers.
nnamdi asomugha + Nate Clements= Profit.

I don't know. If we were to judge our "needs" based off of last night, I'd say our secondary has become our greatest need.

After this season it will be....Walt Harris has gotta be done & can't cover #2 receivers anymore....So we'll have Tarell Brown as a starter? Reggie Smith? No, I think aside from QB & D-line, secondary is right up there....And this guy as an absolute stud....I'd love to have him cross the bay!!!!

Yes and no...if we had a second corner of his caliber it would free up safety help for run protection and blitzing. Which would then allow fewer double teams on the d-line to account for the blitzing backers and safeties. Just a thought.

No way the Raiders let him go. He's part of the reason Oakland released Hall.

well he's a free agent after this year, knowing al davis tho, he will completley over pay him...if that's possible, This guy deserves soooo much money.

Walt Harris at any point in his career was nowhere close to being nearly as good as Nnamdi Asomugha, sorry. With that said, work on the pass rush before you start overloading an already solid secondary.
exactly what I think

Yea, with all that pressure we put on warner, how could they not cover for 10 seconds

Scotty Mac should really be tempted. Bringing N.A in would benefit our secondary for a long time. But realistically CB ir not our major need.

I would be really pissed. It's nowhere near our biggest need, and free agency should be used to fill needs so we don't have to reach in the draft. We don't need Asomugha, we need Jordan Gross.

I wouldn't mind...but we still need a stud on the O-Line and an actual semi-effective pass rush first.

Wow. This is just a stupid post. Nnamdi Asomugha in High School > Walt Harris in his prime. Nnamdi Asomugha is easily the best pure coverage man in the league.
And Chad Johnson is no where near as good as he thinks he is. Can anybody say Baby TO?

Nnamdi wont stay in Oakland, hes been offered a contract many many times, he'll find a way to get out of Oakland. He knows his career will be dead if he stays there... lets just hope he doesnt go to one of the better teams next year... like NE or Tennessee or... god forbid Baltimore.. if he goes to Baltimore, they may be the best defensive team in the league...

Why does everyone want to bring over Nnamdi? Does he have a hidding talent at DE, NT, or better yet QB for which is the reason to sign him?
FAIL FOR NOT KNOWING THAT HES THE BEST NT IN THE LEAGUE!

In that case, I'll give you 99 billion for Asomugha. Like the Raiders players, I'll go recruiting some cash to bring Nnamdi to the Niners. Luckily, Uncle Al is my great-great-great uncle so half the cash is set for Nnamdi. YAY YAY.
How much you putting in to sign him Vivek? I'll put you down for 5.5 billion dollars.

The media would have a field day with that one. Two cornerbacks with $80+ million contracts.

our secondary is not that solid we give up way to many big plays....
Our Needs in the Offseason are both sides of the line, an replacement for w.harris, and a veteren qb to replace alex and jto

Apparently you saw a pass rush?
I saw Justin Smith get pushed out of the pocket several times, but at least he was making an effort.
that was the closest thing I saw to a pass rush, tell me, why could their lineman push him outside and beyond the pocket, while our lineman simply fell backwards and allowed the Cards to collapse the pocket?
Are they unaware of those techniques in SF? You know, to take advantage of speed rushers by pushing them beyond the pocket?
and a big NO to the original question asked.

No Thanks, Pass Rush & NT are bigger needs. Our Secondary will suffer if the QB has all day to through.

Nnamdi Asomugha + Nate Clements + no pass rush = wow, we still suck, and we've committed 25% of our cap to 2 cornerbacks.
That is all.

You're thinking reactionally. Our biggest need was secondary on Monday night because we had to deal with Kurt Warner + Baldin + Fitzgerald. If we had played the Titans or Redskins, you would say our D-line/LB's would be our biggest "needs" because they would run all over us.

After the Alex Smith contract restructure and m.rob's contract loophole, we'd have one of the largest cap rooms in the league. To only attack immediate needs and not take advantage of clearing up future problems is stupid. If the opportunity is there, take it.
As far as Asomugha is concerned, i remember watching him on nfl network after the Kiffen firing. He is one of the most well spoken, intelligent football players i've ever seen. That guy got his bank in Oakland and will never go back. He knows the Raiders will never amount to anything.
If Haynesworth decides to stay in Tennessee, i wouldnt be against shelling out a little bit of money for this guy. Really, he's proly gonna pick the place that gives him the best chance at a championship, but having Singletary as the head coach can't hurt.
Having that corner tandum, assuming the Niners pick up a stud NT as well would allow so many players room to make plays. Even Manusky would feel comfortable blitzing his brains out.
Walt Harris at any point in his career was nowhere close to being nearly as good as Nnamdi Asomugha, sorry. With that said, work on the pass rush before you start overloading an already solid secondary.
Actually I disagree. Asomugha wasn't always stellar. Especially during his first couple of seasons in the league. If you were to say that Walt Harris was never anywhere as good at any point during his career as Asomugha is now, then I'd probably agree.
As to the topic on hand, I wouldn't go after him. The 49ers have much bigger concerns on the defense than their secondary...notably the defensive line. Ever since Bryant Young and Marques Douglas left last season we've been terrible against the run. Not to mention our continuing problems rushing the passer. If we somehow did manage to lure Asomugha here I think that he'd probably struggle due to getting no help from the front seven and people would again be complaining about how we wasted money on a good corner. If we fix our defensive problems up front our secondary would look a lot better. It's quite simple.

There's absolutely no way the FO is going to whip up another fat contract for someone who would replace Clements's role.

I'd rather throw a boat of cash at Albert Haynesworth, a defensive lineman who will CONSTANTLY demand a double team and STILL get pressure.
Looks like Parys Haralson is our best pass rusher. I don't really know what Manny Lawson is...

1) You're stretching really hard to find a way to say he's wrong.
2) You're probably still wrong. When Asomugha was learning in Oakland, Harris was absolutely sucking as a NICKEL corner in Washington, so Asomugha was probably better even then. Harris woke up and remembered how to play for Nolan the same time Asomugha was becoming a true force in the league. So if you look at them simultaneous, Nnamdi was probably still always better.

You didn't read the initial statement properly then. I'll do the work for you so you'll understand properly. Here was the statement:
Walt Harris at any point in his career was nowhere close to being nearly as good as Nnamdi Asomugha, sorry. With that said, work on the pass rush before you start overloading an already solid secondary.
That doesn't signify comparing the two players in a simultaneous fashion. In other words I'd say the 2006 Walt Harris was much better than the 2003 or 2004 Asomugha who was getting burned and schooled constantly by the likes of Ashley Lelie, Rod Smith, and even Eddie Kennison.
