If Smith does play, expect him to be fired up. Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall took a shot at Smith this week despite the fact Smith beat him for the decisive touchdown in a 24-6 win last December.
"I didn't think he had much success against me. Period," Hall told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "They weren't trying to go downfield with him at all. They threw a couple little narrow routes. Obviously, he broke that one. Bad tackling. Fluke play. You do it 10 times, I make that play nine times. So besides that one fluke play, the guy didn't have that much success against me."
Smith was quick to respond Wednesday.
"I guess when you're on the top you have a lot of people trying to knock you down," Smith said. "Some people are lower than others on the totem pole by age, performance and talk.
"When you talk, you're obviously insecure about something. You talk long enough, you'll hang yourself."
That competitive streak has led Falcons coach Jim Mora to plan on seeing Smith on the field Sunday.
I always liked DeAngelo, until now.

Panthers: Delhomme expects Smith to play
The News
Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith is listed as questionable on the injury report with a hamstring injury for Sunday's game against the Falcons. However, quarterback Jake Delhomme believes Smith will play. "I kind of know what kind of a guy (Smith) is," Delhomme told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I expect to see him out there on Sunday."
---------------------------------------------
Still... Smith on a pair of bad wheels vs. a full-strength Hall doesn't sound like a favorable matchup, although ATL may feel more comfortable leaving Hall on an island now. It's a tough call.
I HATE GAME TIME DECISIONS!!!!

What he said is true. Up until that play the Panthers were throwing to Smith just to appease him, not even attempting a downfield strike. Even that play was a short pass that DeAngelo jumped for the INT, missed, our safety yet again blows a tackle (probably #148 for them at that point of the season) and caught up to Smith too late.
Besides Steve Smith is really pot calling the kettle black with that quote :falldownlaugh:. This is a man still talking trash to Tyrone Poole 3 years after the SBXXXVIII
P.S. And of course Smith will play.

I think it was Chad saying something like he couldn't cover me in a phone booth, somethin like that.

Steve Smith cannot be comvered by 1 player, Hall should be quiet and the only thing that can slow Smith is his hamstring.
You do realize that the Falcons shut down Smith in 03 and before that TD catch he did absolutely nothing against us. 6 catches 57 yards, wow. Play showed more about the risk of gambling and having a S who couldn't tackle an infant.

Yeah dude, sanjose is right. It was something about, "if me and deangelo were in a phone booth together, he still couldnt touch me". That ***** was hilarious, i think it was your sig.
Good luck with that Deangelo defensive scheme this week:ok: . Niners run the same D, we just dont have anyone chase the receivers.
6 catches 57 yards, wow.
I think most of us would be happy with 6-for-57 from our guys...

Well TO had 7 for 1 billion against Hall and the media tells me he shut him down so 6 for 57 is beeswax :D
But this DeAngelo/Smitty thing IMO is overblown. I think both guys are still good friends and probably called each other up and planned this out (wouldn't doubt it with either one of them). And Hall didn't "call" him out. He said that last season his goal was the Pro-Bowl and although he got there, without playoffs and a SB it just didn't mean as much. After that he said that to get back to the SB he doesn't care if he has to end friendships and if Smitty leaps up to catch a ball he's gonna do his best to stop him, even if it means laying him out middair.
Honestly they can't win anyways. They ate dinner with each other people are like, "OMG NFL PLAYERZ HAV FURENDS!!!!" and now they're back to business, "OMG HALL CALD OUT SMITH!!! SMITH IS LIKE A GAWD!!! PANTHERS 16-0!!!" Ok, maybe not that last part.
Ninerpheen, don't worry the Cover DeAngel-0 will work great. He will shadow Smith (who will play) and the rest of our D will play 10 yards off every down then back up another 10. Even if the Panthers hit us with 10 consecutive hitches we will make sure to stick with the Cover DeAngel-0. He's so fast we can do that.

Well if he does play he won't have that same burst. Strained hamstrings hurt like hell and Wr's have to make cuts and outs.

Steve Smith will put up 178 yards with two scores.
What does it take for CBs to understand that you do not trashtalk Steve Smith?

Directly on point as usual, tarkaba.
I've hated DeAngelo Hall since seeing him yell at a coach on the sideline early in his rookie season. He's an *****, and has proven nothing other than that he's fast with his feet and with his mouth.
I guess someone forgot to tell him that his team LOST the game he's referencing, 24-6. I guess the team outcome is only appropriate when it's convenient (like when he "shut down" TO... PLEASE).
I wish I had Steve Smith on my fantasy team this weekend. Having him last year was downright joyous. That game against the Bears was one of the biggest beatdowns I've ever seen by an individual player in any team sport.

More fuel to the "I hate DeAngelo Hall" fire... this was from Peter King's MMQB on http://www.cnnsi.com/ a little over a week ago...
"I saw DeAngelo Hall haul off and slug a receiver here, then scamper away like a kid on the playground who gets a shot in and then runs behind his bigger buddies."
I really hope Steve Smith plays, and punishes him this weekend.

Call me back when we don't have our starting LCB, RDE, MLB, FS, SS, 2 NBs and RT.

Actually, I was just making it up to bolster my argument. :rolleyes2:
Rookie season, first month or two. Can't remember the game. I watch a lot of games every week (I have Sunday Ticket, this is my 4th season with it) and I'm anything but a Falcons fan, so you could hardly expect me to remember the exact game.
Too bad we don't have the history from the old MB... I posted about it after I saw it. That'd probably narrow down the date.

Never saw that and since DeAngelo didn't play until Week 7 I'm more confident this is bologna :)
we are talking Hall vs. Steve Smith not Steve Smith vs LCB, MLB, FS, SS, 2 NB's, and RT

I could easily have the exact date wrong (regretting trying to recall a specific date right after typing it), but not the player nor the action. I remember it distinctly as the moment when I started to hate DeAngelo Hall.
But believe what you like. You're the Falcons fan, so obviously you're the authority on everything that goes on with Falcons players. :rolleyes2:

good move by deangelo
hammy probably isnt 100% but smith will play and could aggravate it.
But here's why I laugh at a lot of this. DeAngelo made the comment BEFORE Steve Smith reinjured his hamstring. :madgal:
