We really should go after Mays! Look at that hit! Imagine hitting sissy receivers like Boldin, Fitzgerald or Holt like that! Draft that guy! We need someone to teach ***** receivers a lesson, and I think this guy is just the assassin to do it!

Let me change my offseason plans a bit: Sign Suggs and a good ORT, Draft this killer and get Brace in the 2nd.

We need a bona fide knock out artist in our secondary. Get Keith Lewis back at SS, can you imagine how brutal that would be?

So he can get personal fouls for us too? Awesome, we need a few more of those.

To bring up a recently posted item,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac-JYp25Bx0

This was a good hit too. It was also extremely dangerous and very illegal. I don't think there's a place for things like that in Singletary's locker room.

What does that have to do with this thread?

To try and figure out why people get excited about players committing personal fouls, that's all.

1. He will be thrown out of the game by Singletary by that hit since it was a 15 yard penalty...

total crap Mays actually hit his own guy! but seriously that hit didnt deserve a flag

...on another not

I AM TOTALLY SOLD Mays is out guy at 10
i think he leaped Jenkins as best DB available although id love to grab Malcom as well

Yeah, really.

Keith Lewis is a nasty dude! We need some real intimidators in our secondary. We face a lot of passing teams. Get those nasty dudes back there, that would be awesome!

Ask Deion Branch about Keith Lewis! I don't care if you get a 15 yard penalty, lets crush some receivers. That's so hilarious! Ol' T.O. wouldn't be running his mouth if he gets hit like that!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKSXQjGENQk
That video quality is poor, but the hit is memorable.

If you scare receivers, they drop passes and run poor routes. I'm all about hurting receivers.

I think receivers are more intimidated by good coverage than a guy who might hit you once or twice whilst giving up 400 passing yards. Keith Lewis is terrible in coverage, and he has no range.

Haha Belichick is the best coach in football, and he'd love seeing things like that! When you can hit a guy that hard, and probably scare him to the point he doesn't want the ball thrown to him.... that's football! Real Football!

I personally would trade a 15 yard personal foul flag for that hit any day. That's beautiful! Do you guys forget Ronnie Lott? He'd do the same thing!

Guy can hit, plus he's huge at what 6'3'' 240 and runs a 4.28 unofficial. HE IS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED!!!!!! Him with Willis and Clements, we would have a beasty defense.

I don't think 10 is a stretch for him, if he's there we would be fools to pass him up, given OTs are gone.

Bolden would bounce off Mays hits and take it for 6.

Oh and the reason Mays doesn't get thrown at very often, their names are Everson Griffen DE, Brian Cushing OLB, Rey Maualuga ILB, Fili Moala DT. If a QB doesn't have time to throw the deep route (FS responsibility) the ball wont get there.

Mark Roman's problem isn't he is a horrible FS, it's that QB's have all the time in the world to throw the deep route and he's a bad FS, but if we had a decent pass rush then he wouldn't look so bad.

He's also had horrible coverage on 2 of Penn St's TDs now ( including the one just now ) and he tackles with his shoulder and not by wrapping up.

and since USCs so good, he actually kind of wants to stay, but if his coach says he should go, he said he would go.

I don't want him.

He didn't force that fumble, he tackled the guy, and the Rb got hit by the other USC player and dropped the ball.

Mays sucked in coverage and got exposed deep for one TD.

Did Mays do something spectacular after the 3rd quarter? I watched the first 2 and half quarters and all I saw was Mays getting owned trying to tackle the QB from PSU. The guy can hit probably just because he is a freak of an athlete, but he can't tackle well and he has not posted any great numbers in the secondary as a playmaker. IMO, he is as overrated as he gets. Forget Mays and draft Raji. I think he would be better of staying in college for one more year.

Maj thinks he would be a good player at SS, and if he played FS in the NFL, he would be use more in the box, and not be a ballhawk playing centerfield.

That's the reason I posted this, Billy Mays has two commercials running on ESPN a lot currently.

One for ESPN 360, and the other for some fix it thing.

This year's safety class is much better depth wise than it is in top level talent. I'd rather pass on the supposed "top guys" and go for someone in the middle rounds. Although Emannuel Cook coming out is intriguing....hes a playmaker, unlike Mays.

Not only must you know what watch any USC games to make that statement, you obviously don't watch 49er games, either.

A "great pass rush" does not mean that the opposing QB never has time to throw a deep pass. That's one of the most ridiculous myths on here.

No, people who have been watching him for the last 2 years and seeing what a big difference he makes in how teams have to approach USC's defense are saying that.

well according to this logic if Crabtree has 10 catches for 200 yards today, then we should draft him then, right?

i'm hoping that either Mays or Orakpo project to be where one is in the 9-12 range, and the other one is in the 20-23 range.. if that's the case, i'd consider trading up for one of them..

but if we had a choice to get one, i'd go with Mays, and then later draft a guy like Selvie

Not to sound too much like a homer, but I think Clay Matthews will be a solid, not great, but solid, NFL OLB for a 3-4. He has natural pass rush instincts and a motor from hell. I would gladly take him with a 3rd round pick.

*Isn't Selvie a 1st round prospect ? My buddy played against him when he was at Syracuse, said he was nasty... but didn't put his foot down and say that he could picture him being as good in the Pro's, FWIW.

Really? Or was that sarcasm?

The OLD Cookie Monster
01-02-2009, 02:32 PM
No sarcasm.

What did you see that you liked? I glued my eyes on him all game and he actually played pretty bad. On the passes that PSU did complete, at least 3 times when Mays was in coverage deep he arrived just after the ball was caught and was only able to help the CB bring the WR down.

He missed tackles and took some terrible angles on runners resulting in the offense gaining more yards than they should have. He tries to tackle with his shoulders like he's blocking somebody and gets shook off, I did not see him wrap up at all.

The only play that he "made" was a 15 yard penalty that would get him fined in the NFL, and he barely even hit the WR, he hit his own CB with most of the hit.

No thanks on Mays, there is nothing pointing to him being a quality FS.
