If you guys wanna check out some future college football and NFL stars, tune in to NBC right now to check out the Army All American Bowl and at 8pm Sunday night for the ESPN Under Armour All American game.
Big time recruits like Aaron Murray, Garrett Gilbert, Matt Barkley, Bryce Brown, Trent Richardson, Andre Debose, and Patrick Hall will all be in action today and tommorow and a lot of these guys will be committing to their respective schools as well.
Should be really good games this weekend. Hope you guys enjoy them

Are these guys in the army or something?
No, they are the top High School players in the country playing in San Antonio.
The game is sponsored by the Army.
The other game being done by ESPN is sponsored by Under Armour

Adrian, whats up with the Under Armour All American HS game tommorrow played in Florida?
Is it worth going to? Or all the better players playing today? If it is i'll go........its only 15 mins from my house and tickets are only $10.
IMO, the better game is the UA game tommorow.
The QBs are better and the offensive playmakers in the UA game are more intriguing to me than the game being played right now.
The AA game has the better defenders playing while the UA game has the better offensive players.
But both games are featuring future superstars.
Id definitly go if I were you. Should be an awesome game.

Ummm I don't know if you saw the skills competition before the Sugar Bowl last night but his throws were horrendous. Especially the deep ball.
#1 play maker in the nation probably but Barkley is the best QB in the nation.

Depends what you look at. Barkley has more tools than everyone in my opinion but had a pretty poor year (Granted Mater Dei was very inexperienced this year). However at SC he will be put next to numerous play makers rather than what he had at Dei.
If you watched the QBs yesterday you could see Barkley throwing with more accuracy and displaying a much bigger arm than Gilbert.
Both are very good and both deserving of a 5* ranking but it is pretty silly to say Gilbert is leaps and bounds better than Barkley.

Garrett Gilbert makes a lot more plays than Barkley not only with his arm but his legs as well.
Ill always take the bigger playmaker then someone whos a sitting duck with a strong arm.
Gilbert tore Texas apart and set national records. Barkley played poorly throughout the year. 18 ints from the "best" QB in the nation is inexcusable.
UA game at 8 guys..tune in..should be a good one.

I'm watching the UA All Star game right now.
These high school quarterbacks have better mechanics than Alex Smith.
 no kidding!
In the black vs. white ESPN all star game...
Matt Barkley kid looked like an NFL QB. He dropped back and passed a bullet on a quick slant to that 6'6" kid that burnt everybody for a TD.
That's unbelievable.

The Canes are stock piling talent in the recruiting game. If the team doesn't show progress with this amount of talent, Shannon is gone after 2009.

I would have liked Debose in purple and gold but now we have a really good shot to get Rueben Randle.

Yeah but there have been numerous QBs that have set records that haven't been good prospects.
Barkley is an amazing talent, along with Gilbert. I won't disagree with Gilbert's legs.
But I guess I like the pro potential in Barkley. He is a rare talent with the way he has composure in the pocket, his footwork and overall arm strength and accuracy.
Obviously tonight proved what Barkley can do with playmakers and the funny thing is that these all star games a pretty poor barometer of their talent. As you have guys that haven't played center in their lives playing the position and then tackles playing the guard position and receivers that you don't have timing down with. Yet Barkley was still on fire which makes it that much more impressive.

I watched the Army All star game and the kid that really stood out was Brown. I do not think he commited to a school yet, but he was a RB just blazing past everyone and catching the deep ball. Serious speed.

You look at 2002, there was a local kid from Miami-Northwestern by the name of Taurean Charles that had the world on him. Yet Coker let him go to florida.
Well Taurean Charles is an *****, it's understandable why Coker didn't go after him.

Well if Shannon only has a year to make progress, this year's recruiting class won't be doing much of it. They might as well wait until 2010, because I don't see next year's team getting exponentially better (and certainly not due to a handful of true freshmen).

i like barkely better as well. people tend to forget he plays in southern california, half the teams he plays are nationally ranked.
Ignorance rears its ugly head.
Texas HS football>So Cal HS football. they both have elite programs, but Texas has 20 times the depth.
Especially the division Lake Travis came out of. They were also back to back champions with 2 different head coaches.
Barkley had the better game, though, kid was tough.

In the playoffs this year, Gilbert killed everyone with his running, ran for like 14 TDs in 4 games because the holes were too big to pass up.
He is definitley a pass first drop back guy, but he can run the ball if needed.
His teammate, Paden Kelly(OT) will be joining him at Texas, too.
Finally, Texas will have someone behind McCoy who isn't a converted RB/WR pretending to be a QB like Chiles and Harris.
And, in the ARMY game, Whaley had a nice catch and run for a TD, Texas had 7 recruits playing in that game, pretty cool.

I went to the game and it was a nice thing UA puts on for the kids. what an experience they must have had, especially the kids being coached by Marv Levy. But scalped tickets for $5 a piece which was a steal.
It was a fun game with some big hits. I liked how the kids didn't treat it like an exhibition, they came to play.
But as nice as it was to attend live, you tend to get alot more of where the kids are considering when watching at home. And because of that I left at halftime......when Ludacris started playing at halftime I knew it was time to go.
Thanks for going out and supporting the kids, it was kind of sad to see that stadium so empty.

01-05-2009, 10:20 AM
well the stadium was actually pretty full. I dont know the exact capacity of the Citrus Bowl but if I had to guess I bet it fits around 70,000 people. And with that UA closed off half the stadium so you could only sit on the one side. That side that you were able to sit on was very full, I'd say about 20,000 people. Thats pretty good if you ask me for an exhibition game on a late Sunday night where parents and kids had to start back to work/school after the holidays.
But I was happy to support the kids. Not only was it fun to watch but I was happy for the experience of a lifetime they had. It was odd me and my friend were the only ones pounding beers in the parking lot before the game...but thats another story.
Best part, lol.

Wow, after watching the UA game last night, the best player on the field was CB/S Greg Reid from Lowndes, GA.
What an absolute monster he was in the defensive secondary and in the return game. He just decommitted from Florida and is now looking at FSU and Georgia. UF is still in the mix for him as well.
But overall, it was kind of a sloppy game offensively. You really didnt get to see the stud RBs take over. The defenses definitly had the advantage the whole night. It was still an awesome game and some great plays made by everybody on defense and some great throws by the QBs and great catches by the WRs.
I cant wait to see these guys on the field next year. Should be fun to watch

Matt Barkley plays at Mater Dei HS, and my buddy coaches for one of the HS's in their league... said he absolutely put on a show when they played him.
Dude started at QB as a FRESHMAN for Mater Dei... which is absolutely unheard of. I'm glad he chose USC.

Stop it bro. Seriously. Seriously? Have you ever heard of the Pac-5? You pretty much have to be nationally ranked in the top 100 to play in that. Ill give you that Texas as a state takes football way more seriously but come now. Mater Dei played 3 teams in the national top 100 not to mention the Pac-5 Consisted of Mater Dei (133), Lakewood (96) Tesoro (23), Poly (15) and Centennial (6) and that's just in Los Angeles. Dont forget Servite, St. Bonaventure, Notre Dame, Cathedral-San Diego, Mission Viejo, Oceanside, Chapparal, Crespi, Newport Harbor, Rancho Cucamonga and the list goes on...
Texas: 14 nationally ranked top 100 teams
California: 13 nationally ranked top 100 teams
Florida: 9 nationally ranked top 100 teams
Don't even mention that Servite, Mater Dei, Mission Viejo and Tesoro are all within 20 miles of each other....

well in some of the other fans defense alot of people there looked like HS kids around 18. so alot of people there weren't old enough to drink, it was a dad bringing his son, or it was some skanky white chick going to peep the free Ludacris concert at halftime. so with that crowd i definitely smelled some weed going in.
but your right, it was a bit sad. i thought it would be a big party. since i was watching the NFL games on Sunday, I didn't show up to my friends until 7pm. we pounded some beers at his place, put 10 beers in a cooler and left for the game. i know I shouldn't brag about it, but we then cracked a couple of roadies to down while i was driving to the Citrus Bowl. while in the parking lot we both shot-gunned 2 beers. crammed 2 beers in each pocket of our cargo shorts and walked into the stadium. the security didn't even pat us down and we walked in to enjoy the game. the only 2 guys pounding beers and turning the exhibition into a party.
I thought it was legal to drive with an open alcohol container in FL as long as it was the passenger.
That makes sense though, probably mostly a younger crowd mixed in with a bunch of parents... but where I'm from, the parents love getting hammered.

dont even try to argue HS football with JIGGA, most of the country knows Texas HS football is better than SoCal HS football but JIGGA will argue tooth and nail otherwise, why you ask? Because every HS football player sucks(according to him) unless their from Cali, East Coast kids are ALWAYS overrated and every good ball player to come out of Cali, guess what, JIGGA knows them! Also, even if Texas has morenationally ranked teams, which Im sure they do, it doesnt matter, because JIGGA will shoot that down with some excuse. The kid is not only a homer but seems like a BS'er and a "Im never wrong" type of kid. So, long story short, Blue, don't even waste your time.
