Roster Management before going into Free Agency:
re-sign DeShaun Foster to a 1 year deal
re-sign Takeo Spikes to a 2 year deal
re-sign Allen Rossum to another 1 year deal
let Bryant Johnson go
let J.T. O'Sullivan go
let Sean Ryan go
cut Alex Smith and sign him to a cheaper contract
cut Marcus Hudson
cut Tully Banta-Cain
cut Jeff Ulbrich
cut Mark Roman
cut Arnez Battle
Free Agency 2009:
sign OLB Terrell Suggs He is worth the money.
sign OLB Pierre Woods
sign QB Derek Anderson (after Browns release him)
sign LB Brian Iwuh
Draft 2009:
Round 1 - Malcolm Jenkins CB OSU
6'1 201 4.37 (low)
career - 92 tackles 11 INT
Best corner in the draft hands down..and I actually expect him to be the BPA when #10 comes around. He will definitley be the future of our defense and will challenge for the starting position this year.
Round 2 - Ebon Britton OT Arizona
6'6 310 4.98 (low)
Monster tackle who is likely to come out this year. He will take over next year, well, this year, when Jennings gets hurt.
Round 3 - Terrence Taylor NT Michigan
6'0 318 5.08 (low)
career - 79 tackles 13.5 for a loss
Real plugger in the middle. Should transpire into our number 1 guy.
Round 4 - Kevin Barnes CB Maryland
6'1 188 4.39 (low)
career - 99 tackles 6 INT
He played corner in college. Hurt in '08 or he'd most likely be a higher pick. But I think he will be molded into the free safety position. So I have
us drafting him as a safety. I'd like us to try him and Reggie Smith at safety to see who makes the transition better.
Round 5 - Marko Mitchell WR Nevada
6'4 208 4.40 (low)
career - 153 rec 2763 yds 22 tds
Quiet receiver from Nevada. Had 10 TD's this year. I project him as last years Josh Morgan.
Round 6 - Conredge Collins FB Pitt
6'0 232 4.57 (low)
Considered the best blocking back in the draft. He will start immediately. We need him.
The 6-foot, 230-pound bruiser is considered one of the best fullbacks in the nation and, according to ESPN's Mel Kiper, could be the first player at his position picked in the 2009 NFL Draft. ~ ESPN
Round 7 - Clinton McDonald DE Memphis
6'3 285 4.67 (low)
career - 139 tackles 11 sacks
This guy is a 3-4 end. A work out warrior with great numbers.
Roster going into the 2009 Season:
QB: Shaun Hill | Derek Anderson | Alex Smith
HB: Frank Gore | DeShaun Foster | Michael Robinson Thomas Clayton
FB: Conredge Collins
WR: Isaac Bruce | Jason Hill
WR: Josh Morgan | Marko Mitchell | Dominique Zeigler
TE: Vernon Davis | Delanie Walker | Billy Bajema
LT: Joe Staley | Ebon Britton
LG: David Baas | Adam Snyder
C: Eric Heitmann | Cody Wallace
RG: Chilo Rachal | Tony Wragge

ROLB: Terrell Suggs | Pierre Woods
CB: Nate Clements | Shawntae Spencer
CB: Malcolm Jenkins | Tarell Brown
FS: Reggie Smith | Kevin Barnes | Dashon Goldston
SS: Michael Lewis | Keith Lewis
This gives us 3 young QB's for competition.
Still a strong running game.
Our Line will be healthy and good young backups.
Improved D-line.
Improved pass rush.
Barnes and Smith to compete at FS. I believe Barnes will mold to the spot well.
Overall, a young team with great potential.

if we draft taylor mays in the first we can keep walt harris because mays is a ballhawk, why would you cut B.Johnson he was our second leading WR i would give him one more try. I agree with all your ohter cuts but johnson i would keep and smith at safety you don't even know what he has he can't even stay healthy,i would let foster and clayton battle for that second spot and i would bring in another rb to compete with them to M rob is not a RB

any mock with Sopo at NT proves all I need to know about the posters knowledge. and thats not even getting into the fact that Jenkins won't be available, DA would be the best QB we have on the roster, and the draft overall is pretty awful, etc.
Thank you.. been :shoot: everytime i see sopo at NT

1.) Mays is a ballhawk? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
2.) Johnson won't get cut, his contract is up.
3.) Smith can't stay healthy? What? He's been healthy all year.
4.) Clayton is trash. The day he is our 2nd back is the day we are 2-14 again.

I dont dislike Mays, but to say he's a ballhawk is a joke, he has 1...ONE int over the past two seasons. That stat doesnt scream "ballhawk" to me.

That's a bit harsh. I personally like it for the most part. The only thing I don't like is dishing out $70 mil for Suggs.

Just because he doesn't pull in INT's doesn't mean hes not a ball hawk.. look at Polumalu/ Bob Sanders, not a ton of picks but.. those guys lead you to the ball or where it will be.. regardless i don't see that in Mays, i think he a player with great athletic ability who relies on reaction to much and needs to learn how to read and put himself in better positions!

Yea don't want the 70 mill for a single digit sack guy when we got Harlyson pullin down 8 making chump change! and i don't think Suggs would be much of an improvement in run support or coverage..
Sopo is a mess at nose.. doesn't read well from the position and engages with his pads more than his hands.. doesn't draw doubles.. i like the gap penetrating spot hes in now! Much more effective imo

harsh, I was being nice. let me explain:
- Jenkins won't be available.
- thinking Taylor can be a legit NT is somewhat comical, almost as comical as thinking Sopo can do it.
- look at his FS position........Smith and Barnes? Seriously WTF?
- cut and re-sign Alex Smith? The likely chances of that are something close to ZERO!
- Browns have an issue at QB and with a new HC coming in its somewhat doubtful he cuts a guy before he see's what each guy has to give. And even if he does commit to one guy its somewhat unlikely he just cuts a QB. If anything he probably gets traded.
- Jennings is as good as gone already.
- where is Walt Harris in this offseason?
and thats just a few basic problems with this offseason plan.
I can see your reasoning but at this point, no one is really right about anything. For us it is, but the season isn't even over yet. Predicting the draft, though fun, is practically meaningless until at least 2 weeks into FA.
Oh, and as for the "harsh" comment. I think from thrashing so many lately, I think I'm trying to soften up a bit.

so i tried..:banghead:
failed
~I figured Shaun Hill would stay as starter...my opinion is its his spot to lose (my opinion).
~I think we need a play maker so I wouldn't be TOO upset with us dishing out some cash for Suggs
~Jennings will get hurt, I know. I wrote that in the 2nd round of the draft.
~Lastly, I think Jenkins might fall, and I'd love us to get him.
~And I obviously solved NOTHING at NT or FS...I'll work on that..
Oh and Thanks Max_Power for "softening it up a bit"...seriously.

What a stupid arguement - if our coaches deem AB or BJ are not good enough to play against the rest of the NFL for the 9ers, we should expect our defense to be able to handle them when playing the niners. You can run a football team with that philosphy

Aubrayo Franklin is the best DT/N we have on the team. Sop is better suited at DE (3-4) or a 3 tech DT (4-3).
