I know his name has appeared a lot on these boards, but this guy plays with heart, which was shown in his post game interview. Now I am not suggesting that we need to sign this guy, but all I am try to illustrate is that he is a true football player that every team needs. I know it is his 13th year, but with the heart he has, he can go 2 more years and contribute on any team in the NFL

Love Dawkins.

Preemptive strike: We should not pursue him in FA though. He's been on the decline, had a resurgent year this season (a contract year), and is 1 year away from retirement. All signing him does is procrastinate the FS position another year.

Now I am a believer that just because you are a good player does not make you a good coach, but I think if we brought Dawkins in for 1 year, and drafted a FS in rounds 3-5 in the draft, we could be set at the FS position. FS might be the most important position to have awareness and experience. Dawkins brings that in and can share his knowledge with young players that can grow under his wing.. I know that everyone thinks our D is transforming into a poor man's Ravens Defense, but what about a poor man Eagles Defense.

Spikes, Lewis, Dawkins?

Agreed. He's a great player but he's on the decline. I really don't want another band-aid at the free safety position.

I'm a huge fan of Dawkins but agree that he should not be signed by us. Most likely an Eagle for life type of guy. If the Birds win the SB i wouldnt be suprised if he retired.

He's a big reason why I want the Eagles to win the Super Bowl. I want to see this guy get a ring before he retires. Great football player and all-around person.

the niners would be lucky to get dawkins.

13 year vet or a rookie, you need guys like him on your team to be successful.

Is he for sure not going to be an eagle next year?

but there's not really an option that can bring in immediate AND long-term help... A draft pick won't be effective right away, and there aren't really any other Free Agent Free Safetys worth a long term contract.

I would say signing him would be a good option if we also draft his predecessor. That way it would give the Draft Pick 1-2 years to get prepared for the starting gig when Dawkins leaves.

I don't even think of Dawkins as an option. Why would he come here? Money isn't everything. If PHI wins the Super Bowl, i wouldn't be surprised to see him retire. He's been pretty bad in coverage over the last few years, looks a little better this year, but he's not as great as everyone still thinks he is. I like Dawkins a lot, but he's not a good target for us.

That sounds about right. The guy can still hit with the best, but he's lost a step and can get beat deep pretty easily. (Just look at the play that Manning missed deep to Hixon I think it was. Dawkins was supposed to be the help over the top and he was very late getting there. If a better ball had been thrown, Giants would have had an easy 6.)

Dawkins is baller! He's one of a couple Eagles player I like. Westbrook is the obvious other. Except for when they play us. :)
