View Full Version : Kerry Collins: Start me or I'm done

His 14th NFL season in the rearview mirror, Kerry Collins said he has two options -- remain a starter, preferably with the Titans, or retire to a life on the farm. The Titans aren't ready to send the veteran quarterback out to pasture. Coach Jeff Fisher made that clear, setting in motion an important offseason for Collins as well as Vince Young. I made my case known, that I'd like to be here and feel that I can be a part of several more good seasons. I have several good years left in me, I know that," Collins said. "I will pack up and go somewhere else. I don't want to, but that's the reality of this business. -- I am a starter in this league and if nothing materializes that way I will retire.''

Collins is somewhat of a glorified journeyman. Sure he got to the SB with the Giants, but I don't think too many people would say he was huge in taking them there.
I do agree he is a starter though, but the Titans aren't going to get over the hump with him - they have to consider that, and it seems like their window may be closing.

Kerry Collins is better than Vince Young. With Vince Young the Titans will hover at .500 next season.

He is, I'm not disputing that. Just saying the Titans won't get any further with Collins with the current team (and I don't see them making major changes), so its kind of a double whammy.

They can have Alex Smith for Haynesworth, straight up. :pards:

3700 passing yards 22 TDs to 13 ints. He was a major reason why they made it that year.. yes he is a journeyman but he also was a big part of their offense that year and without him they would have been a question mark to make the playoffs even with their good D...

He did do well in the regular season.
He also played well in the NFCCG, but the Vikings' pass D was one of the worst that year. Plus, the Giants D completely shut out, literally and figuratively, the Vikes' O (114 total yards of O in the game). Then we all know what happened in the SB (Collins 4 INT), although it was the Baltimore D. Still, the D carried the team throughout the playoffs to the SB.
I'm basically saying he isn't a QB to get a team completely over the hump when it counts unless he has an absolutely dominant D (a la Dilfer and Baltimore).

Collins is better than VY. VY needs some schooling still.

1st give VY the team and see if he learned from this past yr on the bench...2nd go get another vet via FA or trade and keep VY as the backup...
I would let Simms and Young fight for the starter spot and get a 3rd QB from the draft (mid rounds). I know people are going to come in here and say how Simms sucks (just like i am sure many of the people saying that also said Chad P sucks) but it won't be tough to get the production Collins got. However, the Titans could lose Haynesworth and the DC, so they may feel like they need more points next year. If that is the case, then i think they will try to get a vet QB (not sure who is out there though).

Collins sucks. He will never win them any playoff games. Hopefully they let him walk.

I live in the Nashville area, and the Titans fans out here think Kerry Collins is the best thing since Jesus Christ (and the folks out here in Tennessee love them some Jesus)

They got pretty darn close. If that team stays intact and adds more next season they could very well be world champions.

I agree.
Collins has made a career out of not being as bad as the guy below him, and be lucky enough to have a solid defense and run game carry him. His numbers this season haven't been special.
Let me put this way, he numbers this season are almost identical to Joe Flacco, only Flacco actually has more TDs.
If a team thinks they have a solid D, and great run game, and just need a QB to manage the game for a little while, sure, Collins is better than no one one, but I don't see teams lining up to want Collins to start.

So you're response to my rebuttal of your statement was simply that he played well against everyone except a record setting D. Glad to see you ultimately agree that he was a major reason why they made the playoffs and got to the SB...
