Are we in the infancy of a new Chiefs dynasty?
Scott Pioli is in charge of football operations and the Chiefs are $32 million under the salary cap, they have a new remodeled Arrowhead for 2009, and they have the #3 pick in the draft.
They get 2 automatic wins when they play the Raiders and look at how the Dolphins and Falcons and how they turned it around in one season and their teams were probably worse than the Chiefs.
The Chiefs were competitive for most of the 2008 season and it would be nice to see the Chargers go down since it they always dominate the division and we need a new face in the AFC West.

Chargers are still the team to beat in that division.

would you rather have Pioli or AJ Smith making the football decisions?
Chargers defense and running game will be weaker in 2009.

Maybe in a few years, but I don't expect a turnaround overnight.

They are a very young team that has been rebuilding through the draft. The guys they have there are going to come into their own soon. Now on top of that base you have Scott Pioli who is an awesome talent evaluator and cap manger. I have no doubt he will have an easy time luring top coaching talent over to the Chiefs to coach up those young guys they have.
As weak as the AFC West is, I can see him taking that division by throat and holding it down for a very long time, just like the Pats have done. Shanahan would have been his biggest threat and he is gone now. Or maybe he will resurface in KC? :spy:

Interesting considering that they didn't sweep the Raiders this year..

How are those 2 automatic wins when they didn't even beat the Raiders twice this year?

If I recall, most people said KC had one of the better drafts last April, at least in terms of long term impact.
Now that those guys have had a year of experience, another good draft position coming up, things could happen for the Chiefs.
It may not be over night, but I'd say their a team looking up, while most of their division is looking down.
not as long as Herm is the HC.
Word on the street is that his fate is already sealed. He won't be the head coach of the Chiefs anymore.
