The Washington Redskins released veteran CB Shawn Springs on Friday. The move was expected since they re-signed CB DeAngelo Hall to a six-year, $54 million deal earlier in the day.

I don't think anybody really cares about Springs one way or the other around here, but an interesting rumor floating around right now:

He could very well sign in Philadelphia, followed by the Eagles trying to trade Sheldon Brown and a pick for Boldin.

Didn't you advocate that Springs was pretty much done and needed to be let go?

In any case, I think Philadelphia could win either way if they decide to stick with Sheldon Brown (who is a very underrated corner) or try to make a run at Anquan Boldin by trading him and a draft selection.

Yes, I'm not a Springs fan at this point. He can still be solid when he's healthy, but that's for maybe 10 games out of the whole season and he thinks he's worth a lot more money than he really is.

I think he could be decent for a team as a FS and occasional CB that can rotate in and out semi-frequently though.

The rumor about him and the Eagles and their trade plans comes from a guy on the Redskins board who's posted a couple rumors before from Philly, he said Philly was very much considering letting Dawkins go as soon as the season was over and people kind of laughed him off, but look how that turned out. Now Sirius radio is reporting that the Eagles may be interested in obtaining Boldin somehow via trade.

Brown's an excellent corner, so I'd be fine with them getting rid of him and getting Springs in his place. Wouldn't be so fine with facing Boldin twice a year and what he'd bring to Philly's offense though.
